For gearheads and RPG freaks, this is absolutely worth a look, and for everyone else, the creativity and holy-hell-they-make-a-game-about-that-stuff aspect might just make it worth the purchase price.

A surprisingly detailed game that will provide hours of enjoyment for those seeking a bit more depth than your typical naval warfare game.

A lengthy strategy game with a fair learning curve. It’ll take you an hour to understand the controls and combat system; it could take twice as long to grasp the massive ship-building system.

With 250 new ship upgrades, 100 new aircraft, and submarine warfare, Warship Gunner 2 is just the ticket for the gamer who always wanted to shout, "Damn the torpedoes! Full Speed ahead!" Just remember, it won't always be a pleasure cruise.

It does, however, provide a completely unique mix of strategic planning, design optimization, and cathartic release, held together by an enjoyably loony mix of World War II aesthetics and high-tech, sci-fi tomfoolery.

The main addition to WG2 is submarine warfare of the "run silent, run deep" sort, and it's actually kinda disappointing that you have to play through a significant chunk of the game before you even get a chance to pilot a sub. [May 2006, p.82]

If you can get past its dense and uninviting interface, Warship Gunner 2 offers unique naval combat and an incredible amount of ship customization.

If you like arcade style combat games against hundreds of enemies at a time, and the ability to design your own ships then Warship Gunner 2 is a worthy edition to your PlayStation 2 library.

I was frustrated by the drawbacks in the title, especially the tiny text on the in-game radar as well as some of the differences in the tutorials between what was being described and what actually was on screen.

The major drawback of WG2 is that the game could have been accomplished on a PlayStation. Being a PS2 game, the detail on ships and overall graphics are not up to scratch. I would have liked to have seen more varied missions, maybe even some little men running around decks.
