Played tons on mobile since around 2019, and played on Steam once it was released.
One of the best traditional and actual Rogue-Likes there is out there, and there is so many good features. It feels good to play, die, learn, repeat until you master mechanics on identification and navigation.
Even though a lot has been added, and it's changed from it's original project, it doesn't feel bloated or forced, and there is an active community. It feels weird that it doesn't feel super well known to this day for how good of a Roguelike it is.

**** Pixel Dungeon (and Pixel Dungeon mods as a whole) are some of the most interesting mobile games to talk about, seeing as just how contradictory it is to mobile gaming culture. The current meta for mobile games is so **** awful, that calling mobile gaming "gaming" at all is laughable. Modern mobile games couldn't give two **** about fun. There goal is to create an addicting gameplay loop to drag you through as many ads and microtransactions as possible. The days of Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies is over. The goal is to milk you of every dime and inkling of time you got. Its not evil, its business. As you could probably gather by now, ShPD doesn't do this. Sure, it costs money on the iOS app store, but there are plenty of other ways to download it for free. And after that, theres bliss. No microtransactions that effect gameplay. No ads. Not even an encouragement from the game to spend money. It solely relies on donations and patreon to be ROI positive. Its so polite about monetization, that you might feel like donating just because they ask so nicely (I know I did). But its still completely optional, and you can play this game without ever giving it money. Its such a noble change of pace from **** voodoo is doing. But enough about money. Is ShPD actually a good game? **** yes! ShPD is a rougelike in its truest form and has a pretty steep learning curb. But once you master the basics, this game is an absolute blast. The original PD is not exactly a *bad* game, but its extremely unbalanced and has alot of **** mechanics. ShPD is a more well rounded experience that is tough yet fair. Because of the randomized nature of Rougelikes, ShPD (and other Pixel Dungeon mods) have quite a bit of replay value, though they can get a bit stale after a while. But ShPD is a game that is constantly being updated by its devolper, and this game can be really fun to come back to after a while and see all the changes. Overall, if you can play this game, PLEASE do. Even if it doesn't blow you away, the mear fact that the game put fun over profits is respectable enough to at least give it a try.
