This is still the best GTA game today. It has the best map, best characters, and best mods. Rockstar, if you are reading this, REMAKE this game for the PS6!

I played this game on the Series S in 2026. I had played it before but only as a kid and without doing any missions. Many people think this is the best GTA game and I agreed for the longest time and now I finally sat to play through the missions. Unfortunately it was not as good as I thought it would be. First the good, it just feels good and fun to be in the game's world. It has such a great open world environment and interacting with it is fun and the driving feels so good. To this day I don't think there are many games that does the driving as nice and fun as GTA IV. The name is deserved. But other than this I think the game misses out on a lot of stuff. First of all, the missions. I will say they are mostly boring. There are missions where you do such interesting stuff but only so few. For example the helicopter missions, the bank heist, some of the chases but it gets repetitive very quick. There aren't enough different things to keep you entertained, the car driving keeps you in the game. After the driving, it's the interesting characters. But the other aspects. Like the social aspects are so boring and the game urges you to do this with so many different people. The mini-games are just not fun. The gun play is fun, but not enough to get into combat over and over again. Another problem with the gun play is that access to ammo is hard, logistically. I have the money for it but I don't want to drive all the way to the gun store. So I just get them with cheats. Even the driving gets boring after a while, I just started using taxis. And the game is too long for the variety it offers in its gameplay. Overall, there should've been more different, fun missions with a shorter beat time and maybe some of the missions can be side quests or something. In the end, I did enjoy the driving and some of the story but it wasn't enough. Finally, one last thing: Did we really need that union busting mission, playing that at a time where Rockstar is doing it themselves was annoying (6.9)

You come out in 2008 with a checkpoint system, yet the whole game is riddled with bugs, the police ruin the missions, and every time we die, we waste minutes navigating your hideous map—you are an absolute disgrace.

This game has SO MUCH to offer. I constantly replay this game due to how much I love it. In my opinion it is better than GTA V, but V comes very close. The story is much darker than V, with some real depressing moments, but Niko is an amazing character, same goes with Roman and most of the characters. Cars feel way different than most of the GTA's, with it feeling slightly more realistic. The game does drop frames at some points but I can handle that. The theme is also one of the best Rockstar had made, the city feels great.

To release a game like that in April of 2008 was insane. Story is a 10/10 Gameplay is a 10/10 Music is a 10/10 The only thing that is lacking is that for some people the missions get to repetitive - I am not one of them. For that time to make a game like this is absurd. The physics are unique and a lot of people still cannot believe that this game still got released at that time. At that time we thought we got insane games by 2015 or even 2025. False. This game was an exception.

one of Rockstars greatest stories .Gta 5 can't even come close to the emotion and depth of Gta 4's characters and story, Gta 5's sunny and vibrant Los Santos can't even come close to the gritty dark atmosphere of Liberty City, the trauma and depth of Niko, the comedic value of Roman, Little Jacob and Patrick, and the story DLC YES for you youngers that have only played Gta 5 Gta 4 had two whole DLC's following Louis Lopez and Johnny, the DLC had more depth than Gta 5's whole story, the struggle of the lost and dammed with Johnny and the struggle of Louis trying trying to get out of the world of crime while his mother puts him down every chance she gets and his friends pull him deeper into crime, absolutely amazing game, the online isn't as good as Gta 5's no, but it was enjoyable, and i made some good friends on there as well.

Un juego muy bueno, aunque puede llegar a ser largo, sus misiones son rápidas y cortas, así que puedes hacer las misiones de forma rápida, en lo personal nunca me empareje o tuve intención de jugar con los amigos de Niko o formar una relación amorosa, así que el final entre las dos decisiones no fue tan complejo decidir. Los entornos con colores oscuros te meten de forma inmersiva, las formas de interactuar con el mundo es muy bueno. Una historia excelente y un final que se siente como una derrota y a la vez una victoria. Es crudo y todos pierden. El ocho es porque no fui constante y porque no me logro generar algo más, pero fuera de eso es un gran juego y no se niega.

I would argue this is one of the best Grand theft Autos, due to story and mechanics such as vehicle deformation, gore, gun mechanics, driving realistic. Compared to gta5 feels a step down with the story feeling like comedy is required and taking into consideration this game was released in 2008 I would say this is one of the best single player games I’ve played.

Definitely the most janky GTA game. Probably the worst one if we're honest from a gameplay, graphics (for its time), and story perspective. I even liked the top-down 2D ones better than this.

I was expecting it to be completely different from other gta's, I got disappointed there but the game overall just build and builds up till the end , gives you some great choices in the middle ,and the payoff is the one that made me rate it a 9/10 , it's a must play for slow burn lowers like me ,one of the best gta's ever

When compared, GTA 4 thoroughly outshines GTA 5 in most respects. In GTA 4, the physics engine, NPC system and the feel of the weapons are all of a very high standard. You could say that the NPCs have been given a proper brain. When you shoot an NPC, rather than the classic pre-rendered animations, a physics-based system generates a real-time, self-generated animation depending on where they’re hit. In short, it’s an absolutely brilliant game; the only downside is that the colours in the game aren’t particularly vibrant.

This game really needs a remaster with beter graphics , that would be awesome.

GTA IV is my favorite game of all time, it took me over 10 years to get the platinum. Nico is kinda of that quiet uber driver that you end up rooting for. He doesn't drink or do any substances, he does what he does because he has to. I cannot wait for a remastered version to play it again.

Para mí, GTA IV es un 10/10 y el juego más serio y realista de toda la saga Grand Theft Auto. No es solo caos y diversión… es una historia cruda sobre la vida. La historia de Niko Bellic es de las mejores que he visto en un videojuego. No es el típico protagonista: tiene pasado, traumas y decisiones difíciles. Todo gira en torno al “sueño americano”… pero mostrando su lado más oscuro. El gameplay se siente más pesado y realista que otros GTA, lo que hace que cada tiroteo y persecución se sientan más intensos. La física de los autos, los choques y las animaciones le dan un toque único que ningún otro GTA ha replicado igual. La ciudad, Liberty City, está llena de vida. No es la más colorida, pero sí la más creíble. Todo se siente más “real”, desde la gente hasta el ambiente gris de la ciudad. La música, las estaciones de radio y los detalles hacen que te pierdas completamente en el mundo del juego. Y lo más importante: las decisiones. El juego te pone en situaciones donde no hay una opción “correcta”, y eso le da un peso emocional fuerte. En resumen, GTA IV es un 10/10 porque se atreve a ser diferente. Es más oscuro, más realista y más profundo que otros GTA.
