The House of the Dead: Overkill - Extended Cut

We absolutely loved this zombie-splattering rail shooter when it first shuffled into existence on Wii in 2009 - and it's every bit as enjoyable on PS3 with added Move support. [Dec 2011, p.96]

Brilliant example of a sadly forgotten subgenre. Overkill is a Gun Game with a lot of entertainment to offer, full of personality and terribly fun. It's too easy and could have more content, but it's a great offer for fans of shooting at the screen.

This is easily one of the stronger Move titles, though that's not saying much with the peripheral's current line-up. As it is, Overkill is a foul, brutal, and loveably twisted game that's surprisingly varied, has a good amount of content, and, most importantly, is fun to play with a friend.

One of the best reasons to own a PlayStation Move in months, but that's more a reflection of the weak Move lineup than the game being anything other than a solid light-gun shooter.

Pure grindhouse and stupidly fun. Not very recommended if you already played it on the Wii, but if not you will probably like its irreverent and adolescent attitude.

As a grindhouse-esque story House of the Dead: Overkill - Extended Cut doesn't impress much. Neither does it as an on-rails shooter, or as a fun experience. However, with a friend this can remind you of gaming sessions of old at your local arcade, and that's at least something.

with the controller its just another game, but with the ps move (inside gun attachment, or riffle) its one of the most fun i ever had with a video game!!! only issue is the infinite continues, at least have check points? nope instead you get to continue where you last died indefinitely, thats the only issue with the game

This is an enhanced PS3 remaster of the Wii game. Along with the HD graphics and improved frame rate, it also includes two new levels, more mutants and the option to play in 3D . The best way to play the game is with the Move, but you can also use the Dual Shock controllers. Overall, this is a fun on-rails shooter that is extremely profane and very gory. It's more comparable to Robert Rodriguez's "Planet Terror" than with the previous "House of the Dead" entries. I would rate it with a 7.8 out of 10.

This HD remaster of the Wii game includes plenty of extra content. The game itself is like a Suda 51 version of "The House of the Dead". It takes on the form of grindhouse exploitation filled with non-stop F-bombs and adolescent humor. Along with the original game, you get the Director's Cut, three extra modes and unlockable content including modifiers. Best played with a partner, the game also utilizes the Move peripheral and 3D effects (if you have a 3D TV). This is easily the best of the "House" franchise. I would rate with a 7.7 out of 10.

One of the most famous arcade games gets an episode exclusive for consoles, would it become a reference as a console rail shooter ? First graphically the game is a port from the wii version and therefore almost seems as a PS2 game, at least there's no glitch. As for the gameplay the game is best played with the PS Move (even if it is possible to play with a controller, eventually good for coop) with responsive controls, unfortunatelly there's nothing new in the world of rail shooters. Content wise the story plays out as a classic grind movie, a genre with to few defenders in the video games world (in my opinion), it would have been better if the actors weren't that bad but at least there's some good punchlines along the way. The game will last approximately 6 hours which is very short and the "extended cut" is in fact only a mode that you'll unlock after finishing the game once allowing you to replay the SAME levels withs a few more rooms and therefore not very interesting, as every arcade game the replay value is based on the scoring but if you're ego doesn't need to be in the first place the game is very short. In conclusion a fun trip but very short and with nothing outstanding (except maybe nice boss fights) make House of the Dead Overkill a fun co-op game to play but not advisable for solo players that are looking for a rich experience.

Was very dissapointed. Graphics looked about the same as the original house of the dead on the dreamcast. Half of the time you can't even tell if you shot them because there is no animation that shows if you hit the zombie or not. So bad its almost good.
