The Breadwinner

Written by Bargatze with Dan Lagana and directed by Eric Appel (of “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”), “The Breadwinner” will be familiar to anyone who’s heard of the 1983 film “Mr. Mom,” but the accents are very 21st century.

Perhaps predictably, the cast’s strongest chemistry has little to do with the nuclear Wilcox clan. Bargatze comes more alive opposite his fellow comedians, who, appearing in various supporting roles, seem to understand the unusual frequency Appel is chasing better than the film’s star himself.

Bargatze’s first effort as a leading man, it seems, is yet another reminder that even the country’s biggest performers might not be able to make a comedy into a theatrical hit anymore. The Breadwinner is admittedly not very good.

Unfortunately, the biggest product this movie is selling is the outdated notion that fathers are so incompetent that they don’t know where their own kids go to school, or how to make toast, or how to do the laundry.

And like Bargatze, The Breadwinner is relatable, inoffensive and also thoroughly bland.

The Breadwinner is downright embarassing, and not in a funny way. Not that it should end Bargatze’s career. Well, maybe the movie career.

These sorts of movies do more damage to the culture than any bloody horror flick you can name, because they make the unforgivable adorable.

Finally, a clean family movie you’re not embarrassed to take your kids to. My adult son and I laughed out loud for 90 minutes! Comedy does not have to be raunchy and full of swearing. We loved it.

Adorable, fun, funny movie. We laughed out loud constantly and loved all of the characters!

Weaponized male incompetence final boss. Most unbelievable parts were all the shots off the Titans stadium that made it seem full of all Titans fans.

Take every inept dad trope you can think of, add 10 more, and you have "The Breadwinner." For those older than 40, this should have been "Straight To Video." Wholesome is one thing. Being beaten over the head with uninspired pandering is another. A cringe-a-minute embarrassment for everyone involved. It is impossible to feel bad for any of these actors, as anyone who read the script and still agreed to take part in this movie should absolutely be the target of well-deserved ridicule.

Weaponized Incompetence is neither cute, nor **** wonder it's all men in these comments giving raving reviews, thinking that this is SOOOOOoooooo hilarious. What a crock of dung.
