Dumb and Dumber

This wacky buddy road film... has a brilliant glow of intelligence behind the stupidness. It's easily the funniest movie of the year.

There are limits to how much comic irony can be wrung out of the sight of two grown men acting like complete cretins.

The plot, of course, is merely an excuse for an endless series of gags, and the percentage of them that score is fairly high. But since the jokes are based over and over on the fact that Lloyd and Harry are really, really dumb, a certain repetitive factor sets in.

Maybe it's indicative of my end-of-the-year brain-fry, but this dopey comedy about two of the dumbest guys in the universe on a road trip to misadventure is a hoot.

A movie that knows much better than to try to make sense. It is essentially a strung-together series of gags, most of them thought up by Lloyd, an inveterate practical joker.

But the screenplay for this deliberately over-the-top (under-the-bottom?) farce—about Carrey's unwitting retrieval of some ransom money and his effort to return it to his dream gal (Lauren Holly) in Aspen—doesn't pass muster as a string of moronic skits (studded with urine and fart jokes) or as a lampoon of buddy movies.

An uneven collection of bodily function jokes, facial gyrations, sexual jibes and pedestrian slapstick, Dumb and Dumber appears to have been conceived by the leading lugheads themselves.

Dumb and Dumber has to be one of the most fun and funniest movies in history.

These guys are the very meaning of dumb. They don't get any dumber then this. Even though there pretty dumb they still were smarter then the bad guys, just because their dumb!

Does just enough to stay consistently funny though the first half is signficantly better than the second.

First one was novel and funny. This one was way way way bad and the laughable silliness in the first film was replaced with just plain stupid silliness in this mess of a sequel. Very disappointing --- no way this will be a trilogy, no way.

I watched this movie and never laughed once. The plot is bad and stupid. It's not funny at all, I didn't laugh once! Its so bad and I cannot believe I wasted my money buying it.
