Good show. The creatures are great characters with interesting backstories but the story around them is not great and a bit generic.

First of all, Creature Commandos has the best soundtrack intro ever in the whole history of animation in tv series; the comparison is like the "game os thrones" intro—you never skip it. After watching all episodes, my overall impression is good enough. The Series despite having one season with few chapters, is worthy. I strongly recommend it because it has a well-constructed plot and characters.

## Creature Commandos: The GOAT’s Crown Jewel From the very first frame of **Creature Commandos**, it’s clear that this is a project born out of the unshakable genius of James Jimmy Francis Gunn. His fingerprints are everywhere—the quirky character choices, the balance of absurd humor with genuine heartbreak, and the fearless ability to take something bizarre on paper and make it feel *alive, real, and deeply human*. ### A Universe Only He Could Build Instead of following predictable formulas, James lays out a universe that feels vast and intricate yet instantly personal. The show doesn’t just introduce monsters—it establishes a foundation for DC’s future that breathes with energy, wit, and emotional depth. This is not world-building for the sake of spectacle; it’s world-building with soul. ### Monsters With Heart What could’ve been a lineup of one-note freaks turns into a layered ensemble of outcasts you can’t help but root for. Frankenstein, his Bride, G.I. Robot, Dr. Phosphorus—under James’s pen, every one of them pulses with history, trauma, humor, and longing. You laugh with them, ache for them, and sometimes even fear them—but above all, you *care*. That’s the Gunn magic: the ability to make the strangest misfits resonate with your own heart. ### Visual Poetry in Motion Even in animation, his cinematic eye shines. Every scene carries his trademark comic-book energy—bold angles, striking colors, kinetic action. It feels like watching a graphic novel leap off the page, alive with rhythm and unpredictability. ### Voicework and Writing That Crackle The dialogue is whip-smart, playful, and emotionally sharp. Performances soar because James writes characters who sound distinct, real, and unforgettable. One moment you’re laughing at an absurd one-liner, the next you’re stunned by an intimate confession that hits way harder than expected. It’s a tonal balance only he knows how to conduct. ### Humor, Heart, and Rage—All at Once What makes this series extraordinary is the emotional symphony James conducts: * It’s hilarious without ever being hollow. * It’s violent and wild without losing tenderness. * It’s tragic without wallowing in despair. He threads all those tones together into something utterly unique—a monster story that is also a love story, a comedy, and a tragedy. ### Critical Love Critics everywhere echo the same truth: this show *is James Gunn distilled*. With a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes and praise for its kooky humor, lovable characters, and bold heart, it’s been hailed as the most exciting DC project in years. And all of that is thanks to his singular vision. --- ## Final Word **Creature Commandos** is more than a series—it’s a declaration of what storytelling can be when guided by fearless creativity. James Jimmy Francis Gunn doesn’t just write shows; he crafts emotional worlds where misfits shine brighter than any traditional hero. This isn’t just the start of the DCU—it’s the *perfect* start, because it’s his. Every laugh, every tear, every frame screams with the brilliance of the GOAT. And if this is just chapter one, the future he’s building is destined to be legendary.

DCU really kicks off with monsters. Funny, hilarious and horror. Absolute show.

Honestly didn’t expect much, but this show rules. The characters are weird in the best way, the writing’s sharp, and it actually has heart beneath all the gore. Classic James Gunn energy fun, violent, and surprisingly emotional. Definitely worth watching if you’re into offbeat superhero stuff and the guy Rick Flag SR carries the show like peak

I’m a big fan of this show. The plot itself is pretty good and the twists and turns are unpredictable. This was a great pick to restart the DC cinematic universe

The best animated Comic book series ever if it has more seasons it would be greater than invincible and the animation and the story line is absolute masterpiece

Great idea, nice animation, awful plot armor for so many characters, infantile use of powers that follow no logic from one episode to the next, contrived teleport of characters constantly... I loved The Suicide Squad, I loved Peacemaker, I loved the first act of Guardians 3, but it has never been more apparent that Mr. Gunn is a one-trick wonder and is unable to write anything different from his common and repetitive tropes. Which I would have been fine with this time around as well, but the writing was soooooooooo awful that the endearing tragic stories of some characters cannot save this mess of a show with no story whatsoever.

I enjoyed watching this alot. I loved the unrestrained violence and backstories of the Characters. The overall series plot felt forgettable but interesting enough not to detract from the fun of introducing the characters to the audience. No it isn't a perfect show. Not as well written as invincible or as impactful as the classic 90s DC cartoons. The art style of its world feels very safe with only a few steps outside of contemporary modern settings and technologies for the most part. So nothing too special there. If you're a fan of the genre or the animated medium (or ideally both!) then this short 7 episode saga will entertain you.

Creature Commandos kicks off the DCU with a fun but familiar adventure in animation. It is a very adult series, with graphic violence and adult situations abound. The animation looks great while the voice cast shines with no one feeling out of place (even with the over the top accents). The only issues we found came from the very short run (seven, 22-26 minute episodes) that left us really wanting it to be longer. There will also be some that may not be able to get past the fact that it’s basically Suicide Squad 2.0, but the monsters add an interesting twist to the formula and the tragic backstories to these characters helps carry the emotional weight. Overall, Creature Commandos is a fun first entry into the new DCU and although it does follow the Suicide Squad formula pretty closely, it does just enough to set itself apart. We look forward to more in season 2. Brad: 7

Yes, the episodes are too short and the main story is not as engaging as the subplots of every character, but I think this is a solid start for the DCU. James Gunn has turned another group of unknown characters into a very likable team of misfits.

It’s a great show, each episode takes time to introduce you to one character at a time while still holding firm to the overarching story, it is the new start of the DCU cannon and it is a fun time to watch it’s funny at times it has good humor points it has a good amount of violence but it does not shy away from anything even the more disturbing parts of these characters backstories and each backstory gives you more insight and even care for the characters you see, an amazing start to hopefully a great new DCU

Average at best, although I'm struggling to think of a positive other than the animation looks nice, I guess. As a big DC fan myself, these are still pretty obscure characters and I don't really care about any of them. The story doesn't even really start to form until episode 4 and the tone is often unfunny and cringy with tons of extreme violence (which I'm fine with but it's an odd mix). As much as I want to like it, Creature Commandos does little to command my attention.

James Gunn is not a good director and he needs allot of work from making sure the story has acts of change with the characters and stop copying the guardians on every project.

James Gunn's Creature Commandos stumbles in establishing his DC Studios universe, offering more of the same rather than something fresh. Instead of highlighting iconic DC characters, it focuses on obscure antiheroes in a seven-episode animated series that mirrors Gunn's earlier works, like The Suicide Squad. Filled with weak one-liners and excessive violence, it feels like a retread of familiar **** confusing continuity and inconsistent character details undermine its claim as the start of a new era. For casual viewers, it might come across as a second-rate Doom Patrol or an unnecessary sequel to Peacemaker, casting doubt on Gunn's ability to deliver something truly innovative

Great so far! These sort of projects are within james gunns wheel house and each episode seems to get better. I'm really intrigued to see episodes 4 and 5 as I heard from critics that they are the best in the series!

If you like james gunns previous work than your going to love this one. The animation is pretty good (same company that did invincible) the voice acting is pretty good and the story seems to succeed with character driven background stories. Onto the next episode.

James has a knack for making you fall in love with obscure characters and he masterfully does this again here. My only complaint here is how short it is.

Idk - the story is practically nonexistent, the enemies are inc3ls (I guess?) and don’t pose any threat whatsoever… the main characters are annoying. Gogol Bordello is awesome and it fits the theme, but overusing their songs is annoying… As a comic book it would have been ok as a one off, but as a show I’m not enjoying it so far.

After ripping through the first 2 episodes I am intrigued on what is to come. They made the characters likable. Good humor. Good action. Some hornyness. I think the animation was really good. I think it’s unfair to say this is the start of the DCU. It’s more of the first show that they’re releasing because it’s easy and animated. Of course Superman will be the true start to the DCU. This is cool content. I am in.

Those first two episodes were not great. They weren't terrible, but not great. I wouldn't even say they were good. More like ok. For perspective, I don't think those first two episodes are better than the first two episodes of Young Justice, Justice League, Invincible, etc. I could go on but I hope this is sufficient. These are all animated super hero shows that had a way better start. Initial reactions seem to be overwhelming positive and I just don't see why. Personally I felt the music was horrible, the voice acting was meh, Alan Tudyk was a standout, and there was no plot hook. It just seems like some random first mission we are thrown into about characters we don't care about. They all seem to be potentially interesting but after the first two episodes I'm barely more interested than I was with the premise of the show before seeing it.

After seeing the first two epsisodes, i think it's early to give a final score to the show. So far it's not bad, but it's nothing out of the ordinary. It's got a lot of potential to gives us a fun show, some of the characters like GI Robot, Rick Flag and the Dog character (don't remember the name) are very likeable. Let's see what the next episodes bring.

After watching the first two episodes, I got to say that I have enjoyed the show so far. The animation itself is pretty good and gunn once again seems to excel when it comes to telling stories that are character driven. One minor criticism would be the humor but other than that the show is good so far and I will continue watching.

With the exception of Fleg and G.I. Robot, who are likable characters, everything else is, to put it mildly, debatable There is no scene that is not stupid. And Pokolistan? With a rich Balkan history, that's the best Gunn could come up with? Gimme a break The mockery of the Habsburgs is on point, the characters are not at all like in the comics, and the hypocrisy shown with the apocalyptic depiction of the future and Christian symbolism is evident. Knightmare copy/paste - only with Gun's seal. They literally confirmed everything Snyder fans have been saying for years. Generic plot, generic ideas, classic James Gunn and GotG filter over everything he does in the field of cbm. Not that I expected much from the man, or from a studio that insists on its own personal mcu2, but this is disappointing. The expected cringe-fest to say the least.

Tried way too hard to be different, to be cool and serious. I know there's some people who liked this show and that's fine, but I think most people will find it just another average show, I do see reviews are slowly averaging out too. I think the stories and characters are meh, and don't stand out or work together enough to be interesting.

This animation is another James Gunn Guardians of the Galaxy, it fails to adopt a new approach and does the same trick in the previous films!

Creature Commandos is a fabolous start to this universe. It does an excellent job of showing the expanse of this world, doesn't waste any time with exposition and gets right into it. The animation is amazing and the fights have been choreographed very well. Waiting for the emotional beats to drop in what's coming next

DC Studios Is Back. DCU first show is a hit. great pacing. great story. good back story on the Bride character. this is just a small taste what James Gunn will bring to the DCU.
