A very good game although the lack of weapons ruins it a little, unless you play on servers with mods there is better, and despite being an old game the community is still quite active, at least you can enter quite a few almost full servers.

This is the shooter that completed my training, I am now a Jedi Master. The Brothers in Arms series was the beginning, this was the end. After having given up on shooters, mostly due to lackluster and spamville multiplayer sessions in COD and Halo, I found this gem. No bs hit points for days; actual teamwork; no radar-no on screen crosshairs etc. Its gritty and feels authentic... for a game. And no ammo count, this is a great feature. You actually have to listen and count yer ammo per clip.

I'm actually not a fan of FPS games. So the day I launched Insurgency I had a tremedous surprise. I began with coop modes which are really interesting by their diversity. I gradually got used to the maps offered by the game. That made me a better player because every time you die you have to watch other players' screen (often way more talentend than yourself). This helped me to understand the game mechanics which are unlike any other FPS I've ever played. The game directly rewards you when you master these mechanics. So you surprise yourself by counting the number of seconds it takes for a grenade to be unpinned, throwed and eventually explode. You learn how AI has been made, its behavior, strategies and weapons. Coop is excellent to progress for new players. Shoutout to the 'outpost' and 'survival' modes that really are fast-paced and exciting. Competitive mode is another business. You get headshot kilometers away, not even knowing where it came from. I think competitive mode is for hardcore gamers. It could also be linked to the time I played (in 2018, so 5 years after the game released). Anyway experiencing this mode was for me a tough thing. I actually have 350h of gameplay on Insurgency. Not to lie, the servers are currently barely empty in coop. What I do now is playing in solo mode in which friends bots are awful. I train to speedrun and use all I've learn while playing against hardcore enemy bots.I just can't get enough of this game.

Tedious controller support. Unclear menus for newcomers. No simple option to play as a group VS AI, except playing with other unknown players. And... The game design is such that you spend most of your time dead. You usually spend 5 minutes waiting for your partners to win or die, for one or two minutes of playing. Not to mention you have to install a third party anti-cheat module. What the hell is that game ?

This actually gets an eight from me, but I don't feel like reviewers treated it fairly. It isn't perfect, some maps are very imbalanced on some modes, there's cheaters and laggers. Missing too are expected quality of life features, like savable server filters, stuff like this. But for gameplay, besides the occasional cheaters and laggers, it is absolutely fine. A **** tactical shooter. This is the only game where I feel guns have the right stopping power and range if handled correctly, but not totally painfully simulationist crud. Realistic, but still a game. There's room for many different play-styles, I my self am successfully able to run and gun, but then, if need be switch fire modes and peck off a sniper, if he hasn't seen me first. So if you want a tactical FPS with smoke grenades and fire modes, but don't want to get repeatedly killed by aircraft, exploded by personal UAVs or somebody with a mortar, then this is for you. I imagine it is fairly easy to run on most computers, but it could use prettier graphics. I think this is my shooter of the year 2018, and I do not doubt it will be long before I'm regularly 3 k/pd.

A friend of mine gave me this game in 2014 and it was sitting on my steam library for months as I was busy playing COD Modern Warfare. After so many annoying encounters with trolls and kids that just mic spamming, i took a long break from FPS game. I then tried Insurgency just out of curiosity, and boy I was impressed with the game play. Out of my 500 plus games in my steam library, Insurgency, the game that I got for free, has become the most played game with 1800 plus hours on it. Through out the time, I tried other shooting game like Battlefield 3 and 4, Modern Warfare 2, but the guns and recoils in those games don't feel right anymore. I think many negative feedback on the game is because people were playing it like they were playing COD or Battlefield where you can run and gun. This game meant to be played tactically with your team mates / other players. The PVP was good although I enjoy the Co-Op better. So I can't say much about the PVP. There are 4 different co-op modes, haven't played much of the other modes, but CHECKPOINTS mode is by far has the best gameplay I had on this game. In Checkpoints mode: As a team, you need to capture checkpoints and defend them from counter attack by bots. The process of taking the checkpoint is not easy, you have to battle through crazily accurate shooter bots that will RPG you the second you bunch up like scared little kids with your team mate. So you have to play it tactically and move as a team. If you try to play it Rambo style, you will end up getting killed really fast and you will have to wait until the rest of your team capture the next checkpoint, then you will re-spawn. This game meant to be semi realistic where there is no crosshair to help you aim, you need to bring up your gun and use the iron sight to shoot. You can shoot from your hips but like a real gun when you shoot from hips, you don't know where the bullet will go. You can have some sort of crosshair by attaching laser pointer on your gun if you prefer. When you play this game, try and find a good server with active Admin on it, although this game doesn't have as much cancer player as other shooters (kids that will troll the game and spoil the fun), but with the present of Admin will assure you will have fun time as long as you play it by the rule set by the server host / admin (ie: wait for team mate, no mic spamming, etc). If you are not sure how to play this game, ask around in the game. Most player are adults that will be happy to help and give you direction on what to do and what Not to do. In conclusion, give this game a try and put a bit effort to learn the mechanics and the game objectives and I am sure you will have fun time with it.

Very good Insurgency is a Tactical and Realistic FPS. [What I liked] It is a difficult game, This is not a Call Of Duty here you can not run and shoot like Rambo, you must be attentive at all times and you must be careful, plus you should avoid going alone as much as you can. It's a pretty fun game, but like other games it's tired after a while. I like the way to choose the classes and your equipment since you must choose the weapons and utilities intelligently because the number of things you can carry is limited, so you should only carry what you are going to use or what best suits your playing style. The graphics are sufficient in my opinion and the sound section its good. The game modes also I liked a lot, they are several and they are entertaining. [What didn't like me] The weapons do not have statistics within the game because there are times when I want to have more precision but I do not know what weapons to choose since there are NO statistics inside the game. The maps are very generic and are similar to each other and I do not like them much, but they are not bad, they do their function There is not much pre-eminence of teamwork unless you play with friends. The game bores pretty fast if you do not play with friends. There is not something that makes me want to keep playing, I mean, In Call of Duty and Battlefield you keep playing because there is something that motivates you, getting a new weapon, a new skin for it, etc. In CSGO is the ranking system which shows your "Skill" and makes you want to continue playing to raise the rank and play against better players. In Insurgency, on the other hand, there is nothing that motivates me to continue playing beyond being fun. -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ The game is a combination of Battlefield with Arma3 and CSGO but has its own essence does not feel like a copy of any of this games. Insurgency is a good game that I recommend.

I just made an account on metacritic just to tell you how awsome this game is. Hardcore-Realism-Teamwork are the three aspects of this game. If you are looking into such experience don't hesitate just go for it even better on sale!. CoD-BF and other fps games are just time-wasters in front of this. This is a verified PTSD Simulator which is extremely intense at times and hilariously funny at others. I think I deserves a much better score the one it has been given overall 10 out of 10 for a game that was pressed on budget.

This game deliver the best tactical shootouts in years in a thrilling and realistic variety of situations. The arsenal isn't the biggest but all guns sounds awesome and are actually useful to the game. No pointless gunporn here. Maps are plenty and big enought to allow unit to spread on the battlefield with strategy in the many objective based gamemodes available. The devs have been fantastic offering only free DLCs with a lot of new gamemodes, maps and accessories. The games keeps improving. If you loved the Swat series and the first Ghost Recon, Insurgency seems a bit like a mix of the two, with a bit of CS thrown in. A MUST BUY. *Best with headset to coordinate with teammates. *Steam Workshop integration is AMAZING. 10/10

Insurgency takes the good elements of more realistic and tactful games like Arma and Red Orchestra 2 and removes the massive maps and endless walking, delivering a fast-paced, intelligent FPS game unlike anything in the market. NOTE: Do not be afraid to buy this on 2017, the community is still pretty active and will remain so until the sequel, Insurgency: Sandstorm, is released in 2018.

Insurgency is an amazing and addicting fps experience. All of the guns look and feel realistic and the animations for them are superb, some of the best I've ever seen. The gunplay is fluid and intense and various types of grenades (flash, smoke, frag) are actually useful and have their moments. Communication isn't as important as in games like ArmA although some tactics are required (all running out at once is a great way to die). Most guns can kill you in 1-3 shots forcing you to think about how you are going to get the jump on your enemy rather than trying to take them head on. The maps are very well designed and atmospheric. Unfortunately, The game modes are kinda similar to one another and only a few are actually fun. The new Vietnam War mod (Born to Kill) is incredibly well done and worth checking out. Despite these features I think that $10 is a bit pricey. When it goes on sale for $2 definitely pick it up - you won't be disappointed.

Nice game. I won't write a long review for this game as long as I just want to give a positive review for this game as a feedback for the developers and as a recomandation for new players that are looking for a title on Steam that is a good-balanced team based modern FPS, enough simple to learn basics on how to play for new ones, has a very realistic gameplay and control of the weapons, good sound, nice interface, decent price and decent graphics. Although I think the game is in need of a little bit more optimization for some maps at least and I say this because the base engine for this is Source Engine so I'm sure that this fact can be improved and could be made one of the best features for this game. The game is decent optimized and works well for everyone for now but things could be much better (I don't want to say optimization is a big problem for this at all). Also the game is populated and you can easly find a game/server or people to play with at least for now (Number of concurrent players in-game vary from 1000 to arround 2500+ per day without an event in progress like a discount or something). (Score: 90/100 for me)

Don't buy this game if you don't like to play games like Counter Strike. This game made me want to create an account just to warn you about it, unfortunately I bought it before the refund system but I'm still going to ask for a refund. Also there isn't a lot of players available, so if you're going to play by yourself think twice. Also Some players of the the community are kinda weird (or maybe I didn't find too many online playing to be able to socialize with). The gameplay is also sluggish at some parts and can drive you mad.

This game is like a "Realistic Counter-Strike" the game is good in "felling" terms, i shot real weapons and looks very similar that is why i love and how the hell no? at the beginning of this game called "Counter-Insurgency" in 2002 was made by Andrew Spearin based in his experiences in the Canadian army. Was another Half-Life 2 mod but less popular (maybe because is more complicated to play) and now in the standalone version we can see a really big growing, more weapons (always realistic) more game modes, mods, skins, maps, servers, all is really good and the community (not a factor for judge a game) is really good to, so if you wan hi competitive FPS whit realism touches and no problems, this game is for you. What is the next? we gone a have a new version in 2017 called "Insurgency sandstorm" whit unreal engine 4 and history or campaign. For the cost of the game i think we have a lot, is hard find the words for say why Insurgency is "The perfect shooter".

Never played the mod much but this standalone version is fantastic. Game has a decent variety of maps, weapons, and attachments. There are roles on your team you select when joining a server which determine what main weapons you can select. You have a certain amount of points to spend on attachments, grenades, etc. Everything is unlocked from the start so you don't have to grind just to unlock some stupid optic (thank God). People are generally friendly and helpful to new players. Game has PvP multiplayer and PvE co-op modes. In co-op, players have to complete objectives while dealing with AI enemies. On higher difficulty settings, the AI is pretty competent, very accurate, and very trigger happy. The co-op modes are a lot of fun and are not simply tacked on modes. Tons of fun with friends. My only complaint is the game seems to suffer from poor performance even on higher end systems. Tweaking settings to get consistent frame rates seems silly since it's using the Source engine but that's what I had to do.

Insurgency does a few things that most modern FPS are too afraid to do. Keeping a perfect balance for fun and hardcore gamers. It uses some elements from Tactical games (Rainbow Six 1999-2004, ARMA etc) to keep it challenging, but not too much that it becomes a chore to enjoy. There are no cross-hairs to spray and pray, so you have to be extra careful. You'll also die in one shot from unpredictable places. The game forces you to work with your team to survive, but the frantic pace will not keep you bored. This review is also made on my Steam Account*

This is my first review, I made this account just to praise this game. It is the BEST tactical/realistic fps I have ever played. Prior to this Counter Strike, Battlefield and Red Orchestra 2 were my go to tactical shooters. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 on console. This game beats out all those. This game balances realism with non stop action and is always fun unlike some more serious simulation games. The game modes are varied and very well done. The maps are fantastic. The night maps WILL blow you away the first time you play them just make sure to equip night vision goggles or a flashlight because in this game youll need it. A no brainer if youre a fan of tactical/realistic/military first person shooters. Really is an engrossing experience that makes you FEEL like you are a part of a military force. 10/10

But in case you found a nice team and you know what your are doing (CQB) than this perl is worth every cent you spent. This is a REAL warfare game. This game is by far the most realistic war game i've ever played. No regenerating health, no mini maps, no special kill streaks and **** actual gun recoil and only about a bullet or 2 to kill someone as well as the fact that you sometimes have absolutely no clue where the **** you are getting shot at from. This really made you feel like you were in the game and I really like that. You even had realistic radio sounding voices when you talk in-game, and you had to communicate with your team to complete an objective. The graphics and gameplay itself are good too. This is a really fun game and it is fairly difficult (by that i mean no COD **** lol) and you have to move around carefully and be on full alert at all times. For anyone looking for a good war game FPS I highly recommend that you check this out.

Insurgency is a tactical shooting game that runs on the Source Engine, so the graphic is very similar to CS:GO. When you first play, you will die a lot. But when you get the hang of it, it's quite simple. There is no ammo counter, mini map, and also no crosshair. Hip firing is very unreliable, so you will use iron sights most of the time. And there is no kill feed too, some servers have this, but most don't, so you won't know who and from where you've been shot. The HUD only displays the objectives, team respawns, and number of magazines. If you aren't wearing armor, most guns will kill you in a few shots, so you have to be careful. There are roles in Insurgency and all of them has unique weapons. Instead of buying weapons, we can choose weapons and put extensions on them depending on your weapon points and role. Sometimes, when playing in team insurgents, some players will role play a little bit too hard. Most of the people I've played with are quite friendly and will work together. Though there is a lack of servers and a minor technical problem with the game. Every time I try to close Insurgency in my computer, I have to use the task manager because when I press quit, the game freezes. But it doesn't interfere with the gameplay. In summary, Insurgency is a unique tactical shooter that relies on teamwork and tactics. I really recommend this game.
