There's truly never a dull moment in the first four episodes of Dexter: Resurrection. The multifaceted story is endlessly compelling, the various supporting cast members are exceptional in highly dynamic roles, and the sharp editing and great soundtrack create a snappy, immersive rhythm.
The first four episodes crackle with old Dexter fun, delivering a smorgasbord of fresh killers, cops, and crucibles for the former Bay Harbor Butcher to navigate (all while Harrison's fledging butchering is in dire need of some patience and finesse.)
Dexter is back! Feels like the best seasons of Dexter. Every episode after the first two is packed with twists and great action. Great characters, acting, writing. Happy about the season, looking forward for the next!
This was incredible — honestly, one of the best experiences I've ever had with a series. In my opinion, it's even better than the original Dexter series. These so-called "professionals" or critics clearly don’t know what they’re talking about.
The sheer quality of the acting alone makes this a masterpiece. Every character brought depth and authenticity that you rarely see in television. On top of that, the character development and action were executed perfectly, creating a story that’s impossible to rate poorly — unless someone has a personal vendetta against the actors or the production team.
For the many, many viewers burned by the original series who weren't motivated to tune in to New Blood, this won't be a must-watch. But there's a lightness and a familiar dark humor in this iteration that brought me back to the old days of watching the show, before everything got so heavy.
The new setting, the old humor, the new killers (who are just goofy enough to evoke the excellent killers of old) — are enough of a hook to reward anyone still eager to engage with their favorite aughts era mass murderer. It may not be enough to sustain an ongoing series, but Dexter’s new lease on life may actually be worth waking the dead.
The viewer must wade through tedious stock characters, some alarmingly hammy acting and a script that assumes we are all staring at our phones as we watch. Do that, however, and you’re rewarded with Dexter’s trademark breezy, jet-black wit and a crime procedural all of its own. It’s like CSI: Patrick Bateman.
“Dexter: Resurrection” proves most interesting when Dexter meets an elite collective of serial killers who convene at the home of a wealthy admirer (Peter Dinklage, “Game of Thrones”) and his henchwoman/enforcer (Uma Thurman). It’s the only element of this season that feels like new, semi-unexplored terrain.
Whatever hints of freshness there are to “Resurrection,” they’re overpowered by the inescapable stench of the old. Per the title, “Resurrection” is an attempt to bring Dexter, and “Dexter,” back to life. It makes a better case the character’s better off where he was.
Amazing season... weird reviews from the "professionals" honestly it's like they thought it would be a flop and got it wrong Like always listen to the critics or check any other site that is note metacritic it's sitting at 90/100 everywhere except here
At launch this seemed to be getting really good scores, so being an OG Dexter fan I gave it a try. The first episode was pretty crummy with the mostly dreadful exposition, and tbh I havent got any motivation to try more.
In all honesty, I only watched 10 minutes of the first episode.
After 9 minutes, the first gay couple was pushed in the story for no reason so it was enough for me.
Don't be fooled by the fake reviews, this is political/social programming and extremely low quality TV. Almost all the positive reviews are fake AI bot reviews and they paid off the critics to get a 10/10 Rotten tomatoes rating. Social manipulation like this should be illegal. Within just a few episodes, they try to control your views on so many different 'social issues'. Illegal immigrant driver nearly gets killed and has a dashboard video of it, but the theme is it's okay he didn't report it to the police because THEY might get deported. Don't worry about another person dying, you might get booted back to Africa! Let em die! And they do these types of scenes in groups so there is a subconscious 'majority votes' feeling to it. Nah, I want illegals out EXACTLY because of stuff like this. They play loud 'boomer' music, from the 70-90's to trick stoned fat and short guys into thinking they are having fun, like dizzy toddlers. Every episode has like 4-6 songs and boring montages wasting screentime in the most obvious way to run out the clock. Filmmakers and directors nowadays know that their main audience is boomers and the new breed of low attention span social media addicts. It has been studied that the new generation of teens and adults literally have a 1.2 second attention span, so there are no longer slow and suspenseful scenes in TV and movies which require higher intellect to digest. Other than that, the entire series makes no sense at all. Dexter dodges Batista by literally running out, a few scenes later he has a new state ID and an easily findable truck and apartment in his name. Dexter isn't even being sloppy, he's being stupid. He's on camera all over the hotel when there is a 'smart detective' checking all the cameras. The drink drugging scene is also completely stupid, the bar wasn't even that packed, and it's a nice hotel. At least 1 person, especially the bartender who probably gets massive tips at a luxury hotel, would be keeping his eye on a wealthy man showing off for a pretty girl. If that's her first drink, she literally just got to the bar with that guy. The whole series is just absolutely horrible. Every single female character, even the single middle aged latina mother, is displayed a a 'girl boss'. Uma Therman as a thuglord is some of the worst casting I've ever seen. If you are a complete idiot, you might enjoy this series.
