I have played a lot of survival crafters in my life but valheim beats them all hands down!

The adventures and exploration is top notch. What's not top notch is the inventory management and the fact tou don't have equipment slot is not good. I know its dev vision/design and what not, but it still not fun. So it is what it is.

Disclaimer: my vote is based on the current state of the game at release, because it's plagued by horrible map-resetting bugs that the developers are yet to iron out completely. Otherwise it would have been an 8. So, the game is good. Or I should say, the game does some important things right and has an unique approach that makes it refreshing. While a little clunky, the fighting, survival, building and exploring is pretty good, sometimes genius, like treating food as progressively better boosts instead of the usual boring implementations, or survival being limited to cold/wet debuffs with the chance of building your base so you can fight better for longer. With an engaging loop of getting better stuff to craft better gear to beat a biome and then move to the next one, it's guaranteed to be fun for a hundred hours at least, which can easily go in the thousands if you like building. It's rest that doesn't work. There's plenty of side activities that are not challenging nor fun to do, and even when they kind of are, the rewards range from disappointing to useless. Just an example: a NPC will ask you to recover three pieces of something. It's a long quest that requires lot of utterly uninteresting sailing true empty oceans, so you can risk your life with big baddies. Finally you move these cumbersome goods back to the NPC by boat, because they can't even be teleported, and the reward is her charging you money for a bunch of crappy items you'll never use. Multiply this x30 and you might see how a big chunk of the game consists on regretting the time wasted in futile endeavours, only to find more exercises of futility in the next biome. The risk/reward ratios is often nonsensical, so if you have limited time to play, be warned. It's a fun game that will keep you engaged for a long time if you don't mind how useless many things are, though.

The low-poly aesthetic blended with gorgeous lighting and moody weather creates an intoxicating survival atmosphere, especially when braving stormy seas alongside friends. The early base-building and progression loop is genuinely addictive, but the mid-to-late game gets weighed down by exhausting logistical chores and restrictive metal hauling that bring the pacing to an absolute crawl. Clunky combat hitboxes on uneven terrain and overly punishing stamina management also take a toll, turning what could have been a legendary Viking adventure into a tedious grind, particularly if you are tackling it solo.

Amazing survival game, one of the best in the genres. If you're wondering why this game is currently at a 7.4 on Metacritic, you should read some of the review comments... absolutely ridiculous, one person just said he does not like the graphics and gave it a 1. If you like survival games, this is one of the best. you should buy it.

The best hardcore survival game out there. I **** love wasting 4 hours sailing to the swamps to ship back my iron ores and can't fast travel. But honestly add an easy mode where I can travel with ores please.

Took 5 years for 1.0 but it's still the same enjoyable experience as it was when it released.

The best survival game ever made. It has some quirks here and there, but overall it's essentially flawless. A little grindy, but I like that, and it's worth it for how well fleshed out and unique the progression feels from biome to biome. The game also strikes a perfect balance between adventuring, fighting, building, and farming, and all these systems play into each other perfectly, though it does mean you have to engage with all of these systems to really enjoy the game. All of the different enemies and incredibly different biomes are so fun to explore, die to, and build in. A must play.

What can I say? Finally version 1.0 is out and it has optimised it’s performance. I’m playing this on a 7 year old setup running GTX 1070ti on 1440p and it still runs smoothly. It’s the ultimate game really. The game throws you into the world and you have to build shelter and find food and other resources not just to survive but also to progress into the Deeper North. Unlike other survival games where you have to constantly manage your hunger/thirst and so one, Valheim removed all that and makes food a temporary buff rather than that constant annoyance or thing you have to think about. It makes food more rewarding as it gives you more health and stamina rather than just filling up a meter. The enemies, well there plenty of types and if you’re not careful any of them can kill you really. You gotta learn their attack patterns and watch your stamina. I wouldn’t say it is souls-like but it has it’s vibes. You can dodge-roll and you can parry. Different enemies has different weaknesses. Some are weak to fire, some are resistant to slash damage and so on. The combat is surprisingly deep for a survival game. And of course we have the building. If you are tired of fighting you can just chill, listen to the soundtrack which is very soothing and build. The build menu is pretty extensive, there are tons of parts and let your inner carpenter out. Just go on youtube and you can see all the amazing stuff people have build. Lastly, the exploration. You get to go on your own odyssey. This what hooked me. You get to explore and discover new things. You can go on foot only until so far and then you have reached the limit, it is time to sail. On water you can feel the vulnerability. I have never felt this way from any game. You don’t know what lurks ahead and that is brilliant. Highly highly highly recommend this game.

Sure I liked it, marked down only as it was wearing my patience thin a bit. The Art is cool and the world draws you in. it was just too slow some times.

Every genre has a gold standard against which it should be judged. Valheim is very much that gold standard for crafting/survival games.
There may be a QoL improvement or two to make, but it's easy to spend hours upon hours getting lost in it's world finding new materials, crafting new equipment and building ever more elaborate buildings.

Hate the art style and interface. A lot of people love it but it fails on the basic points of drawing me in. So it's a hard pass for me. I regret buying it.

After 5.5 years of Early Access, the game finally gets the 1.0 release. It is trully one of the best survival games I have ever played. Peak gaming.

Starting with the Mistlands, the game becomes simply unbearably difficult and tedious.

Great to see a small team who started in Uni continue to build, and produce a fun survival game. A real labour of love. Hälsningar från Irland skål!

A playable but insanely overrated game that took 5 years to deliver on a 1 year roadmap, is still missing quality of life features from the genre that were common before its conception and which mostly hinges on the player's ability to intrinsically entertain themselves with building blocks on a soulless, algorithmic, virtually content-bereft Jell-O mold landscape.

Media hora para talar un árbol, para colocar un par de tablones... No es mal juego con mods, pero sin ellos, pide demasiada paciencia al jugador.

This game is absolutely perfect in every way, I have played this since 2023 and I have over 800 hours in this game on one world, this game has genuinely been the most fun experience for someone who loves all aspects of a survival game, crafting and base building isn't insanely grindy to a point it's boring it's satisfying gathering materials for a large range of build pieces or equipment to help you defeat the bosses, this game has no micro transactions or anything like that so once you have the game you can enjoy every aspect of it, words can't explain how good this game is if you play with friends aswell, it will create memories you'll never forget please just play this game 10/10
