Although this is ultimately just more Dishonored, fans now have five more missions to play and some new powers to test out. Those who didn’t like the original games or who feel burned out on the franchise won’t find anything here to change their minds, but if this is, indeed, Arkane’s sendoff for the series, they went out on a good note.

In contrast to Emily or Corvo Billie does not offer the sense of true power, which might be disappointing to some, but to me was refreshing. Death of the Outsider provides just five missions, but one of them is so good and so extensive that I replayed it over and over again to find every alternative path and hidden event. [12/2017, p.70]

A fine send-off for the Dishonored series, with enough new tricks to let you experiment freely, explore, and execute in a shorter but no less satisfying campaign. [December 2017, p.83]

Buon DLC, che non implementa il gameplay degli episodi precedenti, ma chiude degnamente una splendida saga.

Great installment, its the worst of the three but its still amazing. The protagonist is really my only gripe. Not alot of depth to her and she tries to be badass when she can be annoying. Otherwise the game is smooth as hell.

Overall, Death of the Outsider ties up the first arc of Dishonored nicely; I have no idea where it’s going to go next, and all I can do is pray that Arkane don’t call it a day, because I adore this series. All other issues seem trivial in the face of it being such a well-crafted piece of art, and my main complaint is that there simply isn't enough of it. I adore this series, and this game. Buy it, play it, and love it.

Critical Hit
Death of the Outsider is smaller, more focused standalone expansion that eschews some of the series’ superfluous mainstays to deliver a core, action-stealth experience. If this is the end for Dishonored, then it’s gone out in style.

This was a separate expansion, a standalone one at that for Dishonored 2, meaning it was never meant to be as long, nor as elaborate, nor as complex as that game. It being a Dishonored game however, meant that the game was going to be highly replayable and filled with some incredible levels, enemies, world building, setting, depth, and narrative alike. The game features five levels, all with very unique settings and secrets. There's one that takes you into the base of the Overseers, another that starts you into downtown Karnaca, and one that revolves around robbing a vault, among others. Each level is packed with contracts, secrets, and side missions that add significantly more to the world. I think that, it being a significantly shorter game, made for a more focused game, one that benefited a franchise like these for the characteristics these games tend to have: high replayability, lots of side quests, gameplay and encounter experimentation. You scratch the surface and there's a lot more to the experience inside. I've put around 42 hours on it alone on Steam, mainly because of how many paths, incredible moments, and set pieces there are. It's one of those titles that I think can be replayed -like the previous Dishonored games- numerous times, but, like the more recent Hitman games, this is also a title that demands to be replayed & 100% to truly see its potential, a single, straightforward playthrough won't be enough for you to appreciate what the game is truly trying to do; and sadly that's the way most people play through games nowadays.

Death of the Outsider is a mature and highly polished spin on the core Dishonored formula. It tries new things and mostly succeeds, and it's a must-play for fans of the franchise. While it's nice that it exists as a standalone title, it shouldn't be the first Dishonored game you play.

Death of the Outsider has neither the out-of-this-world level design nor the masterful story writing of Dishonored 2, but it does not fail to impress as it offers a true Dishonored experience and a satisfying closure to the “Kaldwin Era”.

The Dishonored saga comes to an elegant, if not entirely satisfying, end with a spin-off adventure that is almost as good as its full price predecessor.

Death of the Outsider uses a smaller scale to create a game that offers up its rewards quicker but without diminishing their payoff.

Coming into this game with fond memories of the Dishonored series, I was hopeful—but ended up a bit disappointed. The powers are limited to just three, and even Displace, which replaces Blink and Far Reach, doesn’t feel nearly as intuitive or satisfying. It often behaves awkwardly. Overall, it’s a game worth playing once, mostly because it carries the Dishonored name. But honestly, if you skip it, you’re not missing much.

Essentially just an expansion to Dishonored 2. It can be fun just like the other Dishonored titles and fans of the series will probably like it but it's a little egregious how much content and assets are reused from Dishonored 2.

Less than the sum of its parts.... With the series in full swing after two solid games, the decision to expand this DLC into a stand alone release seemed like a decent **** its just not worth your time or the extra price. Everything about D:DOTO seems hugely lackluster compared to the two main titles. The writing is weak, the game play is far less nuanced and choices you got used to in Dishonored 2 have been removed. Now maybe you arent a big Dishonored fan and wont miss the game play from Dishonored 2 because you didnt play it......well, i would definitely tell you to avoid D:DOTO because you will be lost. You are expected to know a lot of background info you could only have gotten from playing Dishonored 1 & 2. Characters that have been subtly fleshed out over the coarse of the franchise suddenly act in ways that seem **** looking at you Mr. Outsider.... The main character, who could have been an interesting protagonist, just wasnt. Overall, its just a far inferior version of Dishonored. It would have been better off being made into a smaller, more focused, less expensive DLC. Save your money and either wait for a super sale, or until the inevitable "Game of the Year" edition Dishonored 2, which includes D:DOTO.
