Kokuga
So it's a slow dance; a gentle sway of steps with the occasional flourish. That can be far more enjoyable than the most energetic experience - but if you're getting things wrong, the wait to get it over with can be excruciating.
It is an extremely challenging game, but balanced and in line with other strenuous shmups, brutally rewarding.
Kokuga is a classic shoot'em up, with an high difficulty level that will be pure joy for the most hardcore gamers on 3DS.

Being a fan of any type of space/fantasy shooter I'm glad I finally got this title. There's a steep learning curve given the controls are hard to master, as the turret and rate of fire can be slower than you'd want it, but the style will grow on you as you adapt, especially if shooters are your thing. The difficulty is high but the reward is good. The card system can be a blessing or a curse depending on your luck. All in all very much worth the 15$! Note, one should play this title with a friend: it even supports Download Play for your friends who don't have a copy. It's clear co-op mode will give you a huge advantage and it's also clear the game was designed with difficulty levels adjusted for more than one player.

Overall, Kokuga is a welcome addition to the 3DS library and a fresh take on its genre. While it may target a more casual audience than its predecessor, Kokuga’s unique power-up system and huge boss variety definitely make it worth a playthrough.

Although a great deal of repetition is involved, and the slow controls may be enough to put people off, Kokuga is a decent example of a genre that isn’t getting enough new ideas these days.

At first, Kokuga comes across as a little too retro for its own good, with bland visuals and settings, mixed with an awkward control system. However, once past the initial hurdle, what is uncovered is something truly intriguing and extremely engaging.

Kokuga is an interesting shooter with some innovative mechanics, unfortunately marred by a sub-standard realization and a clumsy level design.
