The evidence is inconclusive, and by the final credits we’re back where we started – confused about Smollett’s guilt or innocence, but aware that somebody on camera has to be lying through their teeth.

That this punctuation is, frankly, a little clumsy is also a key part of the experience of this doc, which gathers plenty of raw reporting, but assembles it into a story only as best it can, ultimately undone by the challenges its particular story presents.

This documentary is anchored by an interview with the eponymous actor, who continues his claim that he was beaten by 2 white men. His case went in different directions with additional revelations, all of which are discussed by the investigators and others involved with Smollett. Ultimately, new information is disclosed that seems to reinforce his innocence. The doc is shot in traditional style with numerous interviews and media clips. It builds a compelling story and ultimately, places that question mark in the title for the viewer to decide.

No f-ing way. This guy is a race-baiting ahole looking to cash in on woke and get himself some publicity during his salary negotiations. I'm so glad it blew up in his face and he lost it all. Here he is with his hand out, again, trying to capitalize on his crimes. How he got out of jail is beyond me and just proves his claims of racism are bs, as everyone with eyes figured out quickly. But hey, Netflix saw an opportunity to cash in on it so here we are.
