Nintendo's had plenty of cases of poor timing over the years, but Tank Troopers feels like one of the most unfortunate. [Issue #27 – May/June 2017, p. 23]

While Tank Troopers has an interesting concept, the game feels like it was not properly finished and rather plays like a rushed effort in order to be released before the 3DS starts fading out of the market.

Tank Troopers is exactly what you would expect from a game about tanks. Adding to this is the fact the title manages to adhere to Nintendo's family-friendly criteria while at the same time filling the void when it comes to the lack of shooters across the company's current generation of hardware. The problem is, despite solid foundations, the title falls short simply because it does not offer online functionality. It's this one glaring problem that lets Tank Troopers down. Beyond technical limitations, it is hard to guess why this would be left out of a game that is dominantly focused on player connectivity. Unless you have a close group of 3DS companions you can play with locally on a regular basis, Tank Troopers is hard to recommend sorely for its single player mode.

A hidden gem on the 3DS! Had a great time with friends on local multiplayer!

Tank Troopers, a third-person shooter where you play as a tank. The primary focus of the game is on local multiplayer, and fortunately Nintendo delivered a fun little experience ready to be enjoyed on 3DS if you can get some friends together. The absence of online mode can be considered as a lack of ambition. The good news is that even though Tank Troopers doesn't feature online play, it does feature very fun local multiplayer and super fun single-player modes. With all of the missions to master, Tanks and Troopers to collect, and good selection of modes to play with your friends, Tank Troopers is a great little game packed with content that would be a great addition to your 3DS library.

Tank Troopers is, at most times, everything you want in a downloadable title. It fires you right into the action, quickly introducing you to its simple tank-based mechanics then forcing you to test your mettle in increasingly difficult challenges that never take more than a few minutes to conquer. But for longer, more social gameplay sessions, the game also sports multiplayer modes that are accessible for both competitive mode newcomers and strategy-minded gamers alike, albeit a challenge to round up the people to play it.

At $8, Tank Troopers is priced fairly, but might have faired a lot better had online play been supported or if there were just a little bit more of a hook for solo play. Still, for a simple, short, and mostly fun game, you can do a lot worse than Tank Troopers.

Whether intentional or not, Tank Troopers looks like a wannabe World of Tanks clone; too bad that it missed its mark by about the distance between Tokyo and Minsk. Good tank action needs good balance as well as nice variety of vehicles, maps and modes. Tank Troopers is lacking in each and every category. [Issue#218, p.56]

The absence of online mode can be considered as a lack of ambition, but rather proves a wise omission, since Tank Troopers follows a straightforward approach, tactically sound for close range combat, aiming more at efficiency than originality.

If you are looking for a fun game featuring tank combat and maybe some entertaining abilities, this is not that game. Look elsewhere.
