After 28 hours in Mhs3 I'll say this as a returning player whose favorite 3ds game was mhs1. Excuse me if I sound all over the place. No block with great sword.
I take too much damage from monsters whilst also having no way to upgrade armor. My partners do more damage and take less than me. And having one in battle is a basically a must.
No multiplayer in a franchise where multiplayer and guilds have been the main focal point. No dueling despite perfecting the rite of channeling. No dungeon exploring with other players.
They reintroduced elemental changes in monsties. A mechanic that was a favorite for most in the first game. Yet the appearance of every monstie is just a lazy color swap. I wanted back my ice element Pink Rathian That had icy accents rather than a full color change. It's not a "Pink" Rathian anymore when you just make it blue and call it a day.
Another little thing is the menu. It feels so convoluting and confusing. There's just too much going on and I never know where to go immediately. They should've made the arrow buttons on the left controller editable shortcuts for the monsterpedia and such. Instead it's preset and the up arrow only zooms in and out the minimap. A feature I never need to use since I'd rather press the minus button for a full scope; or just press the right trigger to see the objective highlighted in the over world. Even selecting a weapon is difficult. The top of the weapon menu features two columns; one for elements, and one for the weapon type itself. Should make things more simpler, right? So tell me, why would they map the top column to the ZR and ZL buttons, and the lower one to L and R?; when on your controller the L and R buttons are on the top, and the ZR and ZL buttons are on the bottom? I can never get use to it because it doesn't even make any sense.
Customization isn't bad, but still pales in comparison to mh wilds. Especially when it comes to curly/coily hair types. Do I like the afro? Sure. But this is 2026. From what I recall mh wilds had more variety when it came to my hair type. Which made me happy. And there's only one voice for your character.
So far, characters feel boring af. They're designs are cool, but that's it. And Rudy really lives up to his name. He's so rude and obnoxious. I've never liked the palicos in any of the games because they talk too much and add very little to actually gameplay. Whereas in the mainline games they're actually there to help you and not just yap and take all the credit for the work you did.
Oh and if you talk to an NPC, your character won't even look at them. No zoom in or focus either. And yet there's so many characters to talk to. The castle town in Azuria is large and detailed, and yet so liveless at the same time. If you're looking for the same experience you got playing the first game. Or even the second game, think again. If you're new to the series however, maybe you'll enjoy it far more than a returning player. There's a lot of improvements (like fast kills in battle and on the field), but to be honest, the stuff they took away just makes it feel meaningless.

Monster Hunter Stories 3 had so much potential but was sabotaged by very questionable design choices and a lack of post launch support. The only good thing about this game is the refinement of the turn-based combat and a good variety in Monsties selection for each element. The bad: No proper High-Rank endgame after defeating the final boss. No Free Flight. No multiplayer co-op. Can't remove the Ratha from party. It doesn't feel like a proper Monster Hunter Stories game. Monster Hunter Stories 3 feels like it was rushed out by the Execs for their Quarterly Earnings. CAPCOM's greed is ruining the Monster Hunter series. The insulting $10 DLC with no new monsties or gear is the last nail in the coffin for me. I recommend getting the base game on a deep discount and avoid the Rudy's Story DLC, it's garbage.

A LAZY, EMPTY ENDGAME — TOTAL BETRAYAL Rating: 1/10 (PS5) Capcom has completely abandoned Monster Hunter Stories 3, leaving players with absolutely no reason to keep playing. This final "update" provides zero actual endgame progression. The free content is incredibly lazy, giving us nothing but un-rideable "Royal Monsters" with artificially bloated health bars to force a tedious, empty grind. Worse, the paid "Rudy" DLC is a pathetic, 20-minute cash grab slapped together just to legally fulfill pre-order obligations. By completely stripping out PvP and co-op dungeons, they destroyed hundreds of hours of replayability. There is no endgame loop, no end game high rank no, no extra weapons/armour or any new monsties etc, no multiplayer raids, and absolutely nothing to do once the credits roll. Treating a Monster Hunter title as a "one-and-done" single-player game with no live roadmap is a massive slap in the face to veterans who expected a proper post-game. Save your money. Once you finish the story, the game is entirely dead!

There is no endgame but thats basically the only negative thing I have to say about this game.

Another amazing game made by Capcom. Very good. It took me 95 hours to finish, no rush, just enjoying the main story, some side quests, fighting and capturing monsters, etc. The story is nice, the graphics are great. And the combat is really good. Recommended 100%. Plays and looks amazing on switch 2. Better than the demo, higher resolution too.

A Great Step up from the first 2 games. More complex combat mechanics, far better exploration and a truly Great Story. A Great Game despite some really confusing design decisions.

Solid game. If you have played other Monster Hunter titles before, it also kinda feels rewarding being able to recognize the Monsters (or Monsties) you fought before. The game is packed with story, from main to the sides. The fights are intuitive, and has a vast system you can experiment on. Overall, just a fun, good game. Pretty too. My only gripe is that I wish I had more of a "connection" to Ratha, or any of the Monsties of the side characters. I wish more stories were connected to the Monsties, themselves. Kinda makes me feel like their just weapons or cars.

So, I've just finished the game. Doing a casual run of around 60 hours. I have to say I was going in with NO, 0, ZERO expectations. I didn't know the spin off and how it worked. And the least I can say is that this is an excellent game. The music, the graphics, the gameplay and a bit less the story that has its weak points, I love everything. Really recommended with sometimes looking at a guide, especially for one fight where you have to guess how to win. The characters are really lovely, I really love Ogden. They all feel "alive" with a "soul". I'm getting a bit messy in my critic, but I'll sum it up by saying: this is a labor of love, made for all ages. Be it to a friend, a child or whoever. I'll recommend it without thinking.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is the peak of the series: deep, addictive, visually stunning, and with a much more mature story than its predecessors. Even with some grinding and a few less inspired moments, it’s an RPG that hooks you from start to finish, the kind where you say “just one more quest,” and before you know it, three hours have passed.

Massive improvement over 1 & 2. Camera still focuses on faces instead of tactical knowledge of who is actually looking at each other though. Some frame drops when trying to jump. In town draw distance is 5 meters. Everything else is fantastic.

A great game with good, classic turn-based combat. The level of technical polish in this game is surprising, and I'm sad that the Pokémon Company doesn't have the same care for its own game franchise.

I absolutely loved this game, everything about it is absolutely incredible and I highly recommend. From habitat restoration to the individual stories of your companions is just amazing, you can almost start to feel a real connection to these characters just from their side quests. 10/10 highly recommend for anyone who loves the Monster Hunter Stories spin-off series!

I have no words for how good the game is, from the story to the gameplay, whoever is a fan of monster hunter, digimon or pokemon should play this game, the only thing is that the side quests are a bit boring, but everything else is brilliant, I highly suggest it to anyone

Stories 3 is mechanically, a perfect evolution on Stories 1 and 2, and possibly the best Monster Tamer game in the genre. The characters and story are compelling, visuals are beautiful, and the music goes hard for a lot of the game. Mechanically, the monster breeding and taming aspects feel very intuitive and user friendly, making it feel rather relaxing and also satisfying to get the strongest monsties possible. My main criticism:
- Lacks the multiplayer aspect of the first and second games.
- No post-story content, which the first and second games had. Despite these, the game is still amazing and I am satisfied with the product I recieved, hoping for more content in the future!

Such an amazing upgrade from the second game. The visuals, the graphic, the monsters themselves are gorgeous looking. The new restoration mechanic allows you to find much more powerful eggs and rare genes. The maps are bigger and fun to explore. Even the companion's AI are somewhat smarter. I would recommend this game to any JRPG lovers

real review... i wish i hadn't payed money for this game... all i do is press x on the controller and look away from the non skippable animations while watching a show on streaming apps... can't figure out how to upgrade weapons and probly don't even need to since all u have to do is keep hitting x to kill anything. then i downloaded the 7 deadly sins for free and it's ten times better game

10/10! having now played all 3 titles in the (Stories) series, you can really see how they have evolved into what is MHS3, it takes the best elements from the first 2 games (Except Poogies) i’m not happy they’re back! and expands upon an already great foundation, its Ramped up to next level. Its a good challenge, a real hiddem gem and a must play for any RPG and Monster Hunter fans. Well done Capcom

Monster Hunter Stories 3 Review Story
I actually ended up enjoying the story way more than I expected. Compared to Stories 2, the characters feel more real and I found myself caring about them a lot more. There’s also a slightly more mature tone this time, which I think fits the game really well and makes everything feel more grounded.
That said, Rudy really dragged parts of it down for me. He’s constantly shouting and being rude for no real reason, and it just breaks immersion. There were multiple moments where I was fully into the story, and then he talks and it just pulls you out of it.
The final boss is also a bit questionable. Being forced to play as Ratha sounds cool, but it ends up feeling like RNG rather than skill. You’re basically hoping to survive instead of actually mastering the fight, which is a weird choice for such an important moment. Combat
Combat is honestly one of the strongest parts of the game.
The stamina system adds a nice layer of strategy, and the new abilities keep things from feeling repetitive. What I really liked is how characters grow over time, unlocking a second weapon and even another monster. It gives you more flexibility and makes team-building feel meaningful.
At any point in a fight, you feel like you have options, and that’s what makes the system so enjoyable. It’s simple to understand but has enough depth to keep you engaged. Habitat Restoration
This was a surprise highlight for me.
The habitat restoration system isn’t just there for visuals, it actually adds real value. It feels rewarding to interact with, and the bonuses you get make it worth investing time into.
The coolest part is how monsties can change elements depending on where you release them once your rank is high enough. That leads to some really interesting dual-element monsters that look great and feel unique. Honestly, this system is strong enough that I could see it working in mainline Monster Hunter games. Endgame
This is where the game really falls apart.
There’s basically no endgame content right now, and that’s a huge problem. In Stories 2, finishing the story gave you a reason to keep playing. You could build your team, experiment with genes, and really dive into the deeper systems.
Here, once you beat the final boss… that’s it.
Which makes no sense for a game like this. The systems are there, but there’s no real reason to use them after finishing the story. It kills the motivation to keep playing, and that’s honestly frustrating because the game has so much potential. Overall Verdict
Monster Hunter Stories 3 is definitely a step up from Stories 2.
The combat feels better, the story is more engaging, and the systems are more refined overall. It’s a genuinely good game and I had a great time with it.
But the lack of endgame content really holds it back. It feels like something is missing.
If Capcom adds proper post-game content through updates, this could easily become a 9 or even a 10. But right now, it just feels incomplete. Final Score: 8/10
A really strong game with one major flaw holding it back.

It's an very good story-rpg with an interesting combat-system like the previous games of this series. It has also his own mechanics and improvements. This game has also an really pretty art style which fits perfect in my opinion. Overall this game is very clean and has no deficits.

The gameplay is a bit difficult for first-time RPG enthusiasts. But I do really enjoy the graphics, monster collecting, and exploration. The characters are charming and the story is engaging, if not a bit simplistic. Overall, I really enjoyed my time with this game. It's a huge step up from the last two entries and a great direction for the franchise.

I can say without a doubt, it's the best entry in the spin-off series. Really loving the story and it's more mature theme, tho I wish they didn't have to take away free flying and kinda getting tired of the whole rathalos thing. If you're gonna use him for the third time in a stories game at least make him stand out gameplay wise apart from visually. Those are my pet peeves otherwise fantastic game

No multiplayer, no endgame. The VERY deep gameplay mechanics are made completely useless by the absolute lack of replayability, you finish the (very easy) main quest and you are done with the game forever. Not worthy of the Monster Hunter name and surely not worth the price. I would have asked for a refund if I knew this was it.

The best game in the franchise so far. The story has evolved a lot from previous games, and the visuals are more beautiful than ever. The exploration is enjoyable, and the new mechanics for relocating the monsties to the environment are super interesting. Definitely one of the games of the year. The console version is incredible, very enjoyable to play.
