A good true crime dramatization about Australian wellness influencer Belle Gibson, who fooled the world into believing she not only had terminal brain cancer but was curing herself with self-care and other holistic techniques. The miniseries is a scathing look at the effects of social media on the health and wellness industry as it reminds us not to believe everything we see and read on the internet as fact and truth. It also offers us the perspective of the effects of such lies on one's mind, body, and spirit, in addition to those believing the lies. Where ACV shines is in Dever's performance as a young woman who didn't get any attunement or attachment from her mother as a child and, as a result, was always overlooked, pushed aside, and made to feel insignificant. As she grew up, her cravings for attention, sympathy, and power became a three-headed hydra she couldn't control. Its non sequitur storytelling technique feels rather crammed into our main plot, so be prepared to jump around a lot, which could be confusing for some. Don't expect it to unfold in any sort of familiar true crime fashion, because it doesn't. But if you're a true crime fan, it's worth the watch.
