This Hulu show consists of twelve horror films per season (so far). The installments come once a month and each are influenced often very loosely by a holiday. (They had to reach for some months. August was the end of school and September was Daughters Day. Still not sure what March was supposed to be.) This is basically a not-quite-ready-for-primetime-players equivalent of a horror anthology and the quality matches that. The series mostly ranges from okay to bad. I wouldn't even call the best episodes must-see TV. The show suffers from two primary weaknesses: 1) The length. Each episode is approximately an hour and a half when they really should be an hour or just a half. A lot of the titles have concepts that don't justify the run-time. Things get stretched out and kind of dull. 2) Not enough actual horror. The majority of these are character pieces or focus on social subjects. Not that there aren't any good horror films out there that focus on a character's psychology or looking at a topical issue, but a lot of the writers/directors are far more interested in these subjects than actual scares. A lot of the villains are human so don't expect to encounter a lot of monsters if that's your thing. The show can also often feel a bit claustrophobic due to either limited settings or lack of extras. To it's credit, the casting is pretty good all around including some recognizable TV faces. I can't recommend this. Getting through all of this was a bit of a chore for me. The only reason I stayed through the entire season was because the weaker ones didn't hit until a few episodes in and I felt I had put enough time in that I should keep going. Unless there's word of a sudden increase in quality, I won't be returning for the confirmed season 2. I just can't go through that again.

I decided to give this show a try. Tom Bateman's performance as the hitman was alright. Nothing to write home about though. It was nice to see Ray Santiago (from Ash vs. Evil dead) in the show. He provided a couple of chuckles. Some dark humor was showcased as Wilkes is dragging a body with him on Halloween night and people thought it was part of his costume or gimmick. However there was one death scene (which I won't spoil) that is physically impossible. Unless a physics major can prove me wrong my thought was 'Did that just really happen'? That scene pretty much did it for me. I suffered through the rest of the show all the way to the "surprise" ending which was no surprise at all. I'll give the second episode a chance but if it pulls anything like this one did I'm done.
