Really poor writing. Abysmal new characters and a real slog of a campaign. Great new environment and the quality of life changes make the game easier to organise and enjoy.

It's alright. I quite like the new gear system and I'm enjoying my time back in New York. Haven't had to deal with any of the glitches people have spoken about yet either.

A beautifully realised, but utterly boring, case study in how too much emphasis on realism oft comes at the expense of enjoyment. You can only gaze at the vistas so many times before you want the horse to just hurry the f**k up and get there already.

I'm enjoying it and look forward to what it will become with continued support. If you enjoy Fallout games then you won't be too put off with the occasional glitch or bug and if you don't then you were probably never going to buy it anyway.

The new engine works magnificently. Every brawl, location and cut scene looks incredible. And yet the combat, restricted locations and missing cast members leave a lot to be desired. Even the new side story, gang war, only serves as a platform to show off it's NJPW guests.

While there is a copious amount of text to read there are plenty of punchlines to be found and much fun to be had now that the cows have come home. Yes, it is a stick figure game. But it is a funny one.

It's as if the masterminds behind Metroid, Castlevania and Bloodbourne tied an entomologist to a chair, put a gun to thier head, and demanded a refreshing new idea for a charming, yet still challenging, platformer RPG. It's that damn good.

Well **** me sideways. Initially this review was scored at 4 out of 10 and I caned it for being a bloated and underwhelming effort that once promised so much. Fast forward a year and things have changed. The unyielding vastness of the sandbox actually has some real sand to play with and upcoming updates (Atlas' Rising) promises to deliver 30 hours of plot which, even if it does bomb, is better than what was there before. And (!) the looming promise of full multiplayer continues to resurface every few weeks, which says at least something about the developer's wish to find restitution for their shortcomings on release.

I get it. Prior to release I only saw the self punished madness the developer's threw at the trailers and thought this game was nothing more than a show reel. But I get it now. Under all the motion capture and voice layer beats an independent heart. It's an enthralling and oppressive tale of a poisoned mind fighting vivid nightmares for stakes the player only really starts to appreciate when they reach the end game. It paces well, punishes players who are too weak and not dedicated enough to rise to it's puzzles and combat and rewards those who triumph with a genuinely very good little title you can buy at a good price on release.

While the first act more than lives up to it's exciting open world billing the latter stages of the game, with one in particular, become far too tedious. It's a fun little journey, full of campy and somber moments alike, that makes you wish you would never reach your destination.

An ugly mis-step in a franchise I once enjoyed so much. Hideous animation bugs all but ruin any sense of immersion or connection to the plot. For a game that talks so much it rarely has anything interesting to say. And in a galaxy so big it rarely has anything worth finding. The bones of a sci-fi epic melodrama are there, with a curt selection of star crew along for the journey, however this will be remembered as a dour note in Bioware's new space symphony.

Initial opinions: the sync shot makes this came far too easy while playing with AI. But try to do anything else and you can't rely on your AI squad to effectively back you up. Oh well, sit back and poke the Santa Blanca to death is the way to go it seems. Online with friends: pushed the difficulty up a few notches. Toned back the UI and HUD a bit. Resist the temptation to just snipe EVERYTHING and suddenly this game is a lot more enjoyable. It does suffer from broken pacing that the developer tries to sell as 'doing everything at your own time in and order you sea fit' while also allowing you to unlock a by the hour helicopter drop off within the firs six hours of playing. If you resist the crutches like the too reliable AI sync shots and the unlimited number of helicopter call ins you could probably enjoy this game for what it's supposed to be; an immersive and challenging third person shooter.

Homefront: The Revolution

On release Homefront: The Revolution was, in many places, almost unplayable. The result, I have no doubt, of it's exhausted four year development hell. For sale under the £10 mark, including DLC, I found H:TR version 2.0 a lot better than people gave it credit for. The controls were heavy, making nearly every firefight a struggle, and I got caught red handed more than once by a stray KPA patrol while struggling to find the R/C car from my inventory wheel. But slowly, and surely, your protagonist grows into the game. Weapon unlocks and upgrades as well as new and more bold tactics give you the feeling that you are becoming the greatest weapon the resistance has. The KPA too grow, nearly in response, and never did I ever find a way to counter their sheepishly annoying airships. I enjoyed H:TR for nearly 25-30 hours. I've even got a second play through in mind. I know the Co-Operative is also there if ever I find two buddies willing to shell out ten quid with me so doubt my time with Philadelphia is near an end yet.

Plenty of content but at too high of a price considering most of this comes as re-designed environments you have already explored and re-skinned enemies you have already destroyed. Even it's raid, the Wrath of the Machine, which is supposed to be the one true gauntlet of content was allegedly smashed in under two hours. Either it was designed far too shallow or we, as a community, have grown far too accustomed to Destiny and it's time to move on to the sequel. For the completionist it would a tough pill to swallow at £25, everyone else should not consider it until the price falls to the £10-15 or price cut bundle.

The Tomorrow Children

User ScoreGreysteel
Sep 11, 2016
The game clonks along with a sort of jarring formula of under cooked build and survive, married to an under cooked requirement to roam and explore. At first, while everything is shiny and nothing is repetitive, The Tomorrow Children passes as quite a unique little gem ****. That is until you realise there is nothing beyond the first time, nothing new comes to life and you're doomed to repeat one of three routines for all of the rest of eternity. It's cheap, it's cheerful, but without some intervention it's going to die a very quick death.

This time around the conspiracy is a lot less engaging but the action is much more thrilling. The stealth approach less rewarding, probably in effort to try and push players into the arms of Jensen's new augmentations. One of the more impressive aspects of this run out is the choices you're making without fully realising there were alternatives. I find myself looking back, ten hours in, with '20/20' vision and reflecting on the exact moment I made Jensen's life go to s***. So yes; it's a more adventurous game with a lot to explore and yet somehow manages to feel less than the sum of it's parts. Still a very smart game, and now you finally have more than one/two ways of getting rid of your big bad guys.

There's potential here for a much greater game than advertised. However, it's lost behind a lot of issues; namely the fact the game is just not finished. It's like a functional alpha build you would field to game testers rather than something you could actually feel good about selling. My best advice is to ignore it for a year and come back with a few friends to give it a go.

A plat former unlike any you may have played before. Suffers from a few issues of pacing, perhaps even a little long winded in some places, but the class behind it inevitably shines through. Not what you would hope for a sequel but very much the same formula that made Grow Home so enjoyable with a few new mechanics and a newer(ish) environment that give it a very small shot in the arm. If you spent hours on Grow Home you won't lose any sleep on missing out, however if you've yet to experience B.U.D's adventures then this wouldn't be the worst starting point, just the more expensive one.

It was suppose to be a sortie. I little jaunt among the debilitated cars that marked the streets like a kind of headstone for a New York that once was but will maybe never be again. The dark zone is a really depressing place, I though. My squad agreed. We picked through what remained, spared the other players who strayed into our lines of sight and made to the extraction with a really nice haul. We bated our time and waited for the helicopter to fly in and drop our only means of securing our new toys. I waited for the clock to drop and then I stroke. Kicking the only member of our squad that we had picked up at random and robbing his carcass of anything he worked hard to collect. We divided it up, extracted, and then went our separate ways. It still feels like I left some small part of my soul back there, on the snow covered LZ where myself and two friends led our new buddy to the slaughter after spending an hour fattening him up loot. So I put it on youtube with some funny sound effects to make myself feel better, and we went about repeating the process. God, I love this game.

While I can't forgive the retro fitted older brother trope, the writers did go at length to try and make it easy for me. It's never in danger of becoming the most enthralling Uncharted game. It is however, by far, the prettiest and the same by the numbers action adventure gets a much needed shot in the arm with wider vistas that finally allow you to take a look around! The less said about the multiplayer, however, the better. Not the most satisfying we would have wished for Nathan Drake but as the man himself will tell you, it was all about the journey; not the destination. P.S: Long live Crash Bandicoot.
