Ys X boldly sails into uncharted waters. It’s a sturdy vessel of combat, exploration, and heart, even if some of its individual parts could use further refinement. Ys X may not be my favorite Ys, but it does an excellent job of reminding me why Ys is my favorite.

Ys X: Nordics offers a fantasy world to explore, and several original ideas.

Ys X: Nordics is a really well-done little-big action-adventure RPG that can give you hours of fun. I guess I don't have to fear the demise of Ys after all. But still, Nihom, seriously: at least take a look at Unreal Engine 3 or something. Might help.

Refreshing combat. Bland storyline. User-friendly naval battles. Some bosses are poorly designed.

The series went downhill since Y8, while it fixes some issues of ys9, like those side missions that were just cutscenes, graphics have improved a little, with sharper textures and cleaner character models (still looks low budget) it has new issues, for example the combat is fun but the game lacks the enemy variety previous installments had, Side missions ares still the usual fetch quest for the most part.

Ys X is a wonderful game. Stunning visuals, amazing music, and compelling characters and story. After loving Ys 8 and enjoying Ys 9, Ys X is the most polished and my favorite of the Ys games I’ve played. It is a no brainer for anyone who has loved Ys games in the past. Visually, the game is so gorgeous with bright colors and beautiful visual effects. The character’s faces are full of emotion, and I love the hand drawn portions. On a PS5 Pro, the game runs at a consistent ~60 fps and is immediately responsive and dynamic to play.

Ys X: Nordics brings Adol Christin's youthful spirit to the forefront, offering a refreshing mix of action-packed combat, deep customization through the Release Line, and expansive exploration. With a gripping narrative and dynamic character relationships, this entry stands as one of the best in the series. While the sea navigation takes time to open up, the ship battles and adventuring more than make up for it. Ys X: Nordics will appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Ys X: Nordics is an exceptional action RPG. The game returns to the series' roots to deliver a solid experience built on a more strategic gameplay system and a great narrative with excellent characters that captures the sense of adventure and exploration that makes the series so fun.

Pros - the best iteration of the combat yet - banging OST - exploration is made infinitely more interesting by adding the ship and centering the game around smaller islands - genuinely fun story with memorable characters - the reduction in character roster only makes the game more focused on delivering spectacular abilities // Cons - weapons and armor not carrying over into NG+ feels cheap especially when both your accessories and mana seeds do carry over // Nordics is the most fun I have had with the Ys series yet. Dropping the party based combat for a duo based system is a welcome change that only serves to distinguish this game from the rest, and excites me for the next one. Like mentioned before, the party of six where three members were active is gone and instead we now only have two party members. This also means that the slash/pierce/blunt system is gone, in favor of damage/break. This, alongside the option of duo abilities, duo parries and the revenge gauge make this a really rounded out system that feels great to engage with. Next great addition is the ship. First time since 2013 I have felt the same excitement for world exploration as with Assassins Creed: Black Flag. While simpler than AC, the ship serves as a great mobile base for you and your crew, allowing you to engage in exploration of smaller island areas that have a lot of fun packed into them. To compare it to another game, Sandras the ship gives me the feeling of Normandy from Mass Effect, in the way that I find it a home that I return to when I want to talk to people. And the characters this game offers you, make all the talks worthwhile. While I liked the previous casts quite a lot, the game having only two playable characters means that there aren't any weaknesses in Adol and Karja, since the game can just focus down on the story of these two. And still, the rest of the crew is just as impactful on my time with the game as the two protagonists. Just chefs kiss. I can not recommend this game enough. Incredible combat, fun characters and a main story that is intriguing to explore. All of it and more, make this game a classic for me.

With Ys X Nordics, Falcom reconfirms the pedigree of excellent action role-playing games that it has always boasted in the Japanese production panorama. The new navigation mechanics enrich and multifaceted an exploratory system that, if it had only expressed itself in the contained three-dimensional maps that represent the islands, could have disappointed most. The battle system remains the jewel in the crown of the work, especially at higher difficulty levels, but perhaps it is time for the Japanese company to take a further step forward in terms of production values. Adol deserves to be the protagonist of a video game that does not seem to have come from a distant era.

While Ys X: Nordics might not light the world on fire by itself - and certainly has some core issues that could do with refining - I found that most of these issues slid into the back of my mind as I kept on playing. The story of Adol, Karja and the Griegr is enough to keep the game moving forward and the character moments that flesh it out were good. Ys X manages to demosntrate the key strengths of the franchise but unfortunate balance and shaky new mechanics hold it back from being a homerun.

Ys 10: Nordics isn't a bad game and offers plenty of action RPG fun for newcomers and veterans. However, some design elements feel off, leveling off what should be the series' next ascent to greatness.

Ys X: Nordics is a fun enough RPG with enjoyable combat, but dull sailing sections and subpar visuals make it a slightly disappointing sequel.

A step back for the Ys series in terms of a likable universe for me, but ultimately still an enjoyable game.

The game would have been 7-8 just fine but sleazy dlc overpricing drop it to 5 at best then they decide they are gonna announce a rerelease version with updates to content only a few months after NA release should have just held it back and launched only the new updated version
