The premise of writer Natalie Krinsky’s directorial debut sounds cheesy, and it is, but watching the brooding Nick softening to putty in our goofball heroine’s presence while she remains sparkily oblivious is an earnest pleasure.

Geraldine Viswanathan, fresh off her scene-stealing turn as the intrepid high school newspaper reporter in “Bad Education,” gives a knockout performance.

A tart, eager-to-please screenplay by first-time director Natalie Krinsky and a cast skilled at verbal badminton hook a viewer from the start, and “Gallery” especially stands as a welcome showcase for Geraldine Viswanathan.

But viewed from another, more cynical angle, The Broken Hearts Gallery reveals itself as just another lightweight Saturday-night diversion – zippy and heartfelt, certainly, but hardly reinventing or even seasonally rotating the rom-com wheel.

For a film about heartbreak, The Broken Hearts Gallery is a bit too glossy for its own good.

Even if it plays like a sitcom pilot that might get picked up after a little recasting, “Broken Hearts Gallery” is never unpleasant and only rarely a drag. In rom-com starved Hollywood, call that a “win” and call it a day.

The route of the film, like Lucy’s drive home, is preordained — a Google Maps version of a plot, with absolutely no surprises.

The Broken Hearts Gallery is the first film to be directed by Natalie Krinsky and is about a girls named Lucy Gulliver, played by Geraldine Viswanathan, who collects stuff from her past breakups and one day after she goes through another breakup decides to open up a gallery where people can come and drop off items from a past breakup. This film is okay for the most part. The acting is pretty good especially Geraldine Viswanathan who brings a great amount of energy and charisma to the role of Lucy. The jokes can be hit or miss at times but for the most part the film is pretty funny. However this film does have big problem with its writing in the that it is just cliche. I literally was able guess what was going happen with in the first few minutes of the film. I know that there isn't much that hasn't been done in a romantic comedy but you still need find something unique to give your story weight as it is I could just put on any romance film and get a similar feeling that I get in this film. In conclusion Like I said earlier this film does have good acting and good jokes that make it worth the watch just don't expect anything new here.

More honest than your usual rom-com, but can't help but make the same mistakes they usually make and that's not necessarily the writers' fault, because frankly I doubt they can already find anything that can be felt or considered groundbreaking in this genre. So what remains for them is to create characters that feel more natural or at least more genuine and that luckily their actors will manage to sell it to you. And I have to say that here they do it to a certain extent but you will hardly find something worth taking with you when it ends and that's always an excellent indicator in these kinds of films.

Extremly obvious and unrealistic, not to mention that the main chracters have 0 chemistry, so it just seemed forced. Could've been a good movie...

Recommended for those who want to wait in vain for some non-cheesy and frivolous sign of comedy or romance. Geraldine Viswanathan has a sex appeal similar to what Drew Barrymore had: incomprehensible. Better to rewatch "About Last Night..." with Rob Lowe and Demi Moore (Zwick 1986).
