Wasteland 3 should actually be called Fallout 3, as it has much more in common with two legendary Interplay/Black Isle Studios games than any later entry to the Fallout series. If that’s not a sufficient recommendation, let me put it plainly: Wasteland 3 is the best turn-based post-apocalyptic RPG in many, many years. Yes, at the time of writing this review there were many gameplay and technical issues that needed to be addressed as soon as possible, but the fun this game offered made it very easy to look past them. Wasteland 3 is one of the best RPG's of 2020. Your choices matter, your build matters, everything you do matters. You don't just play this game, you live in it.

Clichés and predictability don’t make the playthrough of Wasteland 3 any less enjoyable. After all, good post-apocalyptic RPGs are always in short supply. [Issue#248, p.36]

Wasteland 3 is basically what happens when you mix turn-based tactics with post-apocalyptic sass and then throw it all into a snowy wasteland that absolutely does not care if you freeze your socks off. You lead a squad of Rangers through Colorado’s frozen hellscape, making choices that feel important and occasionally terrifying — like deciding whether a bunch of cultists deserve mercy or a well-aimed boot up the hole. Combat is clever and tactical, with terrain, positioning, and abilities all mattering more than how many times you mash the attack button. You’ll swap weapons, sneak about like a **** trying to avoid trouble, and celebrate when a plan actually works instead of exploding in your face. Story and characters are sharp-witted, full of dry humour and oddballs you’ll either adore or want to slap. The writing’s strong enough that even the side quests feel like proper tales, not just random **** isn’t perfect. It can be a bit grindy, and some missions go on longer than a rainy Sunday in the pub. But when it’s good, ohhh it’s satisfying — like finding a working heater in the middle of a blizzard. Wasteland 3 is gritty, funny, and tactical as all hell. If you like post-apocalyptic chaos with smart turns and smartasses, you’ll have a grand time.

Story & Worldbuilding – 7.5 / 10
Wasteland 3 doesn’t aim for deep emotional storytelling, but it excels at creating a brutal, politically charged world. The mix of serious political conflict with dark, over-the-top humor works extremely well. Each faction has a clear identity and goals, and your decisions genuinely shape how the Rangers are viewed and how the world evolves — including the game’s ending. Side quests are consistently meaningful and often tie directly into the main narrative, even if none are truly unforgettable.
Gameplay – 9 / 10
A modernized CRPG experience with deep systems, dialogue choices, builds, and exploration. The game is easy to grasp but harshly punishes mistakes, keeping the tension high without becoming overwhelming. Occasional AI companion mishaps and camera issues can be frustrating, but overall the challenge and depth feel rewarding rather than exhausting.
Performance – 9 / 10
Very stable experience overall, with only minor bugs such as occasional skills failing to trigger.
Verdict - 8.5 / 10
Wasteland 3 is a must-play CRPG for RPG fans and a strong entry point for newcomers to the genre — not unforgettable, but consistently engaging and highly satisfying while it lasts.

Overall I felt Wasteland 3 to be an amazing successor to a great franchise and had me addicted within the first 10 minutes of play. It offers a great and compelling story with twists and choices that matter. The characters are robust and with the gorgeous artwork that is Colorado helps to bring everything to life. The combat is great and works well and I didn’t find it tedious. The skill system offers depth of choice for making characters and brings some interesting things to the game. My only complaint really comes in the form of a few bugs, but otherwise Wasteland 3 is everything I could want in a post apoc turn based combat game with a Frozen Ferret Launcher.

Wasteland 3 is an easy recommendation for RPG fans. It's a wild ride from start to finish - one that is well worth every hour and playthrough spent on it. Prior to launch, one developer stated that Wasteland 3 was "epic in size", but experiencing it first-hand proves that this is an understatement, that the game has much more to offer players than first glance, and that the game is worth playing, time and again.

Improving on its predecessor in almost every way, Wasteland 3 is one of the best and most reactive RPGs I've played in a long time.

Wasteland 3 does everything you expect from the series but in a sleeker package. From the freedom in building character abilities to your approach to the missions or which ending to strive for, there's plenty that's within your control, and those variations help if you want to play through the game multiple times. The story is interesting thanks to all of the decisions you get to make, and while your created characters don't add much personality, your companions are chatty enough to make encounters worthwhile. If you can forgive the occasional bugs, you'll find Wasteland 3 to be a top-notch RPG.

Wasteland 3 doesn't change its predecessor's successful formula but, outside of certain design limitations, it perfects and modernizes it. It's easily the best game in the franchise, in terms of pure technique, and one that clearly gives you an idea of what inXile is able to achieve.

Choices with major consequences, satisfying combat, and a boldly distinctive and humorous post-apocalyptic world make Wasteland 3 a memorable RPG.

Wasteland 3 is a good RPG that executes the same old formula sprucing it up with entertaining and interesting combat, good progression, inventory choices and a story that, while only average, is well delivered.

The game feels pretty repetitive. The mechanics and the options are not really fun enough, though they are detailed. The story is far behind of a realistic story, though it's fun! The story and the stuff in the game are based on humour, which makes the game somehow fun.

Good game. I played with pleasure. But the plot of the story is not very hooked. A little disappointing about the limited variability in the development of the plot.

It’s not exactly trash, but it’s a pretty disappointing experience. Feels like someone took the Fallout series and XCOM, watered them down, and tried to mash them together.
