All of the personages in this slight movie are relatively one-note. It’s a shame that actors as searching and scrupulous as Strathairn and Keener are so ill-used.

Steven Knight wrote a film littered with weaknesses: the coming-of-age story about a teen couple who in NYC is tossed between the yet to be discovered sexuality and the death that inevitably returns. The meta-cinematography of the mockumentary is annoying, David Bowie as an existential model seems exaggerated to me, and the two protagonists struggle to interact credibly.

Elgort is insufferable and Moretz seems frustrated and uncomfortable almost the whole movie, add the flat and empty plot and you get one of the most disposable films of this end of year.
