Part RTS, part tower defense, with a smidgen of casual gaming thrown in, “Gratuitous Space Battles” is a great deal of fun and surprisingly deep, especially early on while the player is exploring the mechanics. Definitely worth 17 bucks for the collector's edition.

It is not a bad piece of DLC by any means, but I feel that it does not shout out a message of “You Need This” like some other expansion packs might.

As the Outcasts go, however, you're not really missing much if you just leave them behind.
