Gorgeous HD remasters of the GameCube's "Resident Evil" and "Resident Evil 0". The remake is the better of the two and is the definitive version of the original game. But Capcom added Wesker Mode to the prequel. In it, you play as Albert Wesker (complete with T-Virus abilities) instead of Billy Cohen. It's a little like playing as Virgil in the Special Editions of the "Devil May Cry" games. Although both titles are available digitally, it's great to have them on one disc. I'd rate this collection with an 8.3 out of 10.

As my first encounter with the original RE games I must say that they were ahead of their time.

Resident Evil Origins Collection is a fully remastered edition of Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0. In Resident Evil, players will choose to play as Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, members of the S.T.A.R.S. team, sent on a mission to find Team Bravo. In Resident Evil 0, S.T.A.R.S. send Team Bravo to investigate unusual murders. Bravo member Rebecca Chambers meets ex-Navy lieutenant Billy Coen: players will be able to control the duo Rebecca and Billy by changing them.

Pros - one of the best level designs in gaming for both games - ridiculous value when it comes to content to price ratio - genuinely tense moments on higher difficulties - fun to learn and dominate after your first playthrough // Cons - the constantly switching camera angles often mess up movement during high tension moments - Resident Evil 0 has the worst inventory system I experienced in a while // Both the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0 are extremely fun to learn and get a platinum trophy. There are some miss steps, especially in RE0 but overall both of these games are worthwhile to 100%. One of the strongest parts of both of these games is just how good it feels to plan a route to items you need and then executing the route perfectly. Knowing there are three zombies and a hunter you need to avoid to get some bullets and a key item and then navigating the route perfectly without taking damage feels exhilarating. The upgrades you get for weapons feel substantial and the higher difficulties actually change how you evaluate certain items and the lengths you are willing to go through to obtain them. It is genuinely crazy how much risk assessment you learn to do once you master these games. The issues come once you look at movement though. As much risk assessment as you can do and as perfectly as you can plan a route, there are certain areas that feel designed to mess you up. The fixed camera angles often screw you up since they can change on a dime and completely turn around your sense of direction, sending you right into an enemy. Resident Evil 0 also decides to get rid of item boxes and instead forces you to drop your items on the ground. A horrible decision really since once you need to pick something up, you will awkwardly shimmy around the item only for the character to pick up something else. It adds so much unnecessary time to that game and gets really annoying on the second and every future playthrough. Overall, I had good times with both RE and RE0. Not perfect, but good. If you enjoy semi challenging platinums or if you want to see the start of an iconic series, this collection is fantastic, especially for the price you can find it today.

Very nice visuals, but tank controls, general area shooting, bad cameras, & poor ammo dispersement against updated & more difficult enemies, holds this one back, for me. If this would've existed before the original RE4, the controls, at least, would've still made sense. If they do "quality of life" remakes/remasters of these,I'd buy it.

Found myself really enjoying these two games in the HD remaster. Zero in particular I found myself hooked until completing it. The puzzles were fun and engaging and the combat is still good even in todays standards. Voice acting in this era is wasn’t the best by any means but it’s still better than some other games during this era lol

RE: Origins Collection is still the closest thing we have to a proper original Resident Evil remake but it is still an amazing title worthy of a near perfect score. If you are a survival horror fan and have somehow never picked this up stop reading right now and just go and buy this game. The only minor things that stop this game from getting a perfect score from me is that some of the pre-rendered artwork scenes have clearly just been put through some filters rather than being re-made which does cause visual inconsistencies and the menus have some rather horrible colour banding issues, the latter of these problems at least I would have though could be fixed for the ports to PC, Switch, XBOne and PS4, but nope. If you are craving a classic survival horror experience made with pre-rendered backdrops this is probably the last game that did it and masterfully done it was. There is still something you get from an artists high resolution static backdrop that you just can't accurately create and portray in a fully 3D environment and as the last game of a now dead game design concept you owe it to yourself to play the finest example of where art, imagination, and 3D combine seemlessly.

What is Capcom to do with the Resident Evil series? Should they revamp it, or keep going with their current continuity? Neither in fact they decided they’d rather re-release all the same games we’ve already played; oddly I’m okay with that. Hello everyone B-rod here to with some reasons on why the Resident Evil Origins collection is not a half bad of a buy. Now before I get into this any further I am not a huge Resident Evil fan. I honestly have only played about five of the bazillion games to have come out, and not all the way to the end might I add. If you happen to be a purest or think I missed something about either of these two games then you are not wrong. So let’s find out how wrong I am. This collect for those who may have missed it is a forty dollar package that includes the HD version of Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0. I have played both of these back in the day so was curious if my skills have gotten better with age or atrophied. What I found out is I’ve gotten better, but have little patience for **** Let me dive into what I mean so I started with Resident Evil, and was moving right along until I picked up a shield key and was lost on what to do. For those who may not know the first Resident Evil is a **** with inventory, and it just so happens that this shield key took up my last slot. Now in a normal game (even older ones) if you fill up your inventory there is some way to drop the item. Not in good ole Resident Evil. No in this game it allowed me to get **** over in the FIRST **** 15 MINUTES. Not a huge problem if I didn’t wonder the mansion for over an hour looking for the one door that this key went to. So I restarted the game and figured out where I was going by using a walkthrough which royally pissed me off. Let us just say I didn’t stick with Resident Evil for very long. Resident Evil 0 however was a blast. It was the good old school gameplay without the pain in the ass inventory clogging. Now it still has a limited inventory, but it at least lets you drop the **** you may not need at the moment. I made some good progress in this game much further than I did as a kid, and was glued to the screen. Unlike the first game with 0 I only had to use a walkthrough once to figure out what to do with the grapple gun. There are some issues with 0 that I need to bring up. Your AI partner will either waste their ammo shooting at everything that looks funny, or stand there and get their ass eaten alive. The other thing is present in both is the damned door load screen. Now I understand nostalgia reasons for having it, but who honestly misses that about Resident Evil? I never hear anyone think fondly of the **** door opening. On the PS4 it really is unacceptable, there is no way that game actually needs to load at all it should be open a door and in the next room. Now I will gloss over the story for a couple of reasons. First, most have seen the story many times. Secondly the story in both is **** dumb. The first Resident Evil is you play as either Chris or Jill as part of the S.T.A.R.S. task force and are chased inside this mansion filled with zombies and obituary keys. Then find out it is all made by the Umbrella Corporation blah, blah, blah. Resident Evil 0 is a prequel where you play as Rebecca the rookie and Billy the convict, and you are on a train full of zombies that bring you back to that annoying Mansion, because you can’t have a whole game on a train apparently. Overall if you dug the old Resident Evil games this is a no brainer, and you probably already own it. For those who are new rent, rent, rent. This is not for everyone the camera and controls are old school. You know about the **** off inventory. If you think games do too much hand holding now in days how about you give this a whorl and see if this is more up to your speed. In the end $40 for two games isn’t a bad deal. I give this a 3.5 out of 5.

Coming off the back of the recent disappoint RE2R I was still looking for a good RE fix with the Resident Evil remake. The static environment art style looks a lot better than RE2R to point RE2R art style looked plastic in comparison. The music set a good creepy tone and the lighting effects created a really spooky look to it all. VA and dialogue no better or worse than RER2. Story is again just action heroes versus all manner of freaky created by the mad science of a evil corporation. Combat could be annoying at times due to not being able to see what I was shooting off camera. Those turbo zombies were a right old pain in the arse. Combat was more simplified, but this type of old school RE was more about exportation and puzzles. Which had a lot more puzzles to do than RER2. The usual limited inventory and back tracking to chest to store/resupply was the same pain in the arse like RER2. I really like the new additional movement style and that really helped make this game less a frustrating experience compared to say RE4 and even RE5 movement scheme. I got what I expected with this style of remake, but I expected far more with the RER2 remake. So I am not disappointed in this, but neither am I blown away. Resident Evil 0 I have next to zero interest and totally forgot this game existed until this collection jogged my memory. The Resident Evil remake was enough for me to get this collection alone.

Stock up on those green herbs and order yourself a Jill Sandwich because Resident Evil is back! For the first time ever, both Resident Evil Remake and Resident Evil 0 are available together on disk outside of Nintendo consoles. Remake tasks players with revisiting the Spencer mansion and rediscovering the origins of the infamous Umbrella Company. Longtime fans of the series will not be disappointed as they are taken down memory lane to find it has been given a substantial visual and audio overhaul; as well as the option to change the control scheme from the old cumbersome tank feel, to a more fluid modernized style. You won't find any linear chapters to power through here. Resident Evil (Remake) The old mansion is just how I remembered it but with a few new caveats where I least expected them. This time around, we're treated to improved camera angles, adjusted lighting, and a complete overhaul of background textures and character models for a more immersive experience. As an added bonus, RE5 skins for both Chris and Jill are available from the start. Some small cut scenes however were not given an upgrade, and still remain grainy from the original release. Although somewhat jarring, the original rendered sequences still hold up to this day and serve as a nice throwback to longtime fans without breaking my immersion. While the overall structure of the game has not been changed, Remake includes new enemies to handle as well as new puzzles that kept me retracing my steps for clues and solutions. Another great addition is the inclusion of defense items. These are found throughout the game to give you the ability to parry an enemy attack. Initially, I was concerned that these items would take away from the overall suspense due to the decrease in my vulnerability. This is not the case as it quickly became clear that this time around, enemies are significantly more aggressive and harder to dodge than I had previously remembered. Additionally, I was very pleased to see that Capcom also decided to carry over the Lisa Trevor subplot from the 2007 Wii exclusive, "The Umbrella Chronicles". This not only gave me answers as to what really happened to the Trevor family, but added a new emotional layer to the story. As a longtime fan of the original release, it was clear that Capcom was listening to the fan base when it came time for improvements and additions for Remake. And they delivered. Resident Evil 0 Resident Evil 0 is considered by many to be one of the weaker installments of the franchise with it's fair share of criticism. This is due not only to poor implementation of the classic tank controls, but from the drastic change made to the item management system in general. Without item boxes, you must assume the roles of both Rebecca and Billy. The two characters swap items between their inventories, leading you to drop and retrieve items everywhere in the game as needed. At times, switching between the two characters for puzzles feels a bit unnecessary as much as it is inconvenient. RE:0 has still been given both a visual and audio upscale. Despite the upgrade, new voice overs were not recorded as with the original as I had hoped. With new high resolution textures and enhanced character models, RE:0 stays true to its original release. Because this is a remaster rather than a remake, RE:0 was not given new gameplay or storytelling features as is the case with its predecessor. Resident Evil Origins Collection manages to recreate the atmospheric dread that these games were well known for in the 90s. The storytelling and horror tropes of the classic Resident Evil games still hold up today; with the improved graphics and mechanics, younger generations are quick to understand why these games are still a big deal in the gaming community. Whether you’re a stalwart fan of the originals or are new to the series, Origins delivers when it comes to classic survival horror. With the newly announced remake of Resident Evil 2 in the works, Origins gives me hope for what Capcom has in store for us. With two iconic games in one, this collection is truly a great value that belongs on your shelf. ________________________________________ Score 8/10 + Atmospheric survival horror, a rare commodity in the AAA gaming industry these days + Great story that is a must play for fans of later installments + Beautiful environments and architecture + Multiple difficulty settings for veteran players and newcomers alike + New game plus for unlocked weapons + Long overdue shot of nostalgia +/- Cheesy Dialogue - Dated mechanics may alienate new players - Fixed camera angles - Inventory micromanaging Recommended for: fans of zombie shooters like The Evil Within, Silent Hill, Alan Wake, Dead Space, or for zombie movie lovers.

If you skipped these games during the GameCube era or was introduced to the series after Resident Evil 4 and never tried the old games, i would recommend this compilation; mainly for the remake of the first Resident Evil, that's still beautiful and a blast to play. A classic survival horror gem! While Resident Evil Zero is a decent one, the protagonists lack charisma and the terrible inventory system demands the player to backtrack too much, making the gameplay feel tiresome. It's not for everyone! So Resident Evil Remake gets a 9 and Resident Evil Zero a 7, so the package score is an 8 :)

Terrible, por un momento pensé que haría explotar la playstation 4, cualquier juego en versión play es bastante malo o quizás es la consola la que de por sí hace tanto ruido que parece que está a punto de explotar, no lo sé.

The GameCube remake of Resident Evil was amazing, and this HD remaster is fantastic eye candy for this fan of the franchise. While Resident Evil Zero was a fine game as well, the real star is the REmake. Both games look and play great, and is well worth the asking price if you are a fan of how the series used to be before it became more action focused and less survival horror based.
