A sequel is always a hard thing to pull off. On one hand, you want to push things forward with fresh and exciting ideas, but on the other, you don’t want to alienate fans of the original nor make it feel too detached. Hades II, in my opinion, manages to deliver in every way possible. Bigger, better and even sexier, there’s no excuse for any Nintendo Switch 2 owner not to have this in their library.
If you were ever on the fence with trying the original Hades, or thought Supergiant Games couldn’t possibly outdo themselves after the first game, then you owe it to yourself to check out Hades II. This year has been stellar when it comes to great games, and Hades II still manages to stand out from the pack for me. It’s an absolutely fantastic follow-up to the original and one that shouldn’t be missed.
Hades II is much more than a sequel. Supergiant Games’ work exceeds all expectations, with a gameplay loop that keeps you hooked at every moment, even as you die trying. Its immersive narrative and thrilling action make it an essential title for action lovers.

Hades II is the sequel to one of the greatest roguelikes ever made. That's both its greatest asset and its heaviest ****'s get this out of the way. The game is good. The loop is dangerously addictive, the art direction is jaw dropping, and Supergiant clearly poured their souls into this. But "good" hits different when your older brother is a **** combat swaps Zagreus's visceral, in your face aggression for Melinoë's spellcasting heavy kit, and honestly? It's a downgrade. Hades 1 made you feel like a weapon. Hades II makes you feel like you're managing a weapon. The flow isn't there. The synergies between boons and builds, the secret sauce that made the first game's theorycrafting so intoxicating, feel muddier, less intuitive, like the pieces almost fit but never quite snap together. Then there's Melinoë herself. She's fine. And "fine" is the problem. Zagreus was defiant, self deprecating, layered, a protagonist you'd actually want to grab a drink with after he crawled out of a river of blood for the fortieth time. Melinoë is dutiful, determined, and... that's kind of it. She carries the weight of the narrative without much of the **** the real sin? The dialogue. Supergiant, the studio famous for making every single line of NPC conversation feel like a gift, somehow buried this game under a mountain of words that say remarkably little. In Hades, I would literally die on purpose just to go home and talk to everyone. In Hades II, I'm mashing through conversations like I'm clearing pop up ads. The writing mistakes volume for depth, and for a studio with this pedigree, that **** bosses will humble you. The atmosphere will haunt you. The "one more run" pull is absolutely real. It's a great roguelike that just happens to be a disappointing sequel, and there's a strange, bittersweet space between those two truths.Worth every penny. Just don't expect lightning to strike the same place twice.

I bought Hades 1 and Hades 2 together. I never really got hooked on Hades 1, so I was a bit skeptical when I started playing Hades 2, but I ended up feeling much more positive about it. I think it’s a better game overall. There are more progression options, and the pacing is faster, so you rarely feel like you’re getting stuck. That said, I still think it sometimes can become a bit boring and drawn out to go through the same levels over and over again.

This game is rubbish. Nowhere near how good Hades 1 was. Hades 1 is miles better than this crap. The game doesn't explain anything it's so confusing as well but once you get past that the game still ****.

I don’t know what more you could ask for from a Hades sequel. Everything that the first game did so well, Hades 2 does it even better, letting you enjoy the story and characters of this world on a more intimate level than before while the game’s combat, encounter, and level design feel more refined as you control the battlefield and slay Chronos’ minions by the hundreds. It all comes together to remind you that Hades and Hades 2 really are the ultimate roguelikes.

Hades 2 takes the original games great formula and perfects it. The weapons are more fun, the gameplay is smoother, the game doesn’t feel like you have to mash constantly due to the omegas and magic systems and while this game is probably a bit harder (especially the surface) than the original, nothing feels unfair and it’s super fun

Incredible game. Not usually a fan of action games but the storytelling, worldbuilding, and flow really made me fall in love with Hades 2. Polished an already amazing game in Hades 1 and added even more replayability.

How do you even sum up something as beautiful, special, memorable, and admirable as Hades 2? There is no one out there doing what Supergiant does as well as it does, and this exceptional action roguelite is some of this team’s best work on nearly every level (which is an astonishingly high bar to clear). It's the type of video game that reminds me why I love video games so damn much. The art is breathtaking, the characters are captivating, the combat is fast, fun, endlessly varied, and tactical, and the music is spectacular. May moonlight guide us. All of us.

Believe it or not, we struggled to find any flaws in Supergiant Games' latest offering. Hades 2 is a masterful game in every way: the sheer amount of content is breathtaking, the character designs are a feast for the eyes, and the gameplay boasts a depth that puts most roguelikes currently on the market to shame. So if you enjoy the genre, you simply have no excuse: you absolutely must play it.

Hades II is a benchmark for the genre. The story, characters, writing, and art direction exceed the expectations set by the original Hades. Further, the new gameplay mechanics and the addition of a second area make for a game that can keep you occupied for dozens of hours without ever getting boring. While the ending is extremely disappointing, I can confidently recommend Hades II to everyone, regardless of whether you've played other entries in the genre or not.

Hades II improves on nearly every aspect of its phenomenal predecessor with deeper combat and customization, a substantially larger world, and creative witchcraft abilities.

Immortal family drama is at the heart of Hades II, just as it was its 2020 predecessor. This time, though, the stakes are higher, the cast is larger, and the action is more demanding, mostly for the better.

The pinnacle of the genre. I loved the original game and Hades II takes it up several notches higher. Supergiant did everything right here and this one is going to be an all-time classic.

Checkpoint really bad in this game, multiple bosses instead of 1 means you need to fight same bosses over and over again every run which is unbelieavably stupid in my opinion, each floor only consists of same bunch of enemy in a very small area without random chest/exploration like other rogue games, character strength/progression between each run also very slow, completely waste of time.i rather f off and go play chocobo everybuddy again(another better rogue games)than finishing this A hole. Best action game of 2025 really??unbelievable, guess potato pc requirements of the game help the vote

As far as roguelikes go, Hades 2 is decent. But given how shallow these types of games are, I can’t justify anyone giving it a 10/10. It may be a 10/10 for the genre, but for an actual video game, it isn’t even close.

Fun at first. If you love playing the same level a thousand times even after beating it then this game is for you.

I played for three hours and it's definitely not my cup of tea. I also don't understand why people make such a fuss about it. It's certainly not a bad game, but it's not a very good one either.
