A remake that improves every aspect of the original title, bringing it up to date with an excellent dual combat system and an engaging story. The perfect starting point for anyone who wants to get into The Legend of Heroes saga.
If you can overlook the minor localization issues, what we're left with is a near-perfect JRPG. And if you've been hesitant to start due to the sheer size of the Trails series, this is your chance.
The lack of chatty treasure chests continues to be a missed opportunity in this otherwise immaculate remake of the Trails saga debut. Falcom is on fire.

I try so hard to like these games. Love the combat system. But I just can't get past how boring the story is played out. The characters don't move around and act, not dynamic movement other than the intro animation scene, maybe an end game scene? After 12 hours I didn't see another, it's the characters standing and talking with word balloons sometimes voiced sometimes not. If the story wasn't a major part to these games I might feel differently about them.

Trails in the Sky the 1st sets a new benchmark for how a remake can solve the pacing issues often found in modern JRPGs. It is a brilliant masterpiece that breathes new life into the classic narrative with stunning modern visuals. While the updated graphics and refined gameplay are incredible, I have to be honest: Falcom’s choice to end it on such a cliffhanger is just as irresponsible now as it was years ago!

One of the best remakes i played and i cannot for the 2nd chapter. Falcom deserves it for what they are doing for such a long time.

Back in the day, Trails in the Sky hinged on its story and world-building to make up for its other lacking characteristics. Twenty years later, Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter not only brings back the full heart of what made the original a classic, but it can now stand tall beside any other heavyweight JRPG. The visual presentation is beautiful, the mix between real-time and turn-based battles is a blast, and the quality-of-life additions adhere to present-day audiences. I can confidently say that Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter is a quintessential JRPG that should be cherished by every fan of the genre.

Trails in the Sky 1st is absolutely an amazing game where the journey is much more appealing than the destination

Worth Playing
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is the gold standard for a remake of a good game. It expands and improves upon the original without losing any of the charm that made the original game shine. Its flaws are more with the original work than anything the remake did incorrectly. In terms of basic gameplay, it's probably the most enjoyable and well-designed Trails game to date. It also marks the perfect entry point to the Trails franchise, and there's no better way to figure out if this series is for you.

I’ve played and reviewed a lot of remakes. Many somewhat fall flat on the basis of not saying or doing a damn thing important. Shining out through all that noise in Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. It’s a hallmark in how it recaptures a JRPG classic, steadfast and headstrong in justifying its existence as it invites returning fans and even newcomers to what they’ve been missing out on all these years. Travelling the great unknown with Estelle and Joshua again has been an unbelievable privilege and delight, following their story and connection as a colourful cast joins in tow. There’s barely a bump on the road on the journey, allowing players to soak in the world of Liberl in all its monster-hunting, government-conspiracy-unravelling glory. Job well done, Nihon, you’ve stuck the landing.

Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter blew me away. I’ve always wanted to play more of the Trails series, but, as a console preferer, have seen the PC versions of the Trails in the Sky trilogy as a barrier. This remake has a wonderful world and narrative. It’s action/ turn-based hybrid combat system is incredibly fun to play. My only major complaints are that there are so many terms specific to this game, and so many needless menus early on, that it takes way too much time to realize how familiar the systems are. Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter is a must-play for JRPG fans. Bring on the 2nd Chapter, because I can’t wait to see where this story goes!

You can't go much better with an entry point into the long running Trails series, but Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter also stands on its own as a standout RPG experience.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter might well prove to be the start of something great, but it's a pretty slow start. If you do have the patience to sit through the game's endless exposition, there's a colorful and charming world to explore and plenty of entertaining battles to be fought.

The first remake of the Kiseki series, where you can start playing the very first game that launched this great saga. It features enhanced 3D graphics, English and Japanese voice acting, and text that includes Spanish. This title is ideal for those who have never played any of the games in the series and want to jump into one of the JRPGs with the most extensive narrative to date.

A fairly good remake. The writing is still substandard when compared to other video games released today though. They didn't even implement a way to change the speed of the text despite improving other various features.

The original Sky trilogy is great but this remake is not. Confirmed censored dialogue and models even in JP version, bugs, awkward low-effort animations, full of grammar mistakes and typos which means it was clearly written by someone who is not good with English. Falcom has lost their touch.

I mean….. come on. This game looks and plays like it’s 10-15 years old. The story is just fairy land nothing. The combat is exactly the same as it is in every other trails game. Which is to say, not impactful and just pretending to be deep without really achieving it. You just run from place to place and then watch a 5 minute cut scene about nothing. I thought at some point these games would start to feel like a modern jrpg. They need to take cues from final fantasy which feels meaty and well established. This is just silly. They are banking on nostalgia and based on other reviews it has worked. But there is just no way this is a good game. It’s just nonsense. Sorry. It’s a ps3 game that’s really long.
