PowerSlave Exhumed brings back a mid-1990s FPS classic, one of the most refreshing and innovative games of its time. This adaptation to the modern era is a remarkable work that captures the very best of the original, and works smoothly and with great controls on the Nintendo Switch today. This classic with emphasis on action and exploration provides a marvelous ambiance that surrounds the player and shows how the original was ahead of its time. Strongly recommended for all FPS fans.

Will you like PowerSlave Exhumed? Well, if you have played the genre's greats, or even its cult classics, you won't find it to be something special. It's a good shooter, no doubt about it, and the fact that it sort of plays like Metroid Prime many years before the latter saw the light of day is quite the feat, but at the end of the day it's just a decent-to-good FPS. If you view it strictly as a remaster, though, it's something more. It combines the best elements from all its versions, beautifies it a bit for the modern era, and adds all the typical buttons and levers that Nightdive tends to include in its fantastic repackagings. More like a collector's item than a great blast from the past, but boy, what a collector's item!

It’s such a rare occurrence for a game to age this well when it comes to its gameplay. And being able to re-experience this jewel on modern platforms is a special kind of treat. An absolute evergreen, full of fast and fun activities and dozens of secrets that make you go „yay“ every time you discover one. A huge recommendation, if you can get past the old school graphics and level design.

The game aged surprisingly well. It is intuitively understandable, smooth, and hard enough. I am amazed that it was released such a long time ago. Music is great, weapons are cool, the sequence of locations is also cool. Not a linear shooter.

Dieses Spiel war seiner Zeit weit voraus und steht den großen Klassikern in nichts nach. Während die Mechanik des automatischen Zielens (Auto-Aim) noch stark an DOOM erinnerte, setzten das unverbrauchte Setting und die Waffenvielfalt völlig neue Akzente.
Design und Technik
Was anfangs wie ein recht starres Leveldesign wirkt, entpuppt sich zunehmend als ein meisterhaft konstruiertes Labyrinth aus Gängen und Räumen, das trotz steigender Komplexität nie die Übersichtlichkeit verliert. Besonders hervorzuheben ist das für damals revolutionäre Feature, frei nach oben und unten schauen zu können – eine Seltenheit in der Ära der 2.5D-Shooter. Auch das Trefferfeedback war für die damalige Zeit grandios und vermittelte ein direktes, wuchtiges Spielgefühl.
Gameplay-Loop und Progression
Die Suche nach dem finalen Raum durch das Finden passender Schlüssel ist harmonisch in den Spielfluss integriert. Dieses durchdachte System hält den Spieler bei der Stange und sorgt für ein echtes Erfolgserlebnis, wenn man den Ausgang eines fordernden Abschnitts erreicht.
Der Kritikpunkt: Das Speichersystem
Ein Wermutstropfen bleibt jedoch das inkonsistente Checkpoint-System. In manchen Leveln findet man gefühlt in jedem zweiten Raum einen Scarabäus zum Speichern, während in anderen Abschnitten nur zwei Speicherpunkte in enormen Abständen platziert sind. Dies wirkt wie eine bewusste Entscheidung der Entwickler, um den Schwierigkeitsgrad künstlich zu erhöhen oder die Spielzeit zu strecken – ein Problem, das viele Titel dieser Ära teilten, oft auch aufgrund technischer Limitierungen der damaligen Konsolen-Hardware.
Fazit: Wer DOOM oder Duke Nukem 3D liebt, kommt hier voll auf seine Kosten. Dank der Überarbeitung durch Nightdive Studios wurde diese fast vergessene Perle des Genres perfekt für moderne Systeme gerettet.

Прошел игру powerslave exhumed на пк. Это ремастер очень старого консольного бумер шутера на первую плойку, сама игра на движке очень похожем на классический движок билд, может это он и есть. Эту игру можно назвать предком серьёзного Сэма так как она первая придумала шутер в древнеегипетском сеттинге со всеми вытекающими, так что сеттинг, враги и локации тут очень прикольные. Здесь много оружия, оно разное и интересное, однако крупная его часть почти бесполезна и пулемет м60 который ты получаешь почти в самом начале самый эффективный ствол по сути. В игре реализовали удивительную фичу – элементы метроидвании, периодически получая всякие перки придется возвращаться с уровня на уровень, чтобы собрать всякие ништяки, фича спорная для шутера, однако реализовано очень неплохо. Однако, произвольных сохранений тут нет, так как игра консольная, лишь чекпоинты. В целом, игра простенькая, любителям классических бумер шутеров, пропустивших её в своё время, советую 6/10.

"I’m pleased to say that Nightdive has done it again! They’ve taken another classic, and polished it up for the modern era with some nice additions. Considering this gem was once only on older consoles, this remaster is made all the more welcome. There’s some minor omissions for sure, but this is a game you will want to add to your collection. Honestly, it's tempting to give Powerslave a 10 just for being available again, but no. That would, of course, be naughty. Here it is, though, in even more than all its glory — a brilliant, beautiful reworking that captures the very essence of what made it so awesome back in the day while giving the best of both the Saturn and PlayStation's distinct versions. For such a prototypical take on Metroid Prime, it's alarming and impressive just how much confidence Powerslave Exhumed shows in its design, making it the best kind of retro game — one that's even better today with full knowledge of how ahead of its time it really was. An easy recommendation to FPS fans of any vintage, Powerslave Exhumed will keep you playing and playing, searching for those last niggling secrets.

Playing PowerSlave: Exhumed today, it’s clear that the game is deserving of more critical and commercial success than it achieved in the 90s. It’s a lot of fun; a retro FPS that feels entirely relevant on the Switch. Highly recommended.

Exhumed Powerslave is not one of the best first person shooters of the mid-nineties, but has more than enough interesting ideas to be worthy of retrospection. Just make sure you go in with a sufficient amount of patience.

As Good as the original on Saturn. Witch was very very Good. Exhumed is a Fps metroidvania. A Good control, Very reactive, unique egyptian ambiance. The remaster is very close to the original one.
Even if it offers à large palette of options to set the game how you want it to be… A very very Good entrey to e Switch catalogue!
