A superb bite-sized experience with an excellent combat system, enchanting graphics, and fantastic flamenco-infused music. En Garde! oozes humor, its fencing duels are action-packed and truly satisfying. Regrettably, it falls short in terms of its relative brevity, simplistic platforming, and uninteresting storyline.

Arkham-esque combat and lovely platforming combine in this joyous and colourful game.

En Garde’s intense sword fights and infectious atmosphere make it a fun, if fleeting, indie action game.

This one is a solid seven out of ten! The gameplay itself is straightforward and simple. No upgrade shenanigans just raw skill and some swordplay (we'll get to that in a minute). How this game differs compared to like Sifu in that this game does not focus on parrying. Enemies will flood you with interrupting attacks ensuring that you cannot go on a parrying roll! I can see many will get frustrated here, I did too early on, but we shouldn't expect everygame to just mimic successful systems. En Garde! wants players to break the flow of combat by utilising the environment as your main methods of dealing with the bulk of the enemies. The environment inflicts stuns, damage, knockdowns, and KOs. Swordplay is reserved for isolating singular or a few enemies at a time if you have developed the skill. I grew to respect this game's system even though I do think it can make combat quite slow and protracted at times. There is also the odd duels during the story mode that does involve executing a chain of parries and dodges perfectly in order to whittle down the enemies guard and fatigue. I enjoyed the challenge here and did not find it to be too difficult. The game has a charming artsyle, has a good arena mode with modifiers, and honestlythe team has built a fantastic foundation. Shame it is a one off. Bravo!

This game honestly is not very good. There are some interesting ideas, but there are too many flaws. There is very little enemy variety (only 5 or 6 enemies), so instead of providing more variety, the game just throws like 10 enemies at a time at you. It is not fun; it is just annoying. I discovered this because I saw it in a list of games that are supposedly like Sekiro, but this is not really like Sekiro. I wanted a parrying-focused game, but this game is not about parrying; it's about dodging the 10 enemies running toward you at the same time. And the enemies have too many unblockable (red) attacks, meaning there is very little incentive to parry. It's a shame, because the art style and the world design are unique, and the music is fun. But the story is just a pointless backdrop, and the dialogue is very cheesy.

Very nice artstyle, funny story sadly presented in very static scenes (cutscenes are literally still). Combat is very interesting and responsive... but sadly very quickly gets old. Game is very short yet at the end it became a chore. I think main problem are enemies... having duelists regaining full "health" with one mistake is just grueling, especially if there is even one more enemy around. Duelist does parrable attack but some other enemy forces you to doge? Well duelsit is in full health. With tweaked enemies, either in number or strengts would make this game super fun. I really look foward to next project of these creators

En Garde! offers a tight core idea and executes on it well, although in some predictable ways. It’s fun to constantly scan the battlefield and evaluate incoming enemies to decide how to use the environment and Adalia’s superior fencing skills to separate groups, stun some enemies, and, finally, take all of them down. The unlockable reveals even more options to spice battles up and create interesting scenarios. The title’s platforming and exploration are limited, which will limit its appeal for anyone who doesn’t quickly enjoy the combat. En Garde! is a happy adventure dedicated to fans of pulp and complex battle situations.

En Garde! Reminds me of classic hack-and-slash games but with the charm of Monkey Island and plenty of modern refinements. It’s genuinely funny, genuinely enjoyable, and full of charm. You will smile and cheer as you dance around the room, duelling with waves upon waves of dim-witted guards. While there is variety in the foes you face, the game only has four chapters, and you will have reached the end in around 4 hours. It’s a shame, but I think it works for fear of ‘too much of the same thing’ if it goes on longer.

Graphics: Very impressive for what used to be (originally) a student game, now boosted by an unreal engine under hormons like the genomic soldiers from Metal Gear Solid 1. Really pretty and colorful, inclusive design. Lighting effects are godlike. Gameplay: Strawberry-flavoured artificial intelligence, allowing the player to use a large panel of toolset to solve what we could call "immersive-sim-esque-story-telling-puzzle-fighting". (sounds like a joke, but it's an accurate description). Such a pleasure to bounce around controlling Adalia, this game is the game of micro-decisions as well as macro ones. Music and sound: Sound effects are pleasing to the ear, music is globally old but gold. We only had wished to hear the song "En Garde" from the German band "Dartagnan" at some point. Soundtrack can be purchased on the Stean store, allowing you to listen to it on your walkman. Conclusion: Don't hesitate one second, and rush towards this bouncy quest of an adventure ! This is a pure ingot waiting for you!

Despite wishing there was more to do in En Garde!, I understand how a short title can be frustrating. Hopefully, with time, more will be added to this title to make it worth the twenty-dollar price tag. Thanks to En Garde!, I was able to play this wonderful story, no matter how short it was! It has a story worth telling. Maybe we’ll see more of our new favorite swash-buckling protagonist, maybe not; but I for one hope so!

En Garde! is a perfect little capsule of engaging action, a well-refined aesthetic, and appealing characters. Like an expert duelist, it doesn’t waste a single strike.

En Garde! is a small game that manages to be fun in every moment. It is not very varied, but fortunately it does not try to last too long. The combat system works and the comic approach is enjoyable. It is not a memorable game, but if you like the style and want something to refresh you between one 300-hour RPG and the next, we recommend it.

En Garde! has plenty of style and looks and controls well enough, but the extremely tedious gameplay focusing more on tricks than swordplay quickly starts to wear thin.

Although the game is quite limited in terms of graphics and is purely linear, with only a few secrets to discover, it more than makes up for it with its fantastic gameplay (or swordplay), clever use of environment, and easy to learn, hard to master mechanics. The bosses need a few runs to learn their moves, however, this is not a soulslike at all - it encourages attacking, and being able to counter once the attacks fail. It's short, but its replayability is quite good as you want to try all possible tactics. Excellent piece of work.

The game wouldn't bad if it weren't for that awful off-center camera. Character needs to be in the center of the screen.
