It's a horrifying action/adventure that will set the pulse racing and put the mind on constant alert.
With multiple endings, secrets and hidden items you'll find replay value deep within the game.

From the inexplicable sobbing of an unseen child in a blood-stained school hall to the loud rattling of an invisible "something" underneath the floorboards that you're standing on, the game never sinks into predictability. Imagine all of this while never quite being able to see past arm's length into the darkness.

Even though it’s from the PlayStation 1 and its graphics can’t compare to modern games, for me it’s one of the best horror video games and it still scares me.

Seems like yesterday being scared to go to school the next day (3rd grade) after playing SH on demo disc 16. The game was revolutionary at the time and still holds up today. Was nice to come back and play this after having endured the dei leftist fever dream Silent Hill imposter known as Silent Hill F.

Silent Hill was a landmark for the survival horror genre, with a deep story and a amazing soundtrack. The city is large and has an impressive level of detail for its time, even with hardware limitations. It manages to create a city and explorable environments full of details, all in 3D. The game shines in capturing the terrifying and bizarre atmosphere surrounding the city and all explorable environments, a fog enveloping the entire city along with the sound emitted by the radio and an impeccable sound design that conveys the feeling of terror, mystery, tension, and the supernatural. All the rust, blood, and gore scattered throughout the otherworld scenarios are very well detailed, brutal, striking, and always uncomfortable to explore. Harry's movements are more realistic, and with a distance-dependent shooting system, Harry will hit or miss more shots, an interesting detail considering he has no experience with weapons. The dynamic camera and strategic positioning give it a much more cinematic feel, perfectly matching the psychological horror atmosphere. The biggest flaws are the terrible character controls; the camera controls are also terrible, failing to focus on what's in front of Harry in enclosed environments with enemies, resulting in unnecessary damage; hardware problems (exploration in many open city scenarios is frustrated by significant frame rate drops, such as in the resort area at night after the sewers); the very poor voice acting of all the characters (common at the time but still a flaw); being a survival horror game with no stricter item limit, the survival challenge is significantly reduced, inventory management is inherent to the survival horror genre, which is completely lost here. The game lacks important information for a better understanding of the story; there should be more files scattered throughout for better contextualization. There are very few files throughout the game, and in all the cutscenes/conversations in the game, few have a real impact on explaining the lore behind the events in the city of Silent Hill. There is also a lack of a "memo" system to save files already read in the menu to be read later; older games like Resident Evil 1 and 2 already had this feature. Overall, it's a great horror game, but with notable flaws. It was a great precursor to an excellent franchise that would develop in the following years.

The various flaws (like horrible voice acting, odd attack control, and hyper-linear gameplay) keep it from earning a perfect rating. But it's a worthy successor to "Resident Evil."

If you thought that "Resident Evil" was scary, well let me just tell you Resident Evil is akin to Disney's Bambi compared to this... If you want a game that will surely help you soil your undies kids, than Silent Hill is what you want!

Go buy Silent Hill, pour yourself a strong drink, turn out all the lights, and immerse yourself in the sickness. It's a hell of a lot better than going to see the latest Wes Craven movie.

Those looking for the intense action of RE may be disappointed. If disturbing atmosphere is your thing, with an emphasis on 3D exploration and puzzle solving, then SH will be worth a whirl.

No game will freak you as much as this game, and I truly believe you will enjoy it no matter what genre you're into most. If you don't have this game, buy it, and while you're there, pick up a set of briefs. You'll need em'!!

Cool atmosphere and soundtrack. The story is fine, but considering the year it was made ig it's good then.

Imagine some cottage cheese dumped out on the sidewalk for 20 years. That's how well this game has aged. It was probably good when it came out, but it's a chore to play now.

One of the worst games or dare I say the worst game I have ever had the displeasure of playing in my long 18 years of playing video games, even though I had emulated the game for free and got it to run at 4k nothing would ever return the time I had wasted on this **** of a match. Quite simply, there is nothing that makes this enjoyable and I mean nothing, I had more fun studying for my calculus final than I had playing this **** story is so **** it should be classified as a biohazard, the gameplay is like operating a banana, the difficulty of this game stems from poor controls and one-shot kills, and what makes this game longer than hours is the distance between each savepoint, the pacing is so horrible and the characters so boring and the music is like scratching a chalkboard and the sound effects are borrowed from a Charlie Chaplin, and the radio itself is like sticking wooden stake that goes through your brain and into your pain receptor.
