Challenging, beautiful and unique. [Issue#105, p.82]

The small, scattered levels live in the shadows of the Souls/Bloodborne worlds. Otherwise, Nioh matches - and occasionally surpasses - FromSoftware's genre giants. [Apr 2017, p.77]

After a series of letdowns Team Ninja returns to form it displayed with Ninja Gaiden Black. Nioh is a variation on the Souls series, and although it is not as intriguing story wise, its gameplay is much more enjoyable. [04/2017, p.46]

Jogabilidade extremamente precisa e uma excelente curva de aprendizagem. O ponto negativo fica somente por conta dos gráficos. Um Sous Like rapido e dinâmico. Com certeza valeu a pena cada minuto que investi no jogo.

The good: the mechanics are good, although changing stance does not really matter. I love the bosses, they are so varied and interesting. The Yokai are fun to fight, and the Japanese folklore that comes with them is fun to explore. The average: the story is meh, and there are no new enemies after the fourth region. After the initial phase, the game becomes very repetitive. Same maps, same enemies. The bad: some ambush mechanics should not happen if I am invisible, the game breaks its own rules. Talking about ambushes, this game overuses them to the point where they make no sense. Some Yokai will not move, have a big rock next to them, and throw it at you if you get in their path. Some ninjas will stay on the ceiling and wait for you. Really? Is that their life, waiting 24/7 suspended on a ceiling for a guy? This game also overuses one-shot mechanics. It is not like Dark Souls or Elden Ring. In these games, if you invest in Vigor, your character will eventually become tanky. Not in Nioh. Even after investing in defense, many mechanics will still be a one-shot. Another annoyance is that it is possible to rebind the controls, but it messes up the menus when rebinding the top buttons. I do not understand how that was overlooked. Finally, the difficulty is all over the place. Sometimes it goes without issues, and then all of a sudden, the difficulty ramps up to 100 for no reason. If you look at the stats on Steam, only 50% of players complete the third mission of the game.

Hellishly challenging and entertaining tribute to the From Software games. The authors didn´t copy the originals – on the contrary they weren´t afraid of many drastic changes. So, the overall experience was pushed in a big way in a different direction. [Issue#272]

Team Ninja has overcome the inevitable comparisons with Souls' series, with a game that shines on its own right. Diverse and enjoyable combat mechanics, great setting and that characteristic difficulty of the studio's games, Nioh is a strong candidate for one of the best games of 2017.

My favorite Soul's game barring FROM's own catalogue. Awesome little game! I love it!

Nioh is easily the best action RPG I’ve played in some time. It may take some time to get into the swing of it’s melee combat, and the first level doesn’t make a good impression, but anyone looking for some engrossing hack-and-slash combat should pick this up with Nioh hesitation.

Nioh will break you down (and note this clearly, this is an uncompromising game that does not mind crushing your dreams) before it lifts you up, but you soon crave the thrill of mastering a new weapon or toppling a titanic boss. Endless optimization and customization, engaging encounters, and unparalleled combat by yourself or with a friend make Nioh an excellent choice for your next dark action/RPG.

The game wears its influences on its sleeve, but also puts forth a Herculean effort toward surpassing them.

Cheat Code Central
The game’s grindy premise has been exhausted for what seems like decade and will leave you feeling more defeated than anything else. The combat mechanics are certainly worth noticing, but the environment restricts them, making it a wash. Do yourself a favor and pass on this compilation of recycled concepts and frustrating gameplay.

The first stage was an absolute blast—fighting demons on an island, engaging in intense battles, and having a challenging yet rewarding way to level up. The atmosphere, the combat, and the overall experience were incredibly fun and immersive. Then came the second stage… and wow, the difficulty spike was insane. The boss wipes you out in two hits, making it feel almost unfair. I don’t even know what to say—it went from an enjoyable challenge to borderline frustrating. That being said, the combat system itself is phenomenal. For a samurai-based game, it truly delivers on fluid, skill-based combat that feels both strategic and satisfying. If only the difficulty curve was a bit more balanced, it would be a perfect experience.

Good game, good graphics, Ninja Gaiden style, with very difficult bosses at the end.

Another miserable game from Team Ninja held back by being imbalanced and slow with poor pacing. The control scheme is weird with no option to make O dodge instead of X... which alone ruins the experience for me. A LOT of grinding needed to progress, but not enough to keep me interested.
