Gillian Jacobs is clearly a talent in comedic drama but that is wasted entirely by this subpar script and plot, events seem to be thrown in without real reason or meaning. It attempts to echo the comedy of everyday life framed within a writer’s mid-life crisis, but it lacks a consistent realistic lead and ultimately falls flat. It’s an awkward mess of film.

A brilliantly honest performance by Gillian Jacobs and a supporting cast. They bring such a believability to their roles. If you look at the t-shirt Gillian's character acquires halfway through the movie that says "The future begins here" then you get a feeling for the lesson this movie is imparting.

Boring, sadly, just boredom oozing from every pore. A comedy? Where are the jokes? Drama? Nothing happens......I waited for Jermaine Clement to give a quirky lift, but even he seemed stuck in this maudlin affair. I prayed for some nostalgic part of the soundtrack to reach out and grab me, but it never happened, nothing happened....Nothing new, no tension, no interesting characters, the only thing slightly memorable was the closing credit song - what does that say?
