Where About Cherry fails is in its depiction of interpersonal relationships. Nearly all of them are flat and uninspired.

James Franco's role hardly exists. He's a doped-up cipher who attends museum openings and drives his car into a cement wall, looking as bored and out of place as he did hosting the Academy Awards.

This was an EXCELLENT movie for its uniqueness. FINALLY, a movie that AFFIRMS WOMEN for who they ARE & the choices THEY make! The THREE female actors: Ashley Hinshaw, Lil Taylor, and Heather Graham were ALL EXCELLENT, and FINALLY portrayed WOMEN who did not have to end up with a MAN to be "complete!" And San Francisco, the most open-minded city in the United States, was the BEST PLACE to shoot this film!

When it comes for real addicted movies, I think this movie wins every award and heart. About Cherry isn't bad. It's actually a movie for every drama film lover.

Setting out to reassure that certain decisions do not necessarily have fatal consequences for one's sexual morality, though, About Cherry only manages to seem inconsequential.

The fatal flaw of this well-acted movie, whose creators are sex industry veterans, is its refusal to examine Angelina's occupation from outside the bubble. You might even call it a recruitment film.

Prostitutes have inspired some of the most unforgettable characters in fiction. As for all of its effect on Angelina, she might as well have saved herself the wear and tear and stayed in the laundry.

Given that porn star and academic Lorelei Lee cowrote the script, we can assume that the film's portrayal of the cine-erotica industry is accurate. Which simply means that, while totally botching little things like how people speak, act and live in the real world, the film gets at least one thing right.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this film as I knew nothing about it. As girl girl sex seems to be the 'in' thing just now I just hoped it wasn't jumping on the bandwagon because of "Chloe" and "Black Swan". Also sexy films are doing the rounds with two new ones about Linda Lovelace planned for 2013 and "About Cherry" is a good example of a sexy film. Ashley Hinshaw certainly doesn't act like a rookie in this and manages to put her fresh faced appeal into the role as she is convincing as a newcomer to the porn industry. Instead of showing the darker side of adult film making Stephen Elliot has given a look at how family and friends are ultimately the ones who pay the price of the decisions that are made. The whole cast were good and I liked the pacing. An OK adult movie. Not for everyone. 6/10

Is it possible to make a movie with a gorgeous girl, an alcoholic mom, innocent younger sister, a threateningly lecherous step-dad, a bad boy boyfriend, a coke addicted lawyer, and an ambiguous female porn director, all shot against artistically seedy backdrops and featuring the SF sex film industry....BORING? Apparently so - The movie dragged and stalled, the characters often seemed oddly disconnected from the events around them and the moments of fine acting that might otherwise have made true impact were swallowed up in the overall void that seemed to **** the connection and reality out of the rest of the film. One positive, Dev Patel amazingly seemed to be able to raise his role out of the vacuum enough to create a charming and believable character in spite of the odd vacancy surrounding him.

This film exists solely for two purposes; as a painfully self-righteous piece of feminist propaganda, and as a means of promoting the sex film industry as a perfect idyllic career, disregarding any questions of the ethics of the profession. The film gets 2/10 for reasonably tolerable acting from the cast, and for the character portrayed by Dev Patel, who provided some source of empathy for the audience to latch on to.

Great cast, crappy script, horrid production. I was waiting for the story to evolve - it never did! There was no story. About Cherry is really about nothing! There was no emotion, no care, no conflict that had any meaning. The movie was completely pointless. I didn't care for any of the characters. Their develoment was stale. Horrid! Don't waste your time!
