Hyperwired never quite reaches the absolute heights of the genre, but stands firmly on its own two feet. The short playtime prevents the concept from becoming overused, and while the game won't rewrite the history books; it knows exactly what it wants to be. Hyperwired needs no more than an hour to remind us why this genre is still impossible to tire of.

Playing HYPERWIRED feels like being handed a brilliant toy bolted to a slightly awkward machine. The cable is a constant physical presence, and it made me think about space and positioning in a way most twin-stick shooters never do. Runs are quick and tense, dying costs me nothing, and the moment a battery modifier lines up with the right upgrade is a real thrill. What stopped me short of loving it is how little of that carries forward, since every run resets me to roughly the same place.

A solidly fun title, with some wonky systems that could become very good with a little tweaking.
