Britannia

At times it tries too hard to be edgy and there are too many narrative threads to keep track of. But for all its missteps, it achieves what many historical series fail at – it’s rollicking good fun.

Series two is even more batshit crazy. It is totally off its head. It is also camp, ironic and funny.

The longer you stick with this nine-episode season, the more the players reveal themselves. It’s a big part of how Britannia,”written and co-created by Jez Butterworth (“Black Mass,” “Edge of Tomorrow”), transcends its genre roots.

The first five of the nine episodes provided for review also have echoes of “Spartacus,” and “Rome” slopped with a sauce of graphic novel-style drama. That’s not the worst a person can say about a series.

Britannia doesn’t slow down long enough to be as engaging as the HBO show, but ultimately, it has enough going for it that if you like such fare--not everyone is a “GOT” fan--you can get into the Amazon show.

The modernisms are amusing, and they invite us to take Britannia as a sendup--but then the series doesn’t commit to that approach, as it lapses back into straight-up battle drama. It’s trashy, but, perhaps, not trashy enough.

I love this weird bloody drama that twists and turns whatever historical accuracy it want. Great cast, character, cinematography and soundtrack. It both pleases and teases and makes fun of itself. I can't get enough. Probably not everybody's cup of tea though.

Season 3 is what happens when the writers and producers either get bored or run out of money. They took two and half seasons of build-up and in one episode they decide to tie everything off with a sloppy, meaningless ending. Very disappointed. If you haven't seen any of it, you should watch seasons 1 and 2 and then just imagine your own ending for season 3, you'll be less disappointed.

Stopped watching, couse i couldn't stand rock music for medieval times. What a BS
