I'm giving this a 8 mostly because its the very first Godzilla movie I ever saw. This movie made me a Godzilla fan and it still holds up for the most part. The Cgi is pretty bad and the dubbing is not that convicting, but the practical effects and monster fights are still great. This is my childhood and I will always defend it.

a film for the fans of the original godzilla films . this fixes the damage abit that was caused by hollywoods remake in 1998. if you have never wached a godzilla film or ever saw a godzilla film you probubly should pass.

After the disastrous reception of the 1998 American Godzilla, Toho reclaimed its monster and launched the Millennium era with Godzilla 2000: Millennium. Darker in tone and visually striking, the film restores the kaiju’s power and menace, though its narrative is shaky: Japan is supposedly attacked by Godzilla for 45 years without visible consequences, and the human cast is weak. The CGI effects, particularly Orga’s early form, are painfully dated, but the practical suit work and fight choreography remain strong. Godzilla’s new design is fierce, if slightly exaggerated. Ultimately, the film succeeds in re-establishing the monster’s mythic presence, even if it’s a shaky start to a new era.

I was really disappointed with this film, I was expecting so much more so my review will be especially harsh. The film starts with a great opening that is tainted by the fact that there is literally no explanation for the existence of Godzilla. If this is a sequel then how did he come back to life after the last film? If this is a re-sequel then same question. If this is a reboot then what is Godzilla’s backstory, he just appears and everyone already knows about him. Frustrating. Godzilla’s design is awesome but like most Toho movies there is no sense of scale to him. The serious tone is fine. The ambitious effects though are pretty terrible. It looks much worse than all the films from the previous era. The effects are worse than any of The Asylum movies, worse than anything from the eighties. Some of the effects look cool but these are the traditional monster suits smashing cities. The UFO looks especially bad whenever it appears. It is a huge step down in quality compared to the flawed American movie Godzilla (1998). The film is actually quite boring, there is a lot of operatic standing around looking at nothing happening, without removing any content they could easily have taken 15 minutes of waiting out of the film. I was disappointed that we didn’t see the Millennium aliens. I didn’t like how easily Orga was defeated although Orga was a really cool kaiju. Overall very disappointing and not a good entry. Correction: you do see the alien briefly as it gets pooped out of the alien ship, it took Google to find that out.

There are certain things this movie does well. I think the quality of the production is a nice step up. The Godzilla costume looks fantastic. However, The story could have been a lot better. It was painfully bland and boring. And the CG looks absolutely terrible. I wish they had just stuck to practical effects instead because it looks so much better, for the most part.
