Gigandet, whose star has been rising thanks to his roles in such films as "Twilight," "Burlesque" and "Easy A," delivers a sensitive portrayal that proves he's more than just a hunk. Malone is as appealing as always, and Hartman is wonderfully fun as the Buster Poindexter-like singer. But the script lacks the depth to transcend its cutesy gimmick.

Buday's astrology-themed romantic comedy boasts a promising premise, convincing chemistry between its attractive leads and fine thesping by a defensively edgy Jena Malone. But the uneven script, repetitive tropes and over-indulgence of actorly bits slow the pace, tipping youthful casualness into complacency.

Gigandet fills every close-up with flirtatious face wrinkles, embarrassed smiles, and anything else he can think of, to the point where Jake seems downright spastic; although not terribly good at acting, Gigandet seeks to compensate for this fact by doing a lot of it.

A drippy ending erases all the hopes you've built up and forces you to conclude that this wasn't such a well-thought-out film after all.

Danny Buday's film is not so much skeptical of astrology as confused about it.

I did not expect to enjoy this movie, and was quite pleasantly surprised. Cam Gigandet breathes some sweetly understated, authentic life into reflective and humbled main character Jake, who sets out to disprove the validity of astrology and makes some nicely unexpected connections of his own along the way. Jena Malone is a standout in everything she does, and these two play off each other in uniquely redeeming ways. Patricia Belcher makes the most of some very limited screen time by injecting her signature brand of sarcastic sass. Decent production values and a surprisingly good soundtrack combine to deliver an overlooked gem of a movie that will prompt some viewers to ponder, and a good many others to hope. Excellent work all around. Mr. Gigandet should (under)play the good guy much more often -- it seems to suit him well.

I give this movie 7.5 out of 10. Jake's journey is quite inspirational. In his presentation, the questions, as well as the conclusion, are worth to ponder on. They allow us to step back to think of the values of life. The portrayal of the characters are distinct and impressive. The only thing that is not very good is Jake (cast by Cam Gigandet) made much unnecessary non-verbal language, which blurs the character's real personality from such strange acts.
