I've owned a bunch o Sakura games for a while now, and since Spirit was the first one they've made, I decided it would be my first dive into the franchise. It might've been a bad choice because it was a disappointment and now I'm not really looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Obviously it's a Visual Novel, and yes the Visual part of it is indeed very pleasing to the eye. While the design choices of side characters might be subjectively poor (the main cast is fine,) the quality of the pictures won't disappoint a typical anime fan. The Novel part is the problem here. First of all, this is not a kinetic novel but it might as well be one. There is only a single choice during the entire playthrough. It's near the end so one would think that it's a choice that decides how the story would end, or something akin to that, but no, there is only one ending; the choice itself couldn't be more inconsequential even if it tried; the scenes that are separated by that choice are completely trivial and don't amount to anything in the plot, serving only as a short breather before the plot actually starts. There's absolutely no reason for that choice to exist, other than to make it seem more like a "game" I guess... Second, and much more important than that, is the plot itself which is sub-par at the very best, and rather than tell an actual story, it lists off ecchi/harem anime tropes as if the entire script was just one big checklist. All girls falling for the Mary Sue Protagonist pretty much immediately after meeting him? Check. Hot springs scene? Check. Fanservice scenes like girls getting covered in slime or getting their clothes wet? Check. Walking in on someone changing clothes? Check, check. Protagonist tripping over nothing and falling on barely dressed girls? Check, check, check. Oh, and yes, this is an Isekai story, because of course it is. Finally, one more point, which actually became a dealbreaker for me. This Visual Novel is very short, clocking in under 2 hours. Of course, I don't mind short stories and that in itself wouldn't be a problem, but the reason behind it is. This novel is so short because as it turns out, it's only a prologue. Chapter One for a story that 6 years later still doesn't have a sequel, and it's pretty much certain at this point that it never will.

ENG The first game in the same genre and style for me. Actually I'm not a fan of this, but the rest, smaka the space bar while reading the text with a clear bias and stare at the floor Frank drawn art, why not. For a first attempt it is not bad.

The story wasn't great, the mechanics are simply clicking to continue and you make one almost meaningless choice. The game only lasts 2-3 hours and its main selling point is its soft-core artwork. But despite this, Sakura Spirit wasn't a chore but rather a memorable experience. Yes its flawed, and very heavily at that but the witty side comments by the protagonist and the humorous situations he inevitably finds for himself make this one of the more enjoyable anime games on steam.

I thought it was a game, but it wasn't. All you can do is to keep clicking for reading. Your finger gets sore. Near the end, it finally gives you two choices. It took only 1.1 hours if you are really into reading. It says it has nudity, but it's dishonesty to rob your money. It drops trading cards very, very slow, so I had to repeat it thrice to collect all the cards. It's one of the worst games I ever played since I first played PC game back in '98.

A very beautiful art, decent music, but the story is not that great, it tries to be serious, but all that panty and boobs stuff breaks the seriousness. Not sure what the devs wanted to deliver: a good story or lots of ecchi, but the ending says it's just the beginning.

Its.....alright? I guess?I mean, comparing it to other Visual Novels, SS is kinda lacking...a lot. Which is really disappointing because it had a lot of potential for a longer, more gripping storyline and romance/story arcs but fails to capitalize on any of them. The story is pitifully short; it's entertaining, but too short to be satisfying. Not really a good sign for a Visual Novel, a game genre where it relies heavily on the story. It starts out well and you start to think its going to lead you somewhere great but kinda burns out by the last hour of the game and completely obliterates into oblivion by the ending. Its like the storyboard directors just said **** it, thinking's hard, publish it anyway. I'm sure the boobs and foxgirls will compensate for the lack of a complete story". The ending also has sequel-bait tone. I'm not sure if Sekai Project's going to make another sequel for it (although with how bad this thing is currently holding in terms of reviews, not sure they're going to make one.). Ohh, and the lack of a romance option pisses me off to no end, I want to beat the cellulite out of the person who decided that feature wasn't worth implementing at least. The main characters have a fair amount of development, but only far enough not to be considered utter cardboard cutouts. Which is again, a shame, because they had a potential for something better, which wasn't capitalized upon. As for hentai parts? No Adult-tier nudes, really. You get nudity, but no nips or genitalia. Again, a shame. All in all, not really worth the full price of $9.99. I can name a few more eroge VNs that are better both in the story department and hentai department. Slashed down to 25% and lower? It kinda starts to be a bit more attractive if you got nothing else to spend on and want a few hours of laughter. It'll give you a hour of a laugh....although it kinda leaves you wanting for more, a lot more.

This game is a bit mislabeled on Steam: there is actually no nudity or explicit sexual dialog, I would say it's partial nudity and suggestive language, so it's not really a mature title - it's still NSFW I'd say. This actually should not matter since this is a visual novel. Visual novels are simple in structure and are story-heavy, they can in many cases be done with a tool like Ren'Py, so all the game designer has to do is to add story, graphics, sound and decisions. Unfortunately, the story is quite boring, so the 3-4 hours play time is a plus. While funny and very well drawn, the characters are very stereotypical and flat. The story often references popular video games, but it actually doesn't matter. The player literally has only one decision to make in the game that does not have any consequence other than displaying different graphics for the main characters. At the end the games says it's to be continued, but honestly, I don't think it matters.

Overall, it was a decent visual novel. It wasn't that long (about 3.5 hours), but it had cute characters and... Well, that's pretty much it. People will tell you: 'I bought cuz boobs.' But if that's the only reason, you might as well just watch hentai because there is no 'nudity.' This game is for the story, which was solid. 7/10
