This movie is uncompromisingly discomfiting, meant to remind people of all those drunken nights where they overreacted to every well-intentioned joke, and woke up choking on the stench of burned bridges.

At its best, All My Friends shares DNA with both the social dread of Ruben Östlund’s get-togethers and the leylines of Ben Wheatley. Hints of English folk horror — a pitbull tied up near a car, accusing looks at the driven grouse shoot — add to the delicious disquiet. Imagine if Ben Wheatley rebooted Curb Your Enthusiasm.

This one got me by surprise, it is truly one of the best movies I've seen in recent times..well actually ever! Very creepy, effective, keeps you second guessing and you never know what's really real. To put it simple: It's a masterpiece, and I don't use that term lightly. Brilliant, will stay with you afterwards that's for sure. Cast is brilliant, writing, direction, the music.10/10.

Very fun movie. I don't think many people would hate this. It's the sort of thing I'd recommend to anyone who's stuck for something to watch. What stops it getting a higher score is a slight lack of originality and inventiveness with the cinematography and so on. Compare it to something like Knives Out where the fun isn't only in the plot and dialogue but also the editing and camerawork and overall polish. It also lacks a little warmth and humanity, I couldn't really connect with any characters on a deep level. This could be intentional, to allow the audience to feel as disconnected as the protagonist, but I didn't especially connect with him either. Despite this, it does succeed in making the audience feel as confused and self-doubting as the main character, and works as a kind of absurd metaphor for social anxiety. I thought the ultimate posh guy was an interesting and revealing character, he is clearly the one suffering the most, and yet our protagonist is too busy worrying about what others think of him to really notice. It made for a nice little statement on how the narcissistic element of anxiety can harm people other than the patient. I don't want to get into spoiler territory, so will only say that I wasn't completely buying the ending and hope people understand why. I did experience weapons-grade nuclear cringe though, so that was interesting.

This enjoyably mean-spirited black comedy set in a grand country house will have you wondering who your real friends are – and what they really think of you.

All My Friends Hate Me digs out a special niche between cringe comedy and horror, as if Stourton, Palmer and director Andrew Gaynord welded an EC Comics plot to an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Stourton (“The Spy Who Dumped Me”) makes a depressingly relatable Mr. Put-Upon, with a hapless humorlessness that makes that “one of the funniest guys on the planet” the biggest insult of all.

Audiences may spend the running time of All My Friends Hate Me waiting impatiently for the shoe to finally drop. But Stourton and Palmer’s script points heavily at a secret that’s far less satisfying in the reveal than it is in the build-up. Maybe that’s the point. Here’s a film that leaves you with the same sickly, hollow feeling you might get spending time with the ghosts of your own past.

This struck me as that kind of comedy horror in which (like much romantic comedy) the “comedy” half of the equation has gone missing.

The sense of discomfort this film employs is as much for the character as it is for the viewers, in that it is quite effective, but I also think that the plot pushes the sense of social anxiety too far, especially in terms of how far it stops feeling believable and moves into more hesitant territory. I mention this because considering how much the other characters incite and insist on the anxiety and confusion of the situation with the main character, I even went so far as to say, ''At what point do you tell them to go **** themselves?'' All My Friends Hate Me works as a perfect case of reconnecting with friends you haven't really had much contact with in years, but yet you think you'll be able to restart everything exactly where you left off. But it's clear that's not how things function in this story. This is a dark comedy with elements that invite horror, more than anything because of the paranoia element involved.
I think a better pace would've helped it a lot, because the lack of variety in its tone causes some scenes to feel a bit boring and I really think it needed more bite, because if you're already being inconvenient and incisive, then go for it all, don't stay half way.
