They literally don't make them like this anymore. I'm always saddened by the fact that the Ogre Battle Saga was abandoned. The later games pioneered the excellent Tactical games, but these original RTS games were masterful. Building units and issuing orders and tactics always felt like a better simulation of battlefield generalship than the PC based RTS games that relied on micro management of individual units, or focused on production economy. The fact that your units grew and improved over time between missions made them feel like "Your Army" rather than a collection of bodies you throw at your enemy. A nearly perfect experience, and the old school art style is still charming more than two decades later.
