Destiny 2: Lightfall hits a lot of great notes. The new subclass, Strand, is very cool to use and gives you a lot of new movement options. Neomuna is a true sight to behold and invites players to explore. The most important part of the expansion however is the campaign and even though it has a lot of amazing and cool moments, the story falls short. Lightfall offers up more questions while we should have been getting some answers.

The gap between what Lightfall promised to deliver, and what it has actually provided, is unacceptably wide. There’s plenty to do, but you’ve done most of it before. [Issue#26, p.78]

Lightfall as a whole package falls short of the standard set by The Witch Queen last year. The story is shaky and tangential, and the gameplay changes are few and far between outside of the underwhelming Strand powers. Neomuna isn’t nearly as memorable, and difficulty changes make it more challenging to engage with Destiny’s bread and butter content. Thankfully, overall quality of life improvements and the rock solid bones of the gameplay save the package as a whole. If you’re after more Destiny 2, Lightfall is certainly that, but as the most expensive expansion yet ($100 USD with the annual pass), I expected to have my hair blown back a bit more.

Horrible campaign bad raid bad dungeon misleading marketing DUNGEON KEYS strand was good but everything else wasn't the loot wasn't even good either just skip it nothing is worth your time and the best thing about this expansion was the reprised Crotas end raid that was free I regret my purchase

Used to be fan of this game in early days. Stopped playing for a while and then decided to give it another shot (no pun intended :-) ) with light fall PS Plus monthly. They just deleted everything !!! (w.t.f) All main story is gone. Most expansions gone. Just deleted and replaced by a sort of "flashback playable episode". The final shape ?! I would have to be totally crazy to spend my money on a game that just deletes content that i paid for. Never again. They can release Destiny 3, 4, 5 ... no more money thrown away. If i pay for something i want it.

Worst DLC for Destiny 2. Sony need to take over this mess Bungie have done.

Destiny 2: Lightfall is my favorite entry into Destiny. This is a tall order with how amazing expansions like The Taken King, Forsaken, and The Witch Queen have been. Nevertheless, Lightfall has surpassed my expectations in almost every way. The gameplay is even more fun and fluid, the location is fresh and new, and while the story has holes, I'm excited to learn how Bungie fills them over the following year and on. Lightfall is as fantastic as it is mysterious, and I love every minute.

Lightfall does less with Destiny 2 in a narrative sense than previous expansions, but improves the quality of life considerably.

This game lives up to the hype. The world concept and art are some of the best I've seen in a decade, and the performance optimization is nothing short of miraculous for a startup company founded to make this game. The gameplay is also a well rounded FPS action game that is reliably fun.

Even when you have the best gunplay in the business, sometimes you miss the target: Lightfall is a lackluster expansion, especially the campaign; one of the worst in Destiny's history. But, like the Guardians, Bungie has a great opportunity to stand up and demonstrate that they can it the target again... As they've done a thousand times before.

There is so much we could still cover with this latest expansion, like Buildcrafting 2.0 and the new Guardian Ranks system, both of which aim to streamline the Destiny experience. However, at its core Lightfall is all about its story, setting, and gameplay changes. The campaign and setting largely let us down, with the whole thing feeling like the middle child of the Witch Queen, Ligthtfall, and Final Shape trilogy. However, the vigorous excitement that Destiny 2’s brilliant gameplay elicits greatly elevates the overall Lightfall experience, with some stellar enhancements thanks to Strand subclasses and grapples. It’s irritating to be left in narrative limbo for yet another year, but you’ll still struggle to find a space shooter that is this much fun.

Destiny 2: Lightfall is disjointed in story, but pulls through with its gameplay. Something has to give with the former, as the story needs to be memorable and engaging, and this expansion simply didn’t get there in either category.

Lightfall certainly doesn’t stand up to the fantastic story of “The Witch Queen,” and Strand doesn’t quite meet expectations. But, Neomuna and its inhabitants are fascinating, and the way “Lightfall” handles some of its characters adds a lot of lore and depth to their stories.

Lightfall promises much and delivers very little. Devastatingly, I don’t know what else Destiny 2 really has to offer, apart from wrapping up the story for those who are smart enough to be keeping track. I’ll be there day one for whatever Bungie does next, but I might just, at last, be finished with Destiny 2.

This is the end of the Destiny marathon of reviews and it a disappointment!! Boring at times, characters that were wasted, a story that was an interesting idea but was underwhelming. Sadly the first Destiny 2 expansion after Bungie was acquired by Sony and I’m so sorry Sony, that was not it. I give it a disappointing score of 6 out of 10!

Really poor writing. Abysmal new characters and a real slog of a campaign. Great new environment and the quality of life changes make the game easier to organise and enjoy.

I came back to Destiny to try this since it was on sale and it disappoints tremendously. Any “new” content is just repackaged old ****. The fireteam finder is disabled and I had to grind to higher level than the rewards of the campaign to even finish it. Those suppressor boss fights are so dumb and boring.

The game is at least consistent with Destiny 2 since Forsaken but my issue here is the story. It was made out to be a big climactic start to The Final Shape but it fell flat. It made characters that made me feel like filler characters and it left more questions than answers. The new destination is very nice and the environment is still something that I feel the developers excel at. This expansion is definitely worse than Curse of Osiris in my opinion so don't expect too much going through this.
SummaryThe last stand against Calus--who became the latest disciple of The Witness at the end of Season of the Haunted--and a "pivotal" moment for the Destiny franchise as it heads to the end of the Light and Darkness saga. Lightfall takes place in a new city on Neptune, Neomuna, which has a pristine and retro-futuristic design. As for the fift... Read More
