A beautiful, at times poetic exercise in excess from Brian De Palma.

Perfomances are excellent, and despite its moralistic conclusion, the film has since become de rigueur viewing for crack barons, who know a good shoot-em-up when they see one.

"Scarface" (1983) is one of the most unique films ever made. It is a very distinguished film. From a color pallet, to an absolutely unique score by Giorgio Moroder, to an epic and at the same time intimate cinematography, "Scarface" is just a film like no other, and in a good way. If there ever was a film were a central character is as integral to film as it can be - it is Tony Montana. Tony is "Scarface". And Al Pacino is Tony Montana. One can not co-exist without another. As over the top as it is, Pacino has created one of the most unforgettable characters here. His eccentric, highly intense and over the top (in a good way) performance is what cements this film together. Supporting actors all did a great job, but its Pacino's film. All this of course wouldn't be as what it is without Brian De Palma.
Overall, i have seen "Scarface" around 10 times in my life, and i will return to it one day again, I'm sure of it. What I'm getting from "Scarface" with each view is a unique film that is highly distinguished from all other gangster movies. Over the top, yet highly entertaining, "Scarface" is truly a great movie on its own.

The Dramatic aspects are lacking but overall Scarface is meant to entertain like any viable film. The direction is heavy handed at times, jumping between a firework Rambo spectacle to a much more laid back tone; that of which is comparable to Francis Ford Coppola.

Nothing more that mountains of cocaine, and never-ending violence. Scarface has absolutely no storyline. It is true that hollywood only makes movies with action, that have absolutely no meaning these days.
