Detroiters isn’t looking to shock viewers, or deliver any big social satire about life in the Motor City. It just wants to invite them into its tree fort, pull up the ladder, and tell a bunch of weird, delightful jokes.

A rare new sitcom with as much heart and soul as jokes and wackiness, Detroiters is a welcome surprise premiering on Comedy Central Tuesday night.

This is a great show, and I believe it will grow in popularity. Tim Robinson and Sam Richardson have great chemistry that will leave you in stitches. The show had me hooked from the very start, but it may take a few episodes to really grow on others. It is unique, and hopefully, season 2 is as enjoyable as the first.

This show is off the hook. Humor comes from all sorts of unexpected angles. Episode three ("Sam The Man") had us rolling on the floor. It's the best thing since Broad City. Please don't cancel it.

What sells the antics is the chemistry between its leads and the fun they’re so clearly having together.

The premiere is the strongest, largely because Sudeikis is the perfect serious foil to Richardson and Robinson. (Sudeikis isn’t a regular cast member, but according to press materials, he will reprise his role as the Chrysler rep.) Without him, the show is a weirder journey, one that de-emphasizes story for the more elusive quality of atmosphere. But it’s a bizarre, rollicking joy to watch.

Robinson is solid and Richardson continues to be one of television's funniest actors, but we're just not buying what Detroiters is selling. [Feb 3/10 2017, p.102]

This show is very funny and has a super carefree attitude characterized by show-runners Tim Robinson and Sam Richardson's comedic stylings. Watching their terrible ads is hilarious.

Knowing Sam Richardson (one of the best and breakout supporting roles on Veep) and ex-SNL'er Tim Robinson are from Detroit and have known each other for years adds to the enjoyment of this low key comedy. And it's nice that Detroit is just the backdrop, not a "third character" or comment on urban decay, or whatever. It's just two best friends trying to make a buck in low level advertising in Detroit. Even if you don't know their actual back story, their chemistry and timing come through. The Detroit details (Faygo red pop, newscaster Mort Crim giving weird newscasts, Stroh's Ice Cream, etc.) are charming, and a nice nod to these actors hometown.

I think I found the problem with this show: It's not funny. It's just stupid. Watched well into the second episode when I mercifully pulled the plug so I could concentrate on clipping my toenails. Not an ounce of subtlety or intelligence. A more apt title would be, "The Two Stooges."
