German director Roland Emmerich's action sequences are terrific and funny. [10 July 1992, p.37]

By its own deliriously rock-bottom standards, "Universal" ain't half bad. Of course, you have to be big on bloody slaughter, kickboxing, infrared gunning and impaired acting. But "Universal" executes its subtle-free mission with surprisingly watchable efficiency.

Estupidamente subestimado pela crítica.Excelente história ok é quase a mesma do Exterminador do futuro mas é quase é diferente. E Brilhantemente executado.

It's the kind of movie that crumbles into trash -- non-recyclable -- if you spend more than 10 minutes thinking about it. It's designed for dumb fun, and delivers some. [10 July 1992, p.D3]

Viewers primed for a postapocalyptic blowout will be disappointed to learn that Universal Soldier is set in the boring old present day, and that until the climactic clash the film is slow-moving and short on firepower.

As the robotic duo, Lundgren and Van Damme have found roles tailored to their acting abilities.

This is summer entertainment at its mindless, violent worst featuring plenty of squishy, crunchy sounds and sickening makeup X effects to satisfy undiscerning blood-and-guts audiences. Moviegoers looking for pacing, character development or delightful thrills must seek shelter elsewhere. [11 July 1992, p.3D]

Mr. Lundgren, who glowers his way all too convincingly through the role of a rabid bully, may well be the only man in the universe who can make Mr. Van Damme look like an actor.

Vaya vaya, que tenemos aquí. Buena película, por momentos me hacía recordar a Terminator, pero nada que ver. Tiene un comienzo distinto a las de las típicas películas de acción de Van Damme y Lundgren. <3

A true 90's action sci fi film which is up there with The Matrix & T2: Judgment Day, Well not as good as those films but still a fun action packed adventure with bad ass super soldiers with guns and explosions.

On the one side the basic idea of the movie is not bad and some of the action scenes are looking great. But the story and especially the actors are not good, even the fighting scenes are looking so artificial. Van Damme can convince sometimes and you can get pity for his character. Lundgren is just a bad actor.

Typical lunkheaded Roland Emmerich/Dean Devlin stupidity. Dolph Lundgren is such a bad actor that you can't take his supposedly psychotic solider seriously for a second.
