It’s nonetheless admirably written, and reliably sophisticated comedy.

The premiere not only hits familiar beats but also resolves them in predictable ways. What the show does have, however, are solid lead performers in Nat Faxon and, particularly, Judy Greer. [10/17 Jul 2015, p.103]

What saves the show is that even when the humor doesn’t quite land--usually because it gets trapped in the tortured egos of the protagonists--the story of these flawed people attempting to be better is engaging.

I wanted to like this show when it premiered last summer. I like Nat Faxon and Judy Greer, and I think there is the possibility of a fascinating comedy here. The first season was often too disjointed and made the characters too unlikeable. The first episode of the second season felt like a mild improvement, but there is still work to be done here.
