A movie that somehow feels both rushed and slow-paced: you get long shots with no dialogue and nothing much happening in general, and then there's a time skip and you're already to the next step. The cast is mostly not great. In particular, Zendaya as usual can only either slightly frown or frown really hard, and Chalamet just doesn't have the charisma his character requires. Together with the pretty average soundtrack (desert = women wailing, bad guys = BWAAA) and a story with zero buildup where thing seems to happen just because, I didn't feel engaged at all. About the story, the few things I remember about the books seem pretty right. Nice effects, I guess. That's basically it.

The Fabulous World of Amélie meets Conan Doyle and it's a trainwreck. The premise is acceptable: we don't know anything about Sherlock's family and his brother Mycroft was introduced out of the blue, so Enola and their mother might have existed and be this quirky, no problems with that. M.B. Brown does a decent job but she's no Audrey Tautou, or at least the movie makes her look more like a caricature than a relatable character. Those are the good parts. The bad parts is a victorian London that feels like a trite stereotype from people who know nothing about it and, worse, not something Doyle would have wrote. Both Sherlock brothers are done wrong, especially Mycroft. I read all the damn books and this felt like some fanfiction written in America, especially the awful dialogues. Then, the cringy af feminism. Nobody herd that word in the 1880s and the only instances of modernity in Sherlock Holmes books are found at end of the series, 20 years later, when Queen Victoria dies and the characters realize the world is changing. Whether Doyle's victorian London was realistic or not, at least the guy lived there. The writers here obviously didn't, and didn't even care enough to pretend.

Not your generic western movie, with a bland-ish non-story developing slowly but with some pretty powerful moments every once in a while, that makes it worth watching, especially because of Christian Bale's and Rosamund Pike's performances. The political message is obvious but not preachy. Woke-ism done right.

This is probably the best adaptation of a Stephen King book so far, which isn't saying much but it deserves a +1 for the attempt. The kids are great but the horror parts fail to do their job because it's just a trite collection of cheap tricks you already saw a million times. I understand the monsters have to be a little cartoonish because they're based on what the kids are afraid of, but to the eye of an adult it's just silly, not scary or creepy.

Not the most original or technically brilliant survival movie ever but the terrific performance of Mads Mikkelsen is definitely worth the watch.

A needlessly convoluted plot full of holes with special effects that wanted to be mindblowing but often just look silly, scenes that look super-cheap because of weird lighting choices, and a two-dimensional protagonist played by a piece of wood. At least the score was BWAAA in polirhythms. And there's worst movies to see in 2020, unfortunately.

Technically excellent and most accurate than the average space movie, but slow paced AF and the whole plot is somewhere between nonsensical and uninteresting, ending with an extremely plain moral lesson that nobody asked for.

The critique of yuppies is a little to shallow to matter, albeit funny, and the twist falls a little flat on its face, but the superlative performance by Bale (as usual) make this much more watchable than what it would have been with a different actor.

An ok drama hindered by an almost comical and definitely not frightening horror; the anticipation of the thing worked much better than the thing itself. A great performance by Essie Davis is the only reason why this doesn't deserve a bad vote, but that's it.

There's not much to say: a masterpiece with a terrific cast and one of the best (if not THE best) De Niro acting performances. Anyway, I suggest watching it at home in 2-3 sessions, like a mini-series, because it's simply too long and not paced enough to be enjoyable in a single session.

Set in a future Japan that looks like Hong Kong and has 99% of japanese people substituted by americans and chinese... Ok, jokes aside this would have been an excellent adaptation of GitS if only the casting wasn't so poor. People, let's just admit it: ScarJo can't friggin' do actions movies. She moves like a hunchbak sack of potatoes wearing iron boots, and can only do that mildly sad frowny face. Where's the charismatic and stoic Major? All the poetry (and there's not much of it) goes wasted on her acting. Worst part: while in the anime she chose her own destiny and goes on her own terms, in the movie she never has any choice. She's a victim. Character assassination at its best. And don't get me started on the young, souless Batou, or the useless original character introduced just because the team was too male. Can't unsee Jackie Chan Togura either. Another sore thumb: the music. Forgettable. It's a crime for a series also known for the fantastic soundtrack. And, of course, no tachikomas because f**k the fans, I guess. It's really a pity because the rest is pure GitS, even if the story could have been more nuanced and political instead of beating on the usual frankestein trope dead horse.

A decent ghost movie with a twist. Low budget but not totally cheap, with a few nice effects. Instead of just the usual jump scares, it delivers two or three genuinely chilling moments, and I mean literal chills down the spine and sudden goose bumps. A good ending too, but pretend the very last shot and the final song never happened, it's beyond cringy.

A good cast and good cinematography, but the constant feedbacks of the second half was annoying and the ending a little ham-fisted, wasting a decent premise. Not many thrills but no gratuitous loud jump scares either.

It's the usual Tarantino flick: nostalgia, weird people doing weird stuff and a senseless massacre. But (some of) the cast is great and it's the best reenactment of the late 60s, early 70s that I ever saw, it really was like being there.

No movie after this was able to make my jaw drop (literally) because of the realism of the effects, and the pacing is simply perfect, with a simple but uplifting ending that left me a good aftertaste, without that feeling of being served yet another McEnding. It's the usual space drama, but for once being in space matters (instead of it just being fancy scenery) and the drama works. Overall the story makes little sense but it didn't matter to me because the rest is so good, including Sandra Bullock's acting. Watched 3 times, would watch again.

Once again, a movie about space which is not about space but instead about some convoluted metaphor for whatever else. If you've seen Solaris, Interstellar or Sunshine you know the drill, except this one seems to be made with a budget of a few thousand bucks, the best acting comes from a little baby, the rhythm is non-existant, and the story makes no sense at all. If you like long, and I mean looong shots of people doing nothing in a place that's supposed to be in space but could as well be anywhere else, be my guest.
