For all the risks Sunset Overdrive takes with its vibrant art direction and intuitive level design, the Mystery of the Mooil Rig is a fundamentally safe spin-off. It’s impressively consistent with the main game, and enough that relearning the controls takes no time, even if you haven’t touched Sunset Overdrive since launch week.

Maybe this DLC seems expensive for its short duration. However, The Mystery of Mooil Rig is a fun addition thanks to the new abilities and play areas. If you haven't touched Sunset Overdrive since you finished it, this is a good time to come back and have harmless unhinged fun.

Mystery of Mooil Rig continues Sunset Overdrive's maelstrom of colorful and chaotic action. As far as downloadable content goes, Mystery of Mooil Rig is wholly traditional - but when it's applied to a game as whimsically defiant as Sunset Overdrive, it's tough to complain.

Despite its brevity and lack of ingenuity, Sunset Overdrive and the Mystery of the Mooil Rig! is both fun and comical, providing a good excuse for a return visit to one of 2014's greatest interactive haunts.

It really mirrors the flaws of the original games. The level design is superb, but the gameplay feels flat and repetitive after a little while.

There’s a fair number of new features and missions here but none justify the price, and the experience will pass from your memory almost as soon as it’s over.

The best thing that Mystery of the Mooil Rig can add to Sunset Overdrive are a few new moves that make traveling over water a bit easier. Unfortunately there is not a big and interesting role for the oil rig to play. After two hours you have finished off all oily energy-drink mutants, meh.

A confused step for a game that's already suffering from a minor identity crisis. Disappointing. [March 2015, p.87]
