Bethesda has completed a port that is not only well optimized, but also offers a variety of graphics modes and a huge amount of content that make this colossus an essential RPG, if you haven't played it before on another platform.

Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 has not only avoided the serious problems that plagued the game on other platforms, but it is now positioned as the most interesting option for playing the title (whether again or for the first time), and I am sure that many viewers of the television series and Nintendo users will find it well worth the price.

While still perhaps not the most ideal platform to enjoy this Bethesda classic on, the Switch 2 performs admirably and there’s no denying this is an epic world to play in.

Overall, this release is for those who can never get enough of the scale of Bethesda Game Studios games, have never played Fallout 4, love portability, or are weird Bethesda bug loving masochists, who like to see the ridiculous things that can happen when you put Bethesda’s Creation Engine to the test. After this port’s decent launch state, it will be interesting to see how future Bethesda games fare, such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, but only time will tell.

Fallout 4 on Switch is an great example of a port done well. While it isn't perfect, it's a great way to play Fallout on the go.

Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition delivers a mostly compromise-free experience on Nintendo Switch 2, while the lack of gyro and mouse controls is disappointing, the game itself is worthy of new players jumping into.

While we can debate whether Fallout 3 is better than Fallout 4, what’s clear is that this Switch 2 version is a great game no matter how you look at it. It may have a few hiccups here and there, but it’s one of those releases that genuinely reminds you why you bought a Switch 2 in the first place: because it can now run games this big—and run them this well.

Bethesda may have dropped the ball when it comes to taking full advantage of the finer aspects of the Nintendo Switch 2 controller, but what's on offer is a substantial package that will deliver nigh endless gameplay. Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition is an awesome port that looks and runs about as well as fans could hope for. The Commonwealth is a fascinating setting packed with detail and interesting factions. Not everything works as intended, like the weak story and motivations for the protagonist, but the magic happens when gamers are left to their own devices and express themselves, either through extreme violence or by building and defending a town.

Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2 is not the best version of Fallout 4, but it plays well enough to warrant a recommendation for Switch owners who don’t own a PC or any other console that has seen a Bethesda release in the past decade. It’s a surprisingly good port that’s giving me hope for future RPGs to make their way to the Switch 2.

I’m just thankful that Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition is a solid, accomplished Switch 2 port. No caveats, no essential patches needed, just a good version of a good game.
