As someone who loves the franchise. Torna polishes and fixes many of the things that the base game got wrong, while adding more the incredible story with many more character moments that will make you smile. The only bad part about the DLC in my opinion is that you will to do the side quests to progress the story. But honestly they are much better than many of the side quest in the base game and XC1 and XC3, and they add to the world of Alrest 500 years in the past. Out of all the side stories, this one is my personal favorite and is definetly worth your time

This DLC is totally worth your time. It really fleshes out the main story of Xenoblade 2 and gives you a much deeper understanding of the backstory.

A short and disappointing cash grab that simply does not work as a standalone game.

Great game, MUCH better than its base game, in my opinion. The story is shorter than the base game but expands upon so much of what I was curious about that just wasn't elaborated upon (possibly due to time constraints). Great DLC, my favorite in the series and almost redeemed the base game for me. A warning though, this game DOES force you to do side-quests in order to progress the story, twice. Other than that, I had no complaints with this game and you could even argue it's good it forces you to do side-quests since it makes the ending more impactful.

Torna Mythra **** !!!
I think making a game artificially last 8 hours is horrible. I really wanted to enjoy it, but the excessive padding, the dull story, and the mediocre character development bored me to death.I don't recommend it.

I really didn't enjoy the XC2 formula, but all this expansion does is try to simply XC2. A lot of fans are going to be upset about that, newcomers it will be a breath of fresh air. People who are mainly into the story, won't care either way.

Maybe I was burned out after playing XC2 for the second time, this time for over 100 hours, compared to the 60 I originally had and even though I loved every second of it, this DLC felt like a chore. I still really enjoyed it, the new gameplay is nice (original combat is much better), but there's something I felt was missing. I hope to one day feel like playing this DLC again, because I sure damn will play the original story again.

0 for the OBLIGATORY 50 side quests missions which are BORING AS HELL. It's so annoying that you are forced to do it in order to progress the main story I WILL NEVER DO IT. Waste of my time and money. It's a shame because this game could be good otherwise.

While the game elaborates on events that left some questions in Xenoblade 2, Torna’s cast fails to have the same magic as the base game. Torna elaborating on events in XC2, while nice, was ultimately unneeded, and doesn’t really affect anyone playing the base game.

Bingeing massive JRPGs before a new entry in the series isn’t an easy task, but it’s one I had to take on following Xenoblade 3’s release date getting moved early up to July. Xenoblade 1 was a fantastic game with some major gripes on my end, same with Xenoblade 2. Many in the Xeno fandom claim Torna as one of the best games in the series despite technically only being DLC for 2, so what did I think? I think they’re both right and wrong on that claim. I prefer 1 & 2 to Torna, but despite some fumbles this huge expansion does some things SO much better than it’s predecessors that I can’t help but be even more excited for 3!
Torna’s battle system is without a doubt the best in the series & it’s really not even a competition. Nearly every battle went by quickly without the tedium in the main game of 2, and without the frustration of some aspects of 1’s combat. It’s all incredibly kinetic and fast paced, it just might be my favorite battle system out of any JRPG I’ve played. I only avoided fighting enemies in my way if they were too strong to take on, but even sometimes I threw myself at them just to test how my skills grew, the combat is THAT good!! The general tone of Torna takes a while to get going but once it sets in, MonolithSoft flexes their incredible storytelling skills with one of the most devastating plot turns a JRPG has taken, playing 2 beforehand and knowing what happens to Torna still didn’t prepare me for what this expansion had in store for me. I liked all of the new and returning characters as well. Absolutely fantastic musical score & cutscene work as well. All the environments are lovely looking as well, but I still wish we could get ports to a more powerful console that could take full advantage of Xenoblade’s world’s potential (in an alternate timeline lol.)
However, there are some major pains in my neck that I encountered during my playthrough. The biggest complaint I and many others had with Torna is the padding, specifically the infamous Community system. If this didn’t exist, the DLC would probably be half the length which is understandable, but for as amazing as Monolith are, they really get stuck in some stupid design decisions. Content locking based on side activities is one of the worst gaming tropes and it completely **** the placing of this DLC. “Hey the big bad has what he needs to end the world soon, but first we have to run off and help out 46 people with their minuscule problems!” Absolutely baffling. It did go quicker towards the end, but that doesn’t eliminate how horrendous of a time I had doing mostly FETCH QUESTS for an extra 5-6 hours. Early 2000’s game design should STAY in the early 2000’s. It’s designed to make you care about the side characters before the end, but why would I want to invest my time into characters that aren’t gonna make it in the end? Forcing the player to do SIDE activities for a MAIN quest is one easy way to make the player hate the side activities. That ****, but what I also still couldn’t stand were the field skills. Not as bad as the main game due to the shorter length of Torna, but still completely grinds the pace to a halt if you don’t have the right ones unlocked.
Extremely solid DLC!

I highly recommend Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna The Golden Country to anyone who enjoys JRPGs. It's a fantastic game with a great story, beautiful world, and challenging battle system

TORNA THE GOLDEN COUNTRY DLC is a great addition to the game. It adds a new story set in the past, with new challenges and enemies to face. The new environments are also stunning, and there are plenty of new cool quests.

The UI, field skill system and some other mechanics, makes a game that could be really enjoyable, a massive cancerous disappointment. I am spending 80% of my playing time literally navigating the menu, trying to find field skills in order to proceed on my quests or trying to understand the ridiculously designed map. So disappointed because I really enjoyed the first game and was coming in expecting a similar experience. But no, everything was made more complicated, frustrating and some features removed altogether like the costumes.

This is a great game for what it is. It is a short but lovely and fun story with an interesting gameplay, very different to the base game'. Again, like every other Xenoblade game, the music is SO GREAT. This game helped me a lot to understand and love even more the cast of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and for that reason alone this is an excellent experience for those who played the base game. But it's still a very short $40 game so that's why i won't give it higher than an 8.

Better than the base game in almost every aspect in my opinion. The only horrible, HORRIBLE thing: You are forced to do SO MANY side quests and until you're done with them you can't progress with the main Story. Other than that absolutely fantastic

Even as a standalone game Torna is a great game, such a good and heart braking story, the music is great and the voice acting at least is better than the original, the tutorials are long as always but at least they're not so bad because you can see them at any time in the menu.

This "expansion pass content" is really large enough to be considered a separate game! This entry improves on the already stellar combat system of XC2 while adding some enlightening depth to certain characters.

The original game is great, but this DLC is just a hack. Story for 3 hours, the rest of the time you will complete monotonous side quests to get the opportunity to move on

Russian/English short review (no spoilers) Xenoblade 2. Great DLC, which is basically a whole new game. The Story length is 10+ hours (30-40 if you count side content) Battle System is GREAT and looks very fresh, graphics is better, especially in portable mode. Music is fantastic (there are some tracks from original game also) Must Buy for every switch owner, even if you have not played original game.

One of the best expansions to any game. If you liked the base game, you should definitely play this next. As a warning, make sure to do many side quests as you go, as you need to have completed a certain amount of side quests in order to progress through the main story.

a dlc that tastes like a full game ... great work by monolith soft it feels a totally fresh game with some mechanics between the original wii xenoblade and the switch delivery, some optimization problems prevent me from giving it a 10 but remember, it is a nintendo switch, it fits in the palm of your hand, it has 1/2 teraflop ... you take it wherever you want

Probably the best expansion I've been given to play. I really enjoyed the main game and this "DLC" really brings something more. A good amount of musics is new and/ or remixed, the graphics are quite the same (very nice given the hardware) and the gameplay has been implemented with small adds and twists. The rebirth of the sociogram from the first opus is the great idea here. But, most of all : what a great story ! A must play for anyone who enjoyed the main game.

With a far more engaging combat system than the base game and much better voice direction, Torna - The Golden Country is actually a key contender for one of the best DLC expansions for first-party Switch games so far. Mandatory side quests for progression can bog down the experience at times, especially if you've been ignoring them until the point that they're mandatory, but keeping on top of all of your side quests and actively engaging in them rather than treating them as chores diminishes this significantly. While this game can be purchased separately as opposed to being part of the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Expansion Pass and is indeed a prequel to the base game, many aspects will be confusing to players who haven't at least gotten a significant way through the base game. Play the base game, play this, have a good time.

This is an excellent DLC for XB2. it also speeds up the pace of fighting and simplifies the complexity in gameplay. The group has excellent characterization and the tragic memories also touched. A faire, si on a apprécié Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

You need to complete all the boring side quests to advance the main story. I stopped playing and watched the remaining story on YouTube.

The best DLC of all time. It is basically a completely new game. To finish the game you will need more then 20 hours, which is normal for 60£ games. Positives:
- low price
- fantastic world
- very good soundtrack - new characters
- very good story which surprise you even after finishing the main game
- good voice acting (much better then in the main game)
- really good combat system, better then in the main game
- entertaining side quests
- all problems from the main games are gone Negatives:
- you have to do many side quests for completing the game (they’re good but still) As you can see this is a very good DLC. I recommend it to everyone who played the main game. For those who didn’t, I would recommend to play the main game first, because there are parts of the story which are spoilers to the main game. All in all ten out of ten.

Torna: The Golden Country is one of the most ambitious DLC expansions Nintendo has ever released. While far shorter than the main game, the length allows the gameplay to be more streamlined and intuitive in several ways. For one, party management is a fair bit simpler, which is a good thing as the primary campaign is overly cluttered and has far too many systems. Scaling it back allows managing your different characters to be far more enjoyable. The battle system has also been overhauled for the better, and is both simpler and faster. Switching between characters is great, and it flows far better than the somewhat clunky main game. The storytelling is similar to the base game, and features many impeccably choregraphed sequences and intriguing plotlines. The cast of characters are fairly well defined, though unfortunately the title's relatively short length doesn't allow for as much character building as is found in other Xenoblade games. I'll also say that without the context provided by playing the main title the narrative would likely be completely incomprehensible; so make sure to play the base game until the end of Chapter 7 before delving into Torna. The music takes on a jazzier tone, which is unique to the series and very fun to listen to, while visuals are fairly high quality and comparable to the main title. By far the most major issue is the excess amount of padding. At least 1/3 of my total playtime was spent completing side quests, as they are required to raise your Community level, which gates you from progressing in the story at two instances. This interferes with the pacing, and the side quests are just honestly not up to the same quality as the rest of the game. They're fine, but being forced to spend hours completing monotonous fetch quests with barebones plotlines isn't what I come to Xenoblade games for. It's really a shame, if the Community system wasn't so intrusive the overall quality of the campaign might very well eclipse that of the main game.

Good game, but the original Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are better. The worst aspect of this huge standalone DLC is the necessity to finish many side quests in order to proceed in the story. It only prolonged the game. The combat is slightly changed and it is much better!
