Disclaimer: I'm not paying full price for a bad game, so I did the trial.Much like many of Ubisoft's games, Skull and Bones is a sad game, this is not some random title that they put out; this was a game with a 650-850 million dollar Budget and an 11-year game development cycle. For reference, a good contrast is GTA5, which had a 5-year development cycle and a 250ish million dollar budget. It's sad to see this much time and money being put into a game with this level of unpolished gameplay. At the same time, it's not; it feels like this was a cash grab- get the money and go **** me break down the first few hours of Skull and Bones (Which is the longest you should play this game for. You hop on, the game, you're forced to make a UBisoft Club account before playing the game, you start playing the game with this cinematic battle going on, and die not matter what. You get brought back to shore and now you have a crappy unpowerful and unfun to control ship and have to play 30ish hours to get a better ship.I think companies like Ubisoft don't understand what fun Gameplay is. They think that **** has a long story, complicated skill trees and menus, millions of side quests, and a material-based upgrade format, people will like the game and play hours of it. Along with that, people will spend tons of money because of how fun that is.Skull and Bones' Development cycle was spent on just that; it wasn't focused on the fun part of the game (the combat), it split its attention to all of this bloated garbage that makes the game **** skull and bones should have been, was a at sea game where you're on your ship, battling other boats not only as a boat, but actually boarding other boats and having combat there- and that's it. It didn't need a complicated skill tree, a story, or anything else; it just needed to have an idea for the core gameplay and deliver on that **** again, the core gameplay is fighting other boats- the issue with splitting your time between the fun part and the unfun part of the game is that the fun part **** controls, the majority of the time, are sloppy and sluggish, and the combat is mindless; you shoot cannons, ram into ships, that's essentially it unless you spend a million hours unlocking everything else. This is not to mention all of the performance issues- the game itself can look good, there are good lighting effects, and the textures can look good at times. As a whole, though, there is constant clipping in and out of things, objects in the background that appear and disappear, along with the edges of objects sometimes being pixely.I clearly have mainly bad things to say about the game, but this is not the worst game I've ever played. I did have elements of fun in it. But once again, it's bloated by Ubisoft crap.

I had pretty fun time playing with friends. There are some minor bugs and story is very boring but sailing and fighting with ships is fun. Not sure would I play this alone. If you have friends you should try it!

What a nighmare. One of the worst experience i have in gaming. Dull storyline, Bad machanics and chaos. The things are all over the place. On top of that many stupid trophies. I am sure the game designers were drunk when they made it like this. Now i completly understand why this game sunk to the bottom of the sea. Well deserved.

It is an awful game as you could never imagine. Really hard to understand the quantity of bad design decisions this game has. At first could feel like is ok or even good, but farther you go, worst it becomes. The map is full of activities that activates 2 or 3 at the same time when you are doing one of them, making everything so hard because you must defeat not one, but 20 ships at the same time. World events are kind of funny if there were more players. The story is a joke, seems it was done at the end of the development and in a hurry. The map is just tiny, I thought I would be in a first part of a bigger one and no, that's all. The most disappoiting game I have played the last ten years. I always had hope for this game, even I played the alpha and beta phases, but the game released is just a scam that looks unfinished as hell, even worst than in beta tests.

Dont even try it. I could tell the game was going to be bad as soon as i saw the character customization screen i decided to keep playing to see how bad it really was and the ship combat is boring and the most of the game that i saw was just microtransactions and nothing more.

I just downloaded it for free from Playstation Plus and I still feel like I've been scammed. Assassin's Black Flag is 500 times better and is 12 years older. I think it's a scam and I don't intend to waste another minute playing it.

"Skull and Bones delivers a catastrophic disappointment. Ubisoft’s attempt at crafting a pirate-themed adventure collapses under the weight of its own mediocrity. The game promises exhilarating naval combat and a vibrant open world, but instead, it offers a shallow and repetitive experience marred by technical issues and poor design **** core mechanics of naval combat, which could have been the game’s saving grace, are rendered dull by clunky controls and a lack of depth. The supposed open world is nothing more than a series of repetitive, uninspired tasks. Instead of an immersive pirate saga, players are met with a monotonous grind that quickly loses its charm.Graphically, "Skull and Bones" fails to impress. The environments are bland, and the character models lack detail, failing to evoke any sense of wonder or adventure. The game's soundtrack and voice acting are equally uninspired, adding little to the overall **** terms of content, the game feels woefully incomplete. Many features touted in pre-release marketing are either missing or poorly implemented. The progression system is unbalanced, and the multiplayer aspect, which was supposed to be a highlight, is plagued by connectivity issues and a lack of meaningful interaction.Overall, "Skull and Bones" is a glaring example **** that had potential but squandered it with poor execution and a lack of polish. It’s a forgettable venture into piracy that will leave players yearning for a more rewarding and coherent experience.

Six months later game is still crap. Pvp helm wager, hostile takeover, and legendary treasure scroll are all complete bs, people ganging up on you exploiting every aspect of those modes. Every pvp mode is a 5v1, 4v1, or 3v1. Or they take the whole server and it's pointless to even play.

I fell like it is a step **** the Assassins Creed series you have a true open world. You canstop with your ship on any island, swim there and explore it. You can go on mountains etc. Here you can't do it. This just feels like a step back and I don't understand it, as they should have the programming engine for a true open world. I will rather wait for the next AC game than spend time on this one.

It would have been better if they made a remastered assassin’s creed black flag or assassin creed 3 at least just give it 60fps instead of skull and bones… bro I can just ride my ship and sink other ships??? That’s it?? Graphics is good, gameplay is fine, and i don’t see any story, will never be a good pirate game at all and the price doesn’t make sense at all it’s not worth it

Repetitive from the get-go... Boring game with very little in the way of a real storyline. Very limited ship styles to choose from and only small and medium-sized ships are available. There are hardly any players online so this just adds to the boredom level that much more. Quite the sad experience for a pirate game. Also, the constant event pop-ups is wholly annoying and completely removes any immersive play style altogether! Shelved this game after playing for barely a week... Kinda sad.

If you want an example of a company feeling passionless, look no further than Skull and Bones. AAAA quality they said. The long wanted pirate fantasy they said. The fact you can’t even engage in hand-to-hand combat almost speaks for itself as much as the fact your ship has a stamina bar. No you didn’t misread that, the PIRATE SHIP has a STAMINA BAR. The fact people still trust Ubisoft after creating these hollow, borderline AI generated gameplay loops is ridiculous. Not to mention how butt ugly this game looks and how it’s crammed with live service nonsense. It doesn’t matter that ship combat is halfway decent because they promised much more than that. Here’s to hoping Ubisoft goes out of business.

You'll get a more robust and complete feeling pirate experience with Sid Meier's Pirates, and that came out 20 years ago. This game was a total let down.

Skull and Bones is a dull exercise in checklist progression, spiced here and there with some impressive sailing. TGG – 6 / 10 AUDIO 7/10 Tom Holkenborg summons a suitably piratical score, and the sounds of the sea are all present and correct. VISUALS 7/10 Some arresting sights are spread throughout, but some of the character models are quite ugly. PLAYABILITY 5/10 A lot of Skull and Bones is boring checklist work, peppered here and there with some pleasant sailing. Mainly, it’s dull. DELIVERY 5/10 There is a lot here to keep you busy, as Skull and Bones is a live-service beast. Whether you will want to keep playing is another matter.

This game just proves in this ps5 and series x generation games have not been the best. It's saddening to me there are releasing a ps5 pro when they haven't even really tapped into the full capabilities of the these two next gen consoles. Ps5 is especially true with so many ps4 still out there it takes away from the current generation. All this backwards capabilities, I care about the console that I'm using know not 3 years ago, sorry 4.

This game reminds me a lot of Rebel Galaxy (2015), a space sim where you also play mostly as your ship (more like as your ship). I dare say that Skull And Bones could have probably dropped the whole on foot gameplay and be more like Rebel Galaxy where actions at hubs/towns are options in menus instead of free roaming, but I do like the treasure searching and the stalls where NPCs gather do provide a village like touch to these locations, specially in the endgame where some NPCs get additional interactions for a particular gameplay system. Ship combat feels great, specially once you get out of the culverin (standard cannon) comfort zone and start experimenting with other weapons, which come with their own quirks, not just between cannon types, that include scatter ones, explosive ones with arching trajectories and even straight firing large ballistas, but specialized variants with traits such as a single concentrated shot instead of the standard 3 shots of a bombardier, and ones with burning or flooding effects, which can have additional synergy with particular ships and furniture (equipment with diverse effects) for more specialized builds. Aside from combat, gathering resources for building gear and even outright cash from wreckages are available all over the place. Although the game has a minigame for these, since I frequently try to loot everything on my path to another location, I enabled the function that skips the minigame and does it automatically (think of Skyrim mining and you will get a good idea). You can get some bonuses from doing it manually (a furniture further increases it), but I prefer leaving that to my crew and instead open my map to see what is going while the looting/gathering is taking place. If grabbing stuff from the map isn’t your thing, you are in luck: in many cases you can instead head to particular locations to buy them, steal them altogether… or even both: go to a town, buy their stock and then plunder it for getting more out of it. A few of the endgame resources are not buyable and will require taking down a fort or hunting ships with the items on their trading routes. Seasonal enemies (current one being Plague/poison themed) provide some extra variety, though I do am concerned that some of these high level enemies seem to also sail around the starting game areas. Admittedly there are some late & endgame task to do there to, but when I was lower level I once ran into one of these enemies while plundering a low level town and got killed quick. Fortunately, these enemies are also trying to pick fight with other NPCs ships, so once you know of them, it’s not too hard to avoid them while they are busy attacking someone else. My favorite enemy so far is a recently added special ghost ship boss with very unique mechanics, including teleporting and “organic growths” that function as weak points to make the rest of the ship vulnerable. Taking down forts is also quite challenging, though there do is a menu option in their icon to call for help to take them out. Things I didn’t like: the Dhow as an own able extra small ship. This thing should have been an outpost or town only ship for doing the wildlife hunting minigame. It’s not terrible as a means to switch things around, but you don’t want to go around through the world map in this thing. Worst part? There are a few parts of the map that seem to be designed to be only traversable with the Dhow due to its size to fit through very narrow sections. Nothing unique AFAIK, but makes me concerned they might want to add more extra small ships and incentives to use them. Speaking of ship sizes, currently only small & medium ships are available to players, though enemy large ships are already around, supposedly still being worked around. Medium ships have better stats than small ones, so I guess it makes sense to save them for when the ship level cap increases, but I dare say it is everyone number one request at this time. I will conclude saying that I don’t honk this game needs on foot combat: Elite Dangerous was for 7 years a ship only game, and when they introduced on foot combat with the Odyssey update, that basically killed their playerbase. For extra context, the first iteration of S&B shown to the public was a 5vs5 ship arena multiplayer, so it does seem that the focus was on ships only from the start, making the little on foot gameplay we have likely the result of people asking for some such gameplay that probably wasn’t part of the original scope. Lastly, I will mention that much like in Rebel Galaxy, a single player game, I have mostly played S&B solo. I don’t like PVP and I’m glad to say that so far it seems entirely avoidable. Some content is intended for co-op, and ways to coordinate that aside from plundering (which already has a support request option) need work. Devs do are being responsive and have been making several updates so far. Overall I can greatly recommend it, specially if you liked Rebel Galaxy.

This game is the reason my house burned down and why I was an orphan. I played this game in front of my wife and now I'm being divorced and she wants the kids. I would honestly sell off my right testicle just to be able to not play this game. The devs were clearly on crack when they made this. I hope the studio shuts down. Please help, I hate this game, I would break the laws of physics just to be able to put a lower score than a 0 out of 10.

It could be incredible but they needed pistols, swords, on land exploration for treasure and fighting. As it is I’ve sunk high end game cash into a game as shallow as Fortnite. Having massive purchasers regret - good to buy in a sale but don’t waste your money on full price I’ve not played it since two weeks after it came out
