The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is a fantastic multiplayer survival game. The mining is fun, the fighting is serviceable, and the progression feels really nice. The fact that it brought back Gimli and is set in the Fourth Age is really cool, especially since the player has a custom character in the story. Best experienced with friends, but totally fine to play alone. This title really deserves more attention than it got! Highly recommended to all fans of Middle-earth.
If Lord of the Rings and "survival-crafting" combo sounds good to you, this is the game for you. Still, you'll have to work hard to overlook its faults.
Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria has the potential to be a challenging and enjoyable multiplayer experience. The loop of mining, crafting, and exploring is a satisfying one when overwhelming hordes of goblins aren’t haranguing you. There doesn’t seem to be any real optimisation for solo players so I’d probably stay clear unless you can get a band of dwarves together to brave the darkness of the mines.

One of my all time favorites. This game has a lot of atmosphere and the story progression alongside getting your gear (and base(s)) up to snuff is a very addictive loop. Don't be put off by the initial reviews, the developers constantly worked and still work on getting QoL and new stuff patched in since release. The community off this game is welcoming and the devs always keeps the community informed about their thoughts and vice versa - the community shapes this game with their input too. If you are a LotR/dwarves fan jump right in, you most likely won't regret it.

Had some real fun with this one. It is not overly complex and the steady progression feels satisfying. There are some issues here and there, but i got a ton of hours from this game with my friends, and it is easily worth it even at full price.

Return to Moria fills me with such joy as a LoTR fan and a building/crafting fan. Please, if you are on the fence, at least try it on your own. I also went to the Discord to find new friends to play with, and am now doing awesome runs through the game and building great wonders as I go in a community that is always challenging itself!

Certainly grab a copy if you are a fan of Middle Earth and if you like the crafting genre… or even just if you are a fan of Middle Earth, there’s more lore here to absorb whilst traveling the halls of Moria (or digging them out).

Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria doesn’t take any huge chances with the survival crafting genre. Still, the Lord of the Rings overlay and familiar character cameos help make its familiar loops seem fresh enough. In the mixed-bag pantheon of Lord of the Rings-inspired games, Return to Moria acquits itself quite well.

Once you get through the initial phase of learning the base mechanics, you have a FANTASTIC game on your hands here. The atmospshere is great, the exploration is fun. The PROGRESSION of unlocking new weapons and armor through the forges is really well done. All in all, I could not put this game down and played it start to end in like14 days or so. I got A LOT of hours out of this. Sure sure, I agree, the whole mining bits and constant signing does get a bit OLD after a while (Whish you could skip the Durin Lamp for example) but hey, other than that. Great. Also, I had no technical issues of any kind. ZERO crashes!!! ZERO!! In over 60 hours of game time!!

The Lord of the Rings Return to Moria unfortunately fails to stand up to the sacred monsters of the survival genre. Net of the excessive presence of combat, a construction system that is not too successful and a technical sector that is not the latest trend, the Free Range Games game succeeds in its aim of immersing players in the magical world of the Lord of the Rings and guaranteeing them a few hours of fun, especially if in the company of a group of friends.

The formula for a game like this is well established, and while Return to Moria doesn't add anything new to the genre, it works just fine. It may seem strange, but it's boring in a somewhat safe and relaxing way – when the technical aspects works.

But Why Tho?
Return to Moria has a decent core that could have used a little bit more time in the tank to reach its full potential. Hopefully, community feedback will be taken into account and post-launch support will focus on improving some of the basic mechanics. If they do that, it has real potential to be one of the better survival crafting games in recent memory.

If you’re a fan of the universe, Return to Moria is a reason to re-immerse yourself in familiar sights and sounds, but for anyone else it’s just another survival game.

There’s a decent game in here somewhere, as the compelling progression loop and chaotic multiplayer capabilities can make for a really good time – I just can’t give you many reasons to pick this survival game over the plethora of better options when it’s only ever by-the-numbers at best.

I imagine this would be worth it with a steep discount, and only if you play coop, buta game being better because friends are there is a pretty cheap compliment, because that is most games

Game is fun but feels unfinished and clunky. Boss decided to become invincible during a boss fight, Map is painful to navigate especially late game and Good for causal players. Who aren’t worried by a few glitches not so much for players who want challenging combat and gameplay. Has its perks but sometimes feels tedious late game

Wanted to love this game for its dwarf theme, but it felt incomplete, and I struggle with survival games.

It feels like ps3 game. I hate what they have done with potential of this game! There are overwhelming amount of points that should have been done or done better. I love lotr and only because of that I'm playing this game. If you play alone it's pain most of the time. Loading screens, my ps1 is faster! The worst of all is that if you find blueprints you can't just craft them in a forge no. You have to search 5h for specific one in the world. That makes orcs and enemies always better than you. And if you not find that f forge, 2+ stronger enemies and your done, run if you can. I wouldn't recommend it because for me this game is 50% finished and should be forged for some more time that it is.
